~ TAROT MAGICK ~

WHAT IS TAROT and WHERE DID IT ORIGINATE?
A Tarot deck is a set of seventy-eight cards, each featuring different symbolic pictures. A Tarot deck is made up of twenty-two cards called the Major Arcana, and four suits of fourteen cards, the Minor Arcana.  A source of wisdom, deep symbolism and psychological insight, it is the relative of our modern deck of playing cards. The Tarot is a "book" of reality it represent many ways of being. Whenever we truly seek to know the Tarot, we will discover ourselves. In addition to the Tarot's popular use as a tool for divination, it is also a vital tool for personal growth and spiritual development. Again, the Tarot is divided into two parts the Minor Arcana and the Major Arcana. The Minor Arcana represents all the aspects of daily existence. It is divided into four suits the wands, the cups, the swords and the pentacles; these suits correspond to our earth's four elements fire, water, air and earth (see below for further info). The Major Arcana reflects experiences which go beyond mundane reality, and touch upon the mythic. It deals with the universal concepts of spiritual growth: life, death and rebirth. We can use the Major Arcana to chronicle our learning process and illuminate the universal aspects of our own personal journeys. There are three stages on the journey through the Major Arcana. The Fool is the traveler who walks this path.  The first is the physical stage, from the Magician to the Chariot, representing the period from birth into adolescence. The second, the emotional stage, from Strength to Temperance, symbolizes the period from adolescence to adulthood. The final stage, the spiritual stage, moves from the Devil to the World. This is the period from adulthood to maturity and enlightenment..
It has been documented that the Tarot surfaced in Italy between 1440-1550, though theories on the origins of Tarot differ widely. The very first Tarot cards were commissioned by aristocrats and nobility, and were exquisite in their design. Cards were either painted on parchment or on thin sheets of ivory, silver or gold. A Tarot deck can be used for divination, amusement,  inspiration,  meditation, self-improvement, spiritual purposes, card games or as a tool of understanding.  Interpretations are given for each of the Major and Minor Arcana, and the court cards are also explored in detail, with interpretations for both person~ situation ~related aspects of these cards in a reading.  Some people worry that working with the tarot will involve them in occult practices or create conflicts with their religious beliefs. My approach to the cards is simple and natural and is a  wonderful tool for my self-discovery.  I feel that using the Tarot can expand your spiritual awareness in many positive ways.  In the past few years, interest in the tarot has grown tremendously. More and more people are seeking ways to blend inner and outer realities so they can live their lives more creatively.
They have discovered in the tarot a powerful tool for personal growth and insight.

 THE MAJOR ARCANA:

