What We Do
The Coast Guard Spouses Association of Astoria will award one scholarship in the amount of five hundred ($500) dollars for the 2009-2010 school year.
* Scholarship is available to all military dependents, retirees, or reserves currently residing in the CGSAA area. CGSAA honorary members, board members, scholarship committee members, or their families are not eligible for the scholarship.
* CGSAA area is defined as: East to West boundaries: Clatskanie, OR to Hammond, OR. North to South boundaries: Gray�s Harbor, WA to Tillamook, OR.
* Applicant must have proof of enrollment or acceptance to an accredited institution in a degree program or a two or four year course of study at an accredited technical or vocational training school. Online programs at these institutions are also eligible.
* Applicant must have a 2.5 GPA or higher (4.0 scale) from high school or previous college.
The CGSAA will award the scholarship based on the following criteria:
* Completed application form.
* A one-page essay discussing your intended field of study and why you chose that field. Essays are to be typewritten on standard 8 � x 11 paper.
* A one-page essay describing a particular experience, a personal or world event, which has influenced your life. How has your life been changed by this experience and why?
* The scholarship committee will consist of the honorary president and other members selected by the CGSAA board.
* Duties of the committee will be to select a winner based on the criteria above and one alternate in the event that the winner cannot accept the award.
* The applicant that the committee decides to award the scholarship to will be considered final.
* The CGSAA reserve the right to withdraw the scholarship at their discretion.
* The scholarship recipient must show their military ID to the CGSAA treasurer prior to receiving the scholarship money.
* The winner must use the Scholarship during the 2009-2010 academic school year.
* The award is intended for the payment of tuition, books, or enrollment fees.
