ESCHATOLOGY

or my thinking about the end

It appears that the physical universe was created finite, meaning that it cannot endure forever. It's continued existence is only because The Godhead is personally indwelling it, holding it together by "the power of his hand." However, regardless of whether the physical universe in infinite or finite, this planet, this solar system, and this galaxy are all finite things. If humanity is to survive into eternity, that survival requires that the species either remove itself from this planet, this solar system and eventually this galaxy, or that the species become spiritual beings. My contention is that this spiritualization of the human species is the goal of evolutionary creation as applied by the Godhead, through Christ, to Its creation.

It is also my contention that we individuals who live now, as well as all members of the spiritual entity called the church, past, present and future, will share in that spiritualization. I believe that Paul was right when he said, "we shall all be changed!"

However, I cannot accept the claim that this change will occur through the process described in the Apocalypse (Revelations), or those apocalyptic portions of the rest of the scriptures. These writings seem to be designed to placate the revenge motive, saying: "When you hurt because of persecution, think of what is in store for those who persecute you." This, to me, is the antithesis of Christian attitude.

It appears to me that the completion of our species will be a gradual one, in the same manner as the Godhead has used evolution to gradually make us into what we are now.