THE FOOL

The Fool is the card of infinite possibilities. The bag on the staff indicates that he has all he need to do or be anything he wants, he has only to stop and unpack. He is on his way to a brand new beginning. But the card carries a little bark of warning as well. Stop daydreaming and fantasizing and watch your step, lest you fall and end up looking the fool. The Fool is carefree and has much future potential. The Fool also represents the complete faith that life is good and worthy of trust. Some might call the Fool too innocent, but his innocence sustains him and brings him joy. He is full of trust, faith, and excitement as he sets out on the adventure that is life. In readings, the Fool can signal a new beginning or change of direction - one that will guide you onto a path of adventure, wonder and personal growth. He also reminds you to keep your faith and trust your natural responses. If you are facing a decision or moment of doubt, the Fool tells you to believe in yourself and follow your heart no matter how crazy or foolish your impulses may seem. All creative endeavors are in the domain of the fool. The Fool can mean a new relationship or a new perspective or fresh start with an established relationship. Fearlessness, imagination, open-mindedness, and an adventurous spirit. Freedom from cares and worries. Ideas, thoughts, and impulses coming from a completely unexpected place. Nonchalance at the threshold of gaining all or losing all. Extravagance and intoxication with life. The pure and undifferentiated power of creation itself, where ultimate knowledge and oblivion are unified. The beginning of it all, a path to follow, no-better-time-than-the-present, the beginning of a journey where you might never find the end, a long haul. This card to me always symbolizes a journey, either physical, mental, or spiritual. Look at the happy-go-lucky guy, off to slay the dragon, not knowing if the dragon will slay him first. It's a card of hope and optimism, untarnished by reality. The Fool signifies one's potential and abilities. Embarking on his journey toward self-knowledge, the Fool is at the same time adventurous and fearful, seemingly open to all possibilities, yet apparently unaware of the dangers along the way.  At the end of his journey the Fool has learned life's lessons and is aware of his place in the world and in one with himself.  The Fool card suggests that you should get out and try something new or spontaneous. You may be surprised to find that you are falling head over heels, are on the brink of something exciting, or that you will have the opportunity to come out of a romantic rut where it 'feels like the first time' all over again. Take ownership of your romantic desires.
Person: A youth, or youthful spirit. He or she may be thoughtless, entering a new phase, striking out on a new path, expanding horizons, starting something new, beginning an adventure, going on a journey, heading into the unknown. Always brings that welcome breath of fresh air. The fool is possibly one who gossips, the person who would always  'spills the beans'.
Keywords: Wisdom of innocence, open to possibilities, journey, quest, originality, annulment of reason, frivolity, lack of discipline, ecstasy, delirium, imagination, madness, beginnings, adventure, over confidence, youthfulness, fun, thoughtlessness, folly, extravagance, immaturity, irrationality, enthusiasm, naiveté. Folly, mania,  intoxication, delirium, frenzy.
Reversed: In the reversed position, The Fool depicts someone who does not think ahead and may take foolish risks. He may also be fearful of stepping out into the unknown. He also may be an uptight, fearful, and anxious person. Negligence, can be a warning to look before you leap! In Love spreads, its reversed position can mean holding back, fear of commitment, or fear of losing one's identity to another. In career/work spreads reversed  include stagnation and unwillingness or fear of taking a risk to get ahead. Absence, distribution, carelessness, apathy, nullity, foolishness, menace, vanity. Irrational impulses, foolishness, and poor judgment are some of the negative aspects of this card.  The Fool card reversed suggests that being blinded by love or desire, you have the potential to fall victim to someone who may treat you carelessly or take you for granted. You could be on the brink of an exciting ride, but your love interest may not be there when the roller coaster comes to an end.

THE MAGICIAN

At #1, the Magician is the male power of creation, creation by willpower and desire. In that ancient sense, it is the ability to make things so just by speaking them aloud. Reflecting this is the fact that the Magician is represented by Mercury. He represents the gift of tongues, a smooth talker, a salesman. Also clever with the slight of hand and a medicine man - either a real doctor or someone trying to sell you snake oil. The 4 suits laid out before him remind us of the 4 aces, which in the Tarot symbolize the raw, undeveloped, undirected power of each suit. When the Magician appears, he lets you know that you have all you need to start creating whatever it is you want: a love life, money, career, solutions, anything. The Magician is a master of special skills and knowledge. He has creative power and possesses the ability to achieve his goals. He is an expert in controlling his environment and manipulating people, places, and things. He possesses skill, intelligence and self-control and is usually very successful. In a reading, the Magician implies that the primal forces of creativity are yours if you can claim your power and act with awareness and concentration. What makes the Magician so powerful? First, he is not afraid to act. He believes in himself and is willing to put that belief on the line. He also knows what he intends to do and why. He doesn't hesitate because he understands his situation exactly. The Magician can focus with single-minded determination. As long as he remembers the divine source of his power, the Magician remains the perfect conduit for miracles. This card is a signal to act and act now, provided you understand exactly what you want and are committed to getting it. Make a change, take a chance, everything you need is within/around you, action follows thought, if you talk the talk: than walk the walk, Just do it. This card to me means I hold the ability to make my dreams and wishes come true. Look at the table with all my choices and potentials just waiting for me to use them. Take charge of your life and make a decision. Right or wrong, now is the time to act. The Magician symbolizes the beginning of something when everything is possible. It can be a start of a new relationship, the birth of a new idea or creative project, or a financial strategy. The Magician is a confident person realizing his full potential by taking positive action and focusing his attention and energies to the task at hand. This includes employing magic.
Person: The Magician manipulates people as well as the elements. Can reflect the tendency of groups to get caught up in the power, charisma, or promises of an individual. The ideal person to convert or persuade or change a difficult situation, but once its done, chances are they are gone. His means support the end, the process, not the goal is all. Can be tremendously supportive or maddeningly competitive. This image will certainly resonate with most Wiccans: preparing and praying, seeking to draw down the power of the Moon to help manifest change in this world. This is a perfect representation of the traditional meaning of this card “as above, so below.”
Keywords: concentration, elemental knowledge, free spirit, determination, skill, initiative, agitation, disgrace, self-reliance, intelligence, inventiveness, self-confidence, resourcefulness, deception, egoism, Skill, diplomacy, address, subtlety; sickness, pain, loss, disaster, snares of enemies; self-confidence, will; the Querent, if male.
Reversed: The Magician is known as the Trickster. He is a compelling character, but also cunning and devious. He may abuse his natural talents or try to control others through manipulation. He may also be a liar and/or a manipulator, an untrustworthy person, or one who seeks to dominate others. Other divinatory meanings include making mistakes, feigned expertise, weakness, and indecision. Magus, mental disease, disgrace, magical (infantile) thinking, powerlessness, disquiet. Trickery, demagoguery, and artful deceptions. The use of knowledge and skill for selfish gain or destructive purposes. The abuse of technology. Incompetence and uncertainty. A lack of will power. A fatal flaw in a great work. On the negative side the Magician represents egotism, treachery, and overconfidence, thereby misleading others into making wrong choices. The Magician card reversed suggests that your ego could get bruised if what started as a passionate affair is revealed as a way to get some action or as part of an agenda to gain material advantage or a position of power. Try not to place too high a priority on the trappings of romance or dating or else you might fall victim to a player who could use pressure and manipulation in order to get what he or she wants. As long as you are aware of the game, enjoy playing it.

