COSMOLOGY

or my thinking about the creation

The cosmos, (the physical and most likely spiritual universe), was created...and is in the process of being created by the Godhead...through evolution. This evolution is not a random force that chooses on the basis of ability to survive. Instead, this evolution is the plan of The Godhead. It has an eventual goal. Because The Godhead is in control, this goal will not be thwarted by anything humankind or spirit-kind can do.

Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, a French-Catholic theoligin prominant in the mid-twetyth century, originated the concept of the "Cosmic Christ." He discussed this idea in detail in the book Christianity And Evolution, published in 1969 by Hatcourt Brace Jovanovich. His concept of the Cosmic Christ has the Jesus of history now standing at the apex or culmination of history, drawing the creation to Himself, bringing about perfection through evolution. In fact, according to de Chardin, this has been the function of Christ since the beginning of creation.

Piggybacking on de Chardin, I have to conclude that the attonement, as found in the life, death and ressurection of Christ, was an evolutionary event. It was, and is one of the many means through which the Cosmic Christ perfects the creation. Regardless of how we misunderstand that event, regardless of how we pervert that event with our own limited understandings today, it will still accomplish the purpose of the Godhead. The creation will be perfected, if need be, inspite of us.
