Advanced training principles

Intensity is the key to make progressive-resistance training work for you. What is intensity? One kind involves how hard you feel yourself trying. Another kind is the amount of stimulation you are able to deliver to your muscles, causing them to respond and develop. There are many advanced training principles which help you increase intensity in the gym.

Increasing intensity in the beginning is not that difficult. You learn to do more excercises and how to do them correctly, you get stronger and in better condition so you can work harder and longer and put more stress on your muscles. Once your body gets used to this effort, it is hard to increase intensity at the same rate.

Intensity increasing techniques include:

  • The shocking principle
  • Forced reps
  • Partial reps
  • Isolation training
  • Negative reps
  • forced negatives
  • cheating method
  • heavy duty method

The classic benchpress uses shoulders, triceps and pectoral muscles throughout the lift.
