TURTLE'S WESTBANK RESTAURANT GUIDE
Semolina International Pasta Bar
Having worked next to this restaurant for 4 years, one would think that I would stay away from the area.  Not so.  Semolina is a good restaurant.  They have taken pasta to a different level.

This is not your traditional Italian restaurant.  The subtitle is International Pasta Bar and they do feature various different pastas.  Don't expect everything to have red sauce on top of the pasta.

I usually don't order an appetizer here because the entrees are large.  The best 2 are the Baked Feta & Marinara and the Shrimp Napoleon.  The Shrimp Napoleon are shrimp, gouda cheese, and tasso, blended together in a spicy cream sauce between breaded eggplant rounds.  A wonderful way to start.  The best salad to get is the Semolina Ceasar Salad.

There are many different pasta dishes to try.  The Shrimp Roban is shrimp sauteed in a spicy cream sauce, tossed with shell pasta and topped with green onions.  This is a good dish.  They also serve it with Crawfish during the season.  The Pasta Jambalaya is a wonderful dish.  Andouille sausage, chicken and tasso tossed in a Creole sauce, served over tri-color Spirelli and crowned with Gouda and Provolone.  This dish is so good that the restaurant next store has tried to copy it.  The basic Fettuccine Alfredo is good but so many other places make it better.  You can add Chicken or Shrimp to the Alfredo to make it more of a meal.

To expand on their menu, Semolina's has added Pan-Seared entrees.  Here you will find one of the best dishes in the house, Chicken Parmesan. This is 2 breaded, satueed chicken breast, topped with provolone and marinara sauce, on a bed of Fettuccine Alfredo.  This is my favorite.  You can also have the Veal Parmesan.  I stay with the chicken because they don't use the best veal here.  They also have the good Java Pork Chops.  These are 3 marinated chops, pan-seared and peanut-crusted, and served with a spicy vegetable and noodle stir fry.

A popular item for the kids is the Original Macaroni and Cheese cake.  I personally don't care for it, but they serve alot of it.

I have never had room to try and of the desserts here.  And due to a recent discovery of Diabetes, I probably never will.  Your best bets probably would be the Bread Pudding, Tiramisu, and the Cheesecake.

The service is ok.  The restaurant is small and can quickly fill up on busy nights.  They do not take reservations.  So you should try to get there early.

Next time you are in the area, Try Semolina's.  I think you would have a good dinner.