THE HIGH PRIESTESS

The High Priestess is the card of knowledge, instinctual, supernatural, secret knowledge. She holds scrolls of arcane information that she might, or might not reveal to you. The moon crown on her head as well as the crescent by her foot indicates her willingness to illuminate what you otherwise might not see, reveal the secrets you need to know in order to make a decision about a problem or a job, an investment, love, career, family, etc.  Behind her is the curtain to the future; the pomegranates that decorate it remind us of Persephone, who was taken down into the land of the dead, ate its fruit, and became the only goddess allowed to travel to and from that strange land. Which indicates that when you get the High Priestess, you're going to be learning some very odd things. Very odd. The High Priestess represents spiritual enlightenment and inner illumination. She is also representative of divine knowledge, wisdom, and the subconscious. Rather than using her abilities to manipulate the universe, as The Magician does, she is one who was a great understanding of the universe, and she uses this knowledge to teach rather than try to control others. The High Priestess generally appears in a spread when you need to listen to and trust your inner voice.  In readings, the High Priestess poses a challenge to you to go deeper - to look beyond the obvious, surface situation to what is hidden and obscure. She also asks you to recall the vastness of your potential and to remember the unlimited possibilities you hold within yourself. The High Priestess can represent a time of waiting and allowing. It is not always necessary to act to achieve your goals. Sometimes they can be realized through a stillness that gives desire a chance to flower within the fullness of time. She can indicate a feeling of certainty even if various aspects of a situation are yet hidden. A pure, exalted and gracious influence. Education, knowledge, wisdom, and esoteric teachings. The forces of nature. Intuition, foresight, and spiritual revelation of the most mysterious and arcane sort. Trust that little voice in your head, think it through, maybe you should wait, patience is a virtue, fools rush in where angels fear to tread, things are not always as they seem. This card is soothing and calming. Slow down, she says, think the matter through, you might be missing something important.   The High Priestess card suggests that a little mystery can be more of a turn-on or attraction than putting it all out there or giving it away. This strategy and the use of body language can go a long way toward satisfying your secret romantic intentions or leaving a good impression. Have faith in your plans, but don't become overly emotional or turn into an ice queen if things don't work out exactly as you expected. Never let 'em see you sweat, and don't make apologies for who you are just to feel valued by others.
Person: Attracts men and woman, but tends to be reserved and unassuming, even cold. She can represent a young, virginal woman or a woman who has control of her sexuality in terms of activity and fertility.
Keywords: Inner wisdom, mystery, hidden knowledge, sound judgment, common sense, serenity, penetration, foresight, self-reliance, quiet assertiveness, Secrets, mystery, the future as yet unrevealed; the woman who interests the Querent, if male; the Querent herself, if female; silence, tenacity; mystery, wisdom, passive-aggressive type.
Reversed: Signifies that you are not listening to your inner voice. You need to take time for yourself for reflection and meditation.  The High Priestess can also signify manipulation, repressed feelings, over-reliance on other's opinions, and excessive need for approval and validation. You need to stop and listen to what your subconscious mind is trying to tell you, your answers lie there. Blocked psychic channels, conceit, surface knowledge.  The High Priestess card reversed suggests that turning on the charm could be part of a romantic strategy, and emotional resolve may crumble in favor of satisfying lust, desire or revenge. The attraction or release may seem sweet at first, but it could backfire, resulting in remorse or anger. Make a conscious effort to see beyond the moment or control your passions, otherwise you may end up feeling dissatisfied. You don't have to be sexual to feel valued.

