ANTHROPOLOGY

or my thinking about humankind

It appears that humankind is the crown of, and therefor the reason for the creation...at least in our corner of the cosmos. At the same time, it is apparent that The Godhead is not done with our species yet. Physical evolution appears to be complete, and with the exception of minor changes in height, strength and other such areas, to have been complete for millennia. However, social, intellectual and spiritual evolution have made us into a species that is not the same as what existed just two-thousand years ago. It will continue to make us into something just as different from what we are in the future. It is not yet apparent what we shall become, but I can speculate that the eventual result will allow complete communion, on a spiritual basis, with the Godhead. Even so, this communion will have us inferior to That Godhead. (We must remember that we are the created, not the creator.)

Jesus described our relationship with the Godhead as that of a child with his father. In the first stages of that relationship, the father is the caretaker of the child. The father provides for the child's needs, instructs the child in what that child needs to know in order to survive and even prosper in this world, and disciplines the child to ensure that the child will behave properly. Then, there comes a time when the child is matured and the relationship changes dramatically. The father is no longer the provider because the child has become capable of providing for himself. The father is no longer the teacher because the child takes responsibility for his own learning. And the father is no longer the disciplinarian because the child has become disciplined. Then the father becomes an elder friend, or a mentor.

I believe that the goal of social, intellectual and spiritual evolution is to make us, members of humankind, into creatures that can thrive in that more mature form of relationship with the Godhead.
