  • Recently I had been discussing the differences between the two programs that were executed during End of Evangelion. For those of you who have no idea what goes on in the two movies, SEELE plans on bringing on the Third Impact in order to bring man to the high level of evolution. In the process half the world would die. This would be brought up about by using EVA-01 and the Spear of Loginus creating the Tree of Life and inducting it. This is called the Human Instrumentality Project.

As you all know, Lillith *formerly thought to be Adam* is in Terminal Dogma. Gendo wishes to execute the Human Completion Project allowing all people to form into one perfect being. No one would die but there would be no individuality. Gendo intended to bring it about by using Rei to bond with Lillith and therefore control Rei and become a literal God.

Now the dilemma is which one is better. Fuyutski said "I would rather live in a world of sin than a world without individuality...." but over half the world would die in a terrible tragedy for a THIRD time. What exactly would happen to mankind if they reached this top level of evolution. It never says what exactly would happen if they achieved their goal. SEELE intended to go by the scenario and finally carry out the end of the Dead Sea Scrolls. As I stated earlier Gendo wished to become God. He thought he could control all of mankind by controlling Rei, but instead failed as good old Rei II showed signs of life in her predecessor and refused Gendo. But mankind now may be able to create their own worlds but no one had individuality.

The question comes to you. Do you think that SEELE's plan of following the Dead Sea Scrolls was right even though it would bring about the death of half of the world? Or do you believe Gendo's plan was better even if he hadn't failed to control Rei and ended up saving everyone from dying (aside from himself because he refused to enter Rei).