THE EMPRESS

At #3, The Empress is a creator, be it creation of life, of romance, of art or business. Bursting with the fruit of new life, The Empress symbolizes a strong, creative force at work in your life. She is the archetypal Mother, the symbol of feminine instinct. She has the knowledge to make opposing forces in your life come together to work in harmony toward a common goal. The Empress is a card of good fortune, suggesting protective, nurturing forces, productivity, happiness, harmony, contentment, and material success. She can sometimes indicate a pregnancy or marriage. In readings the Empress can refer to any aspect of Motherhood. She can be an individual mother, but she also goes beyond the specifics of mothering to its essence - the creation of life and its sustenance through loving care and attention. The Empress can also represent lavish abundance of all kinds. She offers a cornucopia of delights, especially those of the senses - food, pleasure and beauty. She can suggest material reward, but only with the understanding that riches go with a generous and open spirit. The Empress asks you to embrace the principle of life and enjoy its bountiful goodness. The essence of femininity and matriarchy. Creativity, productivity, and the foundation of civilization. Initiative and practical actions that promote prosperity, comfort and luxury. Fruitfulness and motherhood. Luxury, lushness, pamper yourself, excess, reveling in the grandness of life, childbirth, reveling in Mother Earth, success beyond the wildest dreams, being sensual, just "winging it". Maybe you need to spend some quality time with Mother Nature or even just yourself.  The Empress card suggests that if you are overly focused on domestic responsibilities or other people's needs, then now is a good time to consider taking the initiative and indulging your prerogative, for you could be ripe for a little romance or passion. As long as your heart is in the right place and your intentions are good, it's okay to accept and enjoy a little goddess worship.
Person: She may be a literal mother or a motherly person (male or female). Believes in her progeny no matter what, always will be supportive and encouraging with loyalty that borders on ferocity, she guards her own. Can be smothering rather than mothering. Can represent unplanned or unexpected pregnancy or planned pregnancy. A tendency to be materialistic can make the Empress exploitative. She indicates wealth, especially wealth gained directly from natural resources. Particularly appealing here is this card shows three generations working together to create abundance. Notice the sculpture in the background, hinting perhaps at the ancient goddess tradition behind the modern Pagans’ practices.
Keywords: Feminine wisdom or power, sensuality, beauty, culture, creation, fertility, new projects, ability to motivate others, practicality, boredom, temptation through early things. Fruitfulness, action, initiative, length of days; the unknown, clandestine; also difficulty, doubt, ignorance.
Reversed: Warns that you are at odds with others and need to listen and cooperate with others in order to make things run more smoothly in your life. indicates stagnation and blocked development. Your creative forces are not being utilized. You may possibly be having money difficulties. In the reversed position, The Empress also indicates powerlessness, selfishness, and ignorance. Also beware of possible problems with a pregnancy.

