Other Rail Corridors

Santa Clara County, California (San Jose/Silicon Valley)

(last modified: Dec. 5, 1996)

This is a list of the other corridors that are either in the works, or have been put on maps at various time.

San Jose - Fremont (part of Measures A and B)
Some sort of San Jose - BART connector, using current tracks and commuter rail type trains. The ballot measure calls for the use of the U.P. ROW (old WP). The BART connection would be at Union City. This might be commute hour only service.

Future Corridors

The following corridors have been laid out, some are just shaded areas on a map, but are not on any current construction plans that I know of. The names of the corridors may not be correct, but does describe them.

Sunnyvale
This was one proposed routing for Tasman, to connect Downtown Sunnyvale with Lockheed. Would serve the Sunnyvale Town Center area.

Hwy 85
This would run down the median of Hwy 85 from the Ohlone-Chynoweth Light Rail station to Stevens Creek Blvd.

Stevens Creek
This would run down Stevens Creek Blvd. from Downtown San Jose to Cupertino.

Cupertino
This would connect the Sunnyvale Corridor with Stevens Creek.

Evergreen-San Jose
This would connect the Eastridge Area with Downtown San Jose. This has some of the best potential for ridership, but will probably be one of the most expensive to build since there is very little vacant land to put it on.

Almaden Valley
This would extend the Almaden Spur line farther out into Almaden Valley.

Santa Teresa
This would extend the Light Rail further south towards Morgan Hill and Gilroy.

North/South
This is aligned approximately with Bowers/Kiely though Santa Clara and San Jose.

Northwest
This would connect Cupertino with Los Altos/Palo Alto. Possibly along Foothill Expwy.

Bailey
This would connect the Santa Teresa corridor with the Almaden Extension along Bailey Rd and McKean.

El Camino
From downtown San Jose to Palo Alto along El Camino Real. They are currently discussing the use of articulated buses on the 22 line which serves this corridor.

Los Gatos - Santa Cruz
Well it appears on some of the maps, but is not very likely since the people at most of the recent meetings about this one have been very vocal against.
