  • Episode #17 "Fourth Children"
It opens with Touji visiting his sister and two nurses comment on how good a brother he is. Misato is now being interrogated by SEELE as to what occurred with Shinji and EVA-01. She answers honestly and suspects that Ritsuko is hiding even more from her than just Adam. When she returns, along with Kozo and Ritsuko, they are shocked to learn that EVA-04 and all of Branch Two of NERV in Nevada has been destroyed from unknown causes. Meanwhile in light of what has just happened, the Americans send EVA-03 to Japan. A fourth child is chosen, Touji Suzahara. Touji is reluctant and he only finally agrees after his sister is promised that his sister will be moved to NERV's medical facilities. He starts to become close to Asuka's friend Hikari.
    Episode #18 "Ambivalence"
The EVA Unit-03 is arriving at Matsushiro Base for opening tests on the machine and the pilot, Touji Suzahara. During the activation, an angel infects Unit-03 and possesses it. The entire time Shinji still has no clue that Touji is the pilot. EVA-03 goes beserk and starts trashing everything in sight. Asuka is the first to try to intercept but fails miserably and is neutralized. Rei is the next to come across Unit-03 but even when she has a clear shot she doesn't take it and she is neutralized as well. Shinji is last and while the angel chokes him Shinji refuses to fight back, knowing that there is a pilot inside. Gendo orders the activation of the dummy plug system. Shinji's nerv connection are cut to the EVA and Shinji watches in horror as the EVA tears apart the angel until it finds the entry plug and crushes it.
    Episode #19 "Introjection"
This was my personal favorite episode. Now I know it is terrible what happens in the episode but if you look at it in a sorta dark way it is drop dead comical. The episode begins with Shinji threatening to destroy NERV with the remaining power he has. He is really angry about what his father did and is screaming at him. Gendo orders them to increase the LCL to critical level and Shinji goes unconscious. Shinji wakes up in a bed next to Touji. Touji had woke up for a moment and wondered what Shinji was doing there. Shinji quits NERV and just as soon as he leaves, yet another angel attacks Tokyo-3. On a side note, when you listen to Shinji speaking with Gendo, you notice the change in his voice makes him sound alot older which is a key point to the REAL story of EVA. This angel doesn't just shoot a beam but a about a dozen crosses (signs of Satchiel, 3rd angel) and destroys 17 layers of armor in one shot. Shinji is in a shelter so Asuka is sent to sniper the angel as it penetrates the GeoFront. The angel comes through and Asuka immediately fires away, continuing for about 30 seconds with no apparent effects. Meanwhile Gendo is fairly nervous with Rei being rejected by EVA-01 as well as the dummy plug which is being reinserted constantly, trying to get accepted. The angel literally tears apart EVA-02, cuting off the arms and the head just after the nerve connection is broken by NERV. The head flying into the shelter Shinji is in(I was ROFTLMAO at this.) Shinji wanders outside to find Kaji watering his stupid mellons while in the background you see bolts of energy being fired at an angel up in the air. Kaji says he'd rather die "...between Misato's mellons..." but tells Shinji that "here is fine to." While with Kaji, Shinji sees a one-armed EVA-00 charge the angel without a rifle and holding an N2 mine. It makes it to the angel and tries to penetrate the AT field but not in time! The N2 blows up with Rei holding it! Kaji reminds Shinji that only he can't do anything himself and only Shinji has the power to pilot EVA. Shinji finally goes to NERV and demands to pilot EVA-01 and goes to the cage. Meanwhile the angel decideds to drop by and say Hello to Misato and NERV command, getting face to face with Katsuragi. Shinji, without a power cable, breaks through a wall and starts fighting it and brings it outside where, like in episode numbers one and two, he gets really pissed off and starts pumbling the angel. Shinji ran out of power just when he was winning (more black humor). Now EVA-01 was lifeless and the left arm is cut off by the angel (wasn't very comical) and Shinji is curses at the EVA to move. The EVA becomes beserk and the sync ratio reaches an astounding 400%. The monster comes to life and rips the angel to shreds to the horror of all the onlookers outside that evacuated NERV HQ.
Episode #20 "Weaving a Story 2: Oral Stage"
Shinji has been absorbed by the LCL and Ritsuko hatches a plan to get Shinji back. Misato is extremely upset about Shinji, and Asuka is in disbelief. This is a key episode because it lets you inside the head of Shinji and what is really going on. Again this is the real plot as demonstrated in the final tape. Shinji learns he pilots it for the admiration of others. When he fights the angels, he is praised. The angels are labeled by enemies by the praisers, therefore he concurs with their analysis. It's also told that Shinji wasn't the first to be absorbed into the EVA, in fact revealing the first time the pilot was lost, hinting at whose soul is in there, Yui Ikari. Close viewing of the episode proves the theory. At the end, the plan failed and the LCL is spilled all over the floor. Misato grabs hold of Shinji's pilot suit and says, "What good is science if it can't save one person's life?" A few seconds later as Misato cries, a naked Shinji forms out of the LCL. Misato goes over to Kaji's afterwards and they finally have sex though nothing is shown. Misato needs the love of others which is continues to progress throughout the series.