THE EMPEROR

At #4, The Emperor is the Father archetype. In the best of circumstances, he signifies the leader that everyone wants to follow, sitting on a throne that indicates the solid foundation of an Empire he created, loves and rules with intelligence and enthusiasm. But that throne can also be a trap, a responsibility that has the Emperor feeling restless, bored and discontent. He symbolizes masculine power and control. He commands respect and possesses a great deal of authority. He has the strong desire to create something of lasting value to leave as a legacy, and so is driven toward achievement and success. He is representative of strength, courage, wisdom, compassion, logic and self-control. He uses rational thought and direct action to bring about the worldly success he so desires. He is protector and defender of his family and all that he believes in and will "pick up the sword" to defend that which is his if need be.  In readings, the Emperor can represent an encounter with authority or the assumption of power and control. The Emperor can indicate the need for organization. Loose ends should be tied up, and wayward elements, harnessed. In situations that are already over-controlled, he suggests the confining effect of those constraints. As the regulator, he is often associated with legal matters, disciplinary actions, and officialdom in all its forms. He can also stand for an individual father or archetypal Father in his role as guide, protector and provider. In essence, the Emperor is authority and the determination to mould the world in accordance to the will. Self-discipline and self-imposed rules. Worldly authority and power. Social mastery and oratory. One who is intelligent, experienced, confident and reasonable. A patriarch or primary male influence. The motive force of politics and society. The ability to fulfill plans and use mental control over the emotions. Strength, valor, honor, creating order out of chaos, family honor, lineage, the legal system, rules of conduct, organization. This card tells me to be strong and act with honor. Stick to your principles and make your family proud.  The Emperor card suggests that you have the strength of your convictions. People know you can be counted on to perform or to be reasonable when passions get hot, but you may have issues with accepting the independence of your love interest, particularly when it comes to being the provider or protector. Don't try to force the issue -- be dependable and you can earn respect by being a positive role model.
Person: A dynamic, take-charge person, establishing a family line, setting direction and tone, protecting and defending, guiding growth, bringing security and comfort, offering explanations. Strength and character can lead to a rather harsh or cynical attitude toward those who do not live up to his high principles.
Keywords: Shaping the material world, ruler-ship, will, severity, stability, reason, assurance, authority, worldly power and its danger, force, strength of character, wealth, war-making tendencies, father, husband, weakness of character, corruption. Stability, power, protection, realization; a great person; aid, reason, conviction; also authority and will.
Reversed: Symbolizes powerlessness, impotence, failure, inability to reach one's goals, confusion, scattered energies, lack of self-control, dependency. Confusion to enemies, obstruction, imperious, controlling, or inner law, the dharma, immaturity. Can be a warning of failure if you refuse to act on what you believe to be right. The Emperor card reversed suggests that this Emperor might have issues with performance, dependency, authority or accepting consequences. He may expect others to provide for him, or he'll make unreasonable excuses for his failures or neglect while tending to indulge his passions casually or without commitment or respect for others. Protect yourself, accept these shortcomings, or be prepared to assume responsibility on your own. If you believe you have to be sexual or controlling in order to feel valued, then the absence or rejection of this influence might need to be healed before you can feel secure.

THE HIEROPHANT

At #5, The Hierophant (also known as the High Priest in some decks) in its traditional interpretation represents religious authority, tradition, convention, orthodoxy, mercy, and goodness. In some spreads, The Hierophant can also predict an upcoming marriage. In my own study of the Tarot, the Hierophant has come to me to mean the choice between blindly following organized religion and allowing others to think for me...or choosing to think for myself and find my own soul's path to spiritual enlightenment. In readings, the Hierophant often represents learning with experts or knowledgeable teachers. This card also stands for institutions and their values. The Hierophant is a symbol of the need to conform to rules or fixed situations. His appearance in a reading can show that you are struggling with a force that is not innovative, free-spirited or individual. Groups can be enriching or stifling, depending on circumstances. Sometimes we need to follow a program or embrace tradition, other times, we need to trust ourselves. As mere mortals, we are too conditioned to understand the true nature of things, and we cannot create anything new. We can only speculate, and re-form the materials we have in our realm. Established religion has its place. Not everyone can be a mystic, a hermit or a leader. Some degree of stability is beneficial for most people, and many appreciate the guidance of tradition and dogma. The Hierophant as church ideally protects solitary travelers as well as guiding those who wish to follow a more populated road. Faith in tradition and the old school. A justified and ancient source of power. Being supportive, sympathetic and loyal. Receiving instructions, learning, guidance or inspiration. The ability to hear a higher or inner voice. May also indicate a religious ritual, such as a marriage or an initiation. Knowledge is power, get informed, do not let the wool be pulled over your eyes, how do you define yourself in a group, stick to what you believe unless shown otherwise, loyalty to others, obey the rules but work within the system for change, do not let people use you. To me this card is nothing but education. If you do not educate yourself, how can you know where you are going, who you are and where you might have been?  The Hierophant card suggests that over planning, putting on a show or placing too much emphasis on the conventional trappings of an event is certain to bring about disappointment or contempt for those who don't conform to 'proper' etiquette or ideology. Be sure your priorities are in order, because it's not just about you.
Person: A priest, preacher, teacher, friend, or group of kindred spirits who connects with us in prayer and meditation, or in philosophical or ethical quests. One of the Hierophants more extraordinary qualities is the ability to communicate directly with individuals, even while teaching a large group. A true spiritual teacher, male or female, is a friend. We can see the Hierophant as one who leads us on the path to spiritual realization, or as the path itself.
Keywords: Intellectual leadership, initiation, knowledge, tradition, religion, ritualism, mercy, compassion, captivity to ones own ideas, conformity, religious or spiritual leader, false guru, knowledge that is not backed by experience. Marriage, alliance, captivity, servitude; by another account, mercy and goodness; inspiration; the man to whom the Querent has recourse.

