MAGICKAL OIL BLENDS ~ What and How?
Magical oils are mixtures of real essential oils or synthetic scented oils blended into a base of vegetable oil such as almond oil or apricot kernel oil. The scented oils are added drop by drop and diluted with the base oil. They are mixed in small quantities to produce an oil to anoint yourself, or objects with to achieve a magical intent. Tinctures and extracts are produced from the herb itself which is steeped in grain alcohol over a period of days. The alcohol acts as a solvent for the volatile oils in the plant material, drawing them out and absorbing them. The tincture or extract when done contains the essential elements of the plant material and can be used like an oil. When you are experimenting with oil blends it is wise to write down what you are adding and how much of it as you go. Otherwise, you may create the most wonderful, delicious smelling, love oil that works like a charm and not be able to recreate it when you want to make more. If you keep track of what you are trying you will know the exact, replica table steps to make your fabulous creations again, and you will know what sounded good and smelled like crap so you don't have to try that combination again. Keep the recipes in a notebook or in your BOS for later reference. You will need a minimum of equipment to produce oils and tinctures. An assortment of amber or deep blue glass bottles and vials to blend your oils in and store your tinctures and blended oils in to protect them from light. They should be kept in a cool, dry place since heat dissipates the essential oils and excessive moisture clouds the blend. It is necessary to point out here that your blends will eventually go rancid due to their vegetable oil base so make small quantities that you can use up quickly. Do not use any plastic or metal containers in making your oils and tinctures. Plastics absorb scents and will cross contaminate your product and metals can react with the essences. Some glass eyedroppers will be useful for measuring fragrant oils into the oil base and several larger, wide mouth jars such as well cleaned mayonnaise jars for steeping tinctures in will complete your equipment. You will want some labels for your finished product, fancy or plain, depending upon your taste
No matter what type and quality of magical oils you select, I strongly recommend you charge them to increase energy and shape it to best carry out the tasks you want to perform. Handmade magic oils are already loaded with the power of the herbs they contain and many blends are imbued with energy put into them during their creation. But, once you have purchased a premade oil blend, you want to make it yours - as it will be your tool to use in magic. You can charge an oil by censing it with incense. You can also charge the bottle by holding it up to your Third Eye and focusing energy on it through creative visualization. Many oils can be charged through the Elements or by burying in the earth, or by exposing it to starlight, moonlight, or sunlight (remember essential oils break down in light, so a little goes a long way). The use of magic oil is as a lens for focusing your energy, will, or magical intention for a specific task. Scent can work on a much deeper level than words, so by means of scent you can dig into much stronger energies than is often possible by using the words of an incantation. You can get to that part of energy which is beyond language, beyond now. Try wearing the oil either on your skin or on a handkerchief or cotton ball you carry with you. This method can be especially effective, since as you wear it, you will forget about it being there. This should allow you to better tap into your subconscious energy, which can be very powerful. You can also use oil as an aid to focus or guide your energy throughout the day. Again, you won't always be thinking of whatever magical task you want to accomplish, but the scent will be reminding your subconscious and spirit of the work to be done and opening up ways you can accomplish that work and pathways for energy to flow that will help bring that work about
OIL BLENDING
All of these recipes are for the scented oil blend which is to be added to an oil base. If the recipe does not give amounts of each oil you may combine them to suit yourself using 3-12 drops of each. If the recipe is given in parts you may use that number of drops or a multiple of that number if you are making a larger quantity. They assume that you will use a 2 ounce vial for the given quantity of essential oils in order to dilute it properly. If you are using synthetic oils, you do not have to dilute them this much, you can use a 1 dram vial instead. True essential oils are much stronger than synthetic oils are and it takes much less of them to scent the base oil. It is easiest to place the scented oil into the vial as directed and then fill it the rest of the way with the base oil which may be apricot kernel or almond. If desired you may add a 1/4 teaspoon of wheat germ oil and a tiny bit of benzoin to each vial as a preservative

WARNINGS AND GUIDELINES ON USING ESSENTIAL OILS
There are a few guidelines that you must follow before you start to use essential oils, especially if you are pregnant. Some essential oils have ketones in them, which can be quite deadly if used in large doses. So here are a few guidelines so that your aromatherapy use is safe and productive:
- never take essential oils internally useless advised
so by a qualified and certifies Aromatherapy practitioner
- keep essential oils away from your eyes and out of reach of children; if any
splashes into your eyes, rinse out immediately
- do not apply essential oils undiluted too the skin...but lavender and tea tree
can safely be done so
- in baths use only around 6-10 drops of uundiluted oil.... you can use more if
it has been diluted
- woman who are/might be pregnant or are bbreast feeding should avoid the
following oils: cinnamon, basil, juniper, fennel, rosemary, thyme, clary sage,
oregano, clove, nutmeg, bay, pimento, berry, sage, hyssop, wintergreen, and
birch oils
- avoid any citrus oils (especially bergammot) if you are going in the sun within
4 hours of use...the oils increase the skin's sensitivity to the sunlight, thus
increasing the chances of burning
- when blending oils, mix oils of differennt notes...top, middle and base. This
makes a more effected blend than that of a blend made with all similar notes
- tops notes have a more immediate effect on the sense of smell and thus are
more volatile, middle notes are more muted and evaporate less easily, base notes
have a long lasting smell.
I will conclude with saying that essential oils have a
great many positive effects upon our human race (and yours). Aromatherapy
is able to establish harmony and balance in a person as well as restoring your
well being through the body and mind connection. It is advisable to study
(to become) or visit a QUALIFIED professional aromatherapy practitioner when
seeking help.
