Episode 21

Vice-Commander Fuyutski is kidnapped by Kaji and is taken, not to the SEELE committee, but to SEELE itself. Misato is put in isolation due to her relationship with the traitor. He recalls the past before the second impact where he met Yui Ikari while he was a professor on a prestigious university. He is well-liked amongst faculty and students alike. He also meets Gendo and is forced to bail him out of jail. He later learns that Yui Ikari and Gendo are in a relationship. He finds out about SEELE causing second impact and threatens to go public but Gendo shows him the Geofront and offers him a job. This occurs after Gendo meets Fuyutski on an investigation of the South Pole where Mr. Ikari informs them of the marriage to Yui and how he had left for Tokyo the day of the second impact. Misato is also shown as a young girl, having been the only survivor of the Katsuragi expedition her father lead down to the south pole. While at the Geo-Front, Kozo meets Ritsuko's mother, who devloped the MAGI. We discover Yui was the original genius behind the Evangelion Project. Yui dies in a freak accident and Gendo starts having an affair with Dr. Akagi. Rei, as a toddler, first appears after Gendo brings her to NERV but ends up being strangled by Dr. Akagi, who then commits suicide by jumping from the control center. Gehirn is renamed NERV. Back to present time, Misato is finally let out of isolation and the next scene, we see Kaji in a transport car. He says "Oh hi! You're a little late!" The screen turns black and we hear a shot. Misato hears a message on her machine left by Kaji and begins to uncontrollably sob. Shinji just stays in his room doing nothing.

Episode 22 "Don't Be"

First, we see Asuka as a little girl looking at her mother talking to a doll. Back to present, Asuka's sync ratio is dropping faster and faster. It goes below 12 percent. Misato says it is because of her menstrual cycle but Ritsuko retorrts that shouldn't affect her sync ratio. The fifteenth angel attacks Asuka launches against orders and attempts to destroy with a projitron rifle but fails and is mentally violated by it. Asuka begins to have flashbacks about her past, to which she has shut away in the deepest recesses of her brain. She recalls her mother's suicide after a failed sync test and her swearing she would not cry at the funeral. Rei is sent up to try to destroy it with the rifle that destroyed Ramiel (5th angel) but it fails to penetrate the AT field. Rei is then sent down to Terminal Dogma to take the Spear of Loginus and hurls it at the angel, killing it. Unfortunately the spear cannot be recovered because it creates an orbit in the moon's gravity and objects of that size cannot be recovered.

Episode 23

Misato is listening to Kaji's message over and over again. We then see Asuka threatens *with a note attached to her door* that she will kill anyone who enters. Asuka is at Hikari's house playing a video game *in fact its Second Ompression* Hikari seems worried about Asuka and trys to comfort her, who appears to have nothing left to hold on to. Immediately we see Gendo in front of SEELE. They are extremely furious with the fact they no longer have the Spear of Loginus. They are interrupted by Fuyutski who informs Gendo that the 16th angel has been sited. It looks like a large circle but as we later observe it appears to be a large DNA strand. Rei is sent to intercept the angel but her EVA is infected by it and it begins to make contact with Rei. Rei realizes that she is a clone. Asuka is sent up to try to help Rei but could not sync well enough to move the EVA. Gendo removed the freeze on EVA-01. The angel senses EVA-01 and tries to attack Shinji. Rei, realizing she cared about him, chose to contain the angel within her AT field and self-destruct Unit-00 destroying the angel along with almost all of Tokyo-3. The second Rei dies with it. Misato begins to grieve because everyone she cares about is in pain and she beings to shut herself off from everyone. The entry plug is found and Ritsuko has everything there classified as top secret. Amazingly Rei (the third clone in reality) shows up bandaged and when Shinji confronts her she surprisingly has no clue about what happened. The third Rei is confused and doesn't understand why everything seems familiar but not at the same time. Ritsuko is sent by Gendo to SEELE instead of Rei (Ritsuko not knowing) to be interrogated. After realizing she had been betrayed, Ritsuko decides to show Misato and Shinji what NERV was hiding. First a "graveyard" of failed EVAs.... she tells Shinji he watched his mother die... then she shows them both the true essence of the dummy plug, EVA, and Rei! Ritsuko kills all the clones of Rei. She cries at how she is just like her mother and begs for death.

Episode 24 "Knockin' on Heaven's Door"

Asuka is laying naked in dirty water in a bathtub in an abandoned house somewhere in Tokyo-3. She has nothing left to live for. NERV finds her and takes her back to NERV where she is hospitalized. Shinji is back in his room just wondering about the whole Rei thing and about what his father was doing. Gendo has confronted Ritsuko about her actions. Ritsuko is pissed off about him choosing Rei over her. We learn she was having an affair, like her mother, with him. Shinji is outside looking at the sun set and meets another boy in school clothes... Kaworu Nagisa. The two become friends very quickly. It seems the two have bonded and were, as Kaworu put it, meant for each other. Kaworu also appears to be able to adjust his sync ratio to whatever he wants it. Makoto had informed Misato almost nothing was on file about the fifth child. Misato decides they need to find out how he is able to do sync so well with an EVA not designed for him. Kaworu meets Rei and says "We are the same." Shinji waits for Kaworu and then they go to the showers and then go to Kaworu's house where Shinji sleeps over. Kaworu and Shinji talk and grow close. SEELE is deciding to to stop Gendo. Meanwhile, Gendo is talking to EVA-01 hoping Yui is listening. After Makoto can't find enough about Kaworu Misato goes to Ritsuko where she finds out Kaworu is the last angel. Kaworu decides "it is time!" and takes EVA-02 down to Central Dogma. Shinji is sent to intercept but can't penetrate Kaworu's AT and he's not getting far against EVA-02. Misato tells Makoto if Kaworu reaches Adam to destroy NERV, and apologizes. Makoto replies, "Not at all, I wouldn't mind dieing besides you!" Kaworu proceeds to Adam but realizes it is Lillith and then understands. He asks Shinji to kill him because he feels he has no right to decide man's fate. After a VERY long pause, Shinji crushes him. Misato tries to justify his killing Kaworu, but he in turn tells Misato she is cold.