Reversed: Symbolizes taking unorthodox approaches, New Age beliefs, rejection of tradition, and the failure of conventional wisdom. It can also indicate fanaticism or rigid adherence to a set of moral principles. Finally, in the reversed position, The Hierophant can mean servitude, captivity, and slavery. Overbearing, self-righteous, and  weakness. Authoritarianism. Inflexible and dogmatic thinking. A calcified old regime. Bad or incompetent advice. Inability to hear a higher or inner voice, or pretending to hear it for personal gain.  The Hierophant card reversed suggests that you may take issue with conventional or traditional forms of commitment or be affected by the polarization of the same sex marriage debate. Broken vows, going against public or religious ideology or discontent can be a concern at this time if you are feeling patronized, neglected, played or used. Even a casual relationship deserves some respect, but don't get involved with someone for the sake of validation, as this can breed contempt or manipulation. Don't be afraid to take a stand or to go outside established rules or guidelines.

THE LOVERS

The Lovers card often appears in a spread when you are facing a significant, possibly even crucial life decision and must choose between two divergent paths. This card can also signify the overcoming of obstacles to be with the one you love. The Lovers card can also symbolize a new relationship, romantic or true love, commitment, engagement, marriage, or an intense karmic attraction for another. It can also represent friendship. LOVE is a force that makes you choose and decide for reasons you often can't understand; it makes you surrender control to a higher power. And that is what this card is all about. Finding something or someone who is so much a part of yourself, so perfectly attuned to you and you to them, that you cannot, dare not resist. In interpretation, the card indicates that the querent has come across, or will come across a person, career, challenge or thing that they will fall in love with. They will know instinctively that they must have this, even if it means diverging from their chosen path. No matter the difficulties, without it they will never be complete. In readings, Card 6 often refers to a relationship that is based on deep love - the strongest force of all. The relationship may not be sexual, although it often is or could be. More generally, the Lovers can represent the attractive force that draws any two entities together in a relationship - whether people, ideas, events, movements or groups. Card 6 can also stand for tough value choices and the questioning that goes with them. The Lovers can indicate a moral or ethical crossroads - a decision point where you must choose between the high road or the low road. This card can also represent your personal beliefs because to make such a decision you must know where you stand. Following your own path can mean going against those who are urging you in a direction that is wrong for you. A caring and trusting relationship. Beauty and inner harmony. A decision calling for emotional control and faithfulness to spiritual values.  Sex, love, setting boundaries, cuddling, to your own self be true, working out an argument, the end never justifies the means, lover's spat. To me this card means I have to work out something with someone, usually my mate. It also means I have to love myself enough to do the right thing.  The Lovers card suggests that you have the courage to get involved, take a risk, consider a proposal or fall in love again. If you don't put yourself out there, you won't find what you seek. Make a choice to love or forgive. Then consider letting an outside party hook you up with a new prospect or rendezvous. Be aware, however, that giving into passion, temptation or lust could have consequences. Don't bite off more than you can chew.
Person: A mature love relationship, between friends or lovers, is one in which the partners are able to share each other's qualities, without expecting the relationship to solve all problems and fulfill every need. This is not a romantic fantasy, it is the readiness to love and be loved.
Keywords: Choices, union, love, blend of opposites, tantra, understanding of the cosmic dance, harmony, discernment, optimism, beauty, alliance, conflict between sacred and profane, temptation, separation, test or trial. Attraction, love, beauty, trials overcome.
Reversed: Failure, foolish designs. Another account speaks of marriage frustrated and contrarieties of all kinds. The Lovers card represents an unhealthy relationship, conflict, disappointment, unhappiness, poor choices, or the end of a relationship. Self love or hate, apathy. Inner strife, frustration, suspicion, and disagreements in a relationship. Irresponsibility and indecision. Avoiding true intimacy in favor of lust. Unfaithfulness.

