Alot of people have said Kaworu is gay. Others have said he loved Shinji like a brother. And people, like me, have said who really cares! He was just a fictional character in an anime. To settle the debate I analyzed Kaworu in Genesis 0:12
Nagisa Kaworu comes in and hurts his
reputation as he is on a rock with his legs crossed. As if that is not
enough his voice is not exactly the most masculine. He appears to take a great
liking to Shinji though. But in the beginning it appears to be only
friends. He talks to Shinji alot and also runs into Rei Ayanami III. He
and Shinji take a shower together *well not in that sense* Now I know
there is that picture but it DID NOT show up in Genesis 0:12. He was
kind of close to Shinji though. Shinji decides to sleep over at Kaworu's
house because he doesn't want to go home. The two sleep in the same room
*Shinji on the floor* like THEY WERE BROTHERS! Kaworu touches Shinji's
hand. I have heard in Japanese culture this is seen as socially normal
so I won't go into that. Kaworu then comments that he thinks he was born
just to meet Ikari. This can be thought as great friends or lovers. In
any case Shinji really feels awkward and comfortable at the same time.
Shinji is also told by Kaworu he loved him. In the end Shinji did kill
Kaworu because Kaworu didn't wish to see Shinji die so he begged for
death!