THE CHARIOT

The Chariot symbolizes the balancing of opposing or competing forces, good and evil, male and female, yin and yang. Its appearance in a spread often indicates triumph over obstacles, clear purpose, determination, willpower, self-restraint, and control of one's own destiny. Depending on the surrounding cards, it can also indicate the need for balance in your life, even in the upright position. In readings, the Chariot often appears when hard control is or could be in evidence. At its best, hard control is not brutal, but firm and direct. It is backed up by a strong will and great confidence. The Chariot can mean self-control or control of the environment. This card also represents victory. There are many types of wins; the Chariot is of the win-lose type. Your success comes from beating the competition to become number one. Such moments are glorious in the right circumstances. The chariot is unstoppable on its path to change. Victory through might. Advancement through bold action. Change through force. Order established through vigilance. A trying situation mastered by balancing opposing forces against each other. Discipline, individual effort and endurance will turn the tide. Victory, the will to succeed, take no prisoners, see it and achieve it, set a goal, go for the gold, believe in yourself, patience is a virtue, use your head not your heart. This card means success, so long as you work at it. It might take awhile, and lots of training, but you can do it!  The Chariot card suggests that you should find the appropriate arena in which to express yourself or take some action. However, don't assume that your partner or love interest knows where you are coming from or you could find yourself frantically spinning your wheels over the same old issues or putting on a show for attention. Plan ahead and hold your ground if you want a proposition to be well received.
Person: Armor, protection, security and home are important, with a keen sense of privacy, emotionally and physically. Chariot points to one who is a survivor, stick with this person during a shortage. He is most giving and most clinging, playing generosity against possessiveness. Solitude should coexist with friendship. A bout of hard work should be followed by fun; after a long vacation or period of unemployment, work can be welcome.
Keywords:  Victory, action, force, adversity-possibly already overcome, mental and physical balances, conflicting influences, hard work, secure home, resourcefulness, turmoil, hasty decision, emotions nearly our of control, failure, last minute losses, sudden collapse of plans. Succor, providence also war, triumph, presumption, vengeance, trouble.
Reversed: The Chariot card reversed suggests that you may not be getting any action, have hidden conditions or might rely too heavily on a constant parade of players. Before you put any more time or effort into this arena, be certain you are not just trying to get attention or satisfy ego or pride. If you are not on the right track, any victory may be exaggerated or a proposition might not be well received. Symbolizes pressure, imbalance, and lack of direction. You may be pulled in two very different directions and feel a lack of control in your life. You may also have simply taken on too much and have lost power through spreading yourself too thin and scattering your energies. Now is the time to slow down and regroup to gain control over your life and your destiny.  Ineffective use of force. Might turned against the weak or the righteous. Senseless violence and warmongering. Lack of discipline and poor direction fan the flames of a situation already out of control. Advance without consideration of the consequences for others.

JUSTICE

The Justice card symbolizes a divine justice which, unlike man's justice, is strictly impartial, fair, and balanced. It can indicate the need to temper justice with mercy. The Justice card can also mean that you must weigh factors carefully to make a wise and thoughtful decision. It can also symbolize harmony and equilibrium, clear vision, rationality, or legal matters. She appears without the traditional blindfold, her eyes are radiant with the ability to pierce darkness and reveal the truth. In readings, Justice often appears when you are concerned with doing what is right or making sure you receive your due. This card can also appear when you are feeling the impact of a past mistake or good deed. The cause you set in motion at one time is now returning to you as an effect. Sometimes Justice is a signal to do what needs to be done. This is the card that tells the Querent that they can't keep smoking and drinking without consequences to their health. It is the card that advises cutting out waste and insists that the Querent make adjustments, do whatever is necessary to bring things back into balance, physically, emotionally, socially, spiritually. In a more mundane sense, this card may signal a court case, legal documents, adjustments in a marriage or partnership. The outcome of all of these may not be exactly what the Querent wants, but it will be a scrupulously fair outcome. A time comes when responsibilities must be accepted, and accounts settled. The past will continue to haunt you if you do not recognize your mistakes and make amends for them. You will need to weigh matters carefully and perhaps make important decisions about your future course. The achievement of balance and inner harmony after a great trial. Agreements, contracts, or treaties concluded justly. Things set to rights. Karma restored. A turn for the better in legal matters. What goes around comes around, cause = effect, if you did it you have to face the result, you made your bed now lay in it, be responsible, be fair, weigh all the facts, you are accountable for your actions, honesty is the best policy. To me this card is about ethics. Be honest in life and dealings with others. What you do can affect others, so take responsibility for your actions...good or bad.  The Justice card suggests that if you stick to your principles, you can make discriminating, objective choices that can help you balance your expectations for a relationship with the reality of your obligations. Be honest in your own estimation of your position so that you can accept the outcome, pay the price or reevaluate your expectations or convictions.
Person: Charm, good looks, diplomacy. The wish for equilibrium is foremost. Indecision or vacillation may result from the wish to consider all sides of the story.
Keywords: Reasonableness, justice through knowledge of a higher order, balance, harmony, fairness, equity, union of opposites, virtue, honor, kindness, charm, attractive person, just reward, dignity, equilibrium, impartiality, false accusations.
Reversed: Law in all its departments, legal complications, bigotry, bias, excessive severity, disgrace, inner balance or one-sidedness. In its reversed position, Justice can symbolize being judged unfairly (prejudice, bias), inequality, imbalance, an unfair verdict, severity, taking advantage of another, or not getting what's coming to you. The Justice card reversed suggests that there is nothing more romantically isolating than self-righteous indignation, blind trust, demanding proof of love, a victim mentality, jealousy or a desire for vengeance, unless it is the inability to get the connection between your convictions, words or behavior and the natural consequences. You get what you give.

THE HERMIT

In readings, the Hermit often suggests a need for time alone - a period of reflection when distractions are limited. In times of action and high energy, he stands for the still center that must be created for balance. The traditional hermit is a crusty, bearded character who has withdrawn from the company of men to live a life of seclusion and hardship. Card 9 supports this understanding. The Hermit represents the desire to turn away from the getting and spending of society to focus on the inner world. He seeks answers within and knows that they will come only with quiet and solitude.  He can also indicate that withdrawal or retreat is advised for the moment. In addition, the Hermit can represent seeking of all kinds, especially for deeper understanding or the truth of a situation. "Seek, and ye shall find," we have been told, and so the Hermit stands for guidance as well. In regards to people, the Hermit represents a wise, inspirational person, friend, teacher, therapist, someone the Querent usually sees alone, someone the rest of the Querent's friends and family may not know about. This a person who can shine a light on things that were previously mysterious and confusing. They will help the Querent find what it is they are seeking. The Hermit represents the flow of ethics, wisdom, and knowledge from one person to another, and from generation to generation. He is both student and teacher. Looking for answers within, needing to understand. Wanting the truth at all costs, going on a personal quest, desiring a new direction. Going to or being a mentor, accepting or offering wise counsel, learning from or being a guru, turning to/being a trusted teacher, being helped/helping. Withdrawal from events and relationship to introspect and gather strength. Seeking the inner voice or calling upon vision from within. A need of understanding and advice, or a wise man who will offer knowing guidance. Personal experience and thoughtful temperance. Seek and ye shall find, meditate, look within for answers, teachers, quest for the holy grail, solitude, aloneness, introspection, finding yourself. This card tends to make me sit and look within myself for the answer...because I already know it and might not want to face it. It's about the possibility for self change, to be aware that it's not the world that is changing but myself.  The Hermit card suggests that restlessness, jealousy, animosity or discontent may be getting the better of you, and you might tend to retreat or spend more time lost in thought. Use the time wisely for self-discovery. Be open to meaningful experiences and explore a new dimension of your private life. Don't worry what others think for they may not understand, nor is it any of their business. Find yourself, face the truth and you can find romance.
Person: Solitary, studious, disciplined person. Reserved with a somber demeanor, possibly serene or possibly severe. Remains true to his path, not impressed by the fortunes of life and by his own accomplishments. He teaches prudence with material resources and with our bodies and minds. Ah, who hasn’t spent time like this? Reading, studying, analyzing, and finally concluding for yourself the tenets of your faith.

Keywords: Wisdom, solitude, seclusion, discernment, cleverness, self-control, discipline, withdrawal, regression, chastity, conservation, loneliness, prematurely, impotence. Prudence, circumspection; also and especially treason, dissimulation, roguery, corruption.
Reversed: Concealment, disguise, policy, fear, unreasoned caution. isolation, paranoia, or antisocial. In its reversed position, The Hermit can signify excessive isolation, literally becoming a hermit and cutting oneself off too much from human contact. Other possible meanings include paranoia, panic attacks, fear of intimacy, deception, lies, self-reliance, withdrawal, rejecting wise council, and feeling lonely and rejected.  The Hermit card reversed suggests that you may feel insecure. Take extra care that you don't come across as defensive, shut others out or treat those who show concern or interest with hostility, or else you could ignite sentiments such as 'good riddance' or 'they're just jealous.' Lighten up and you might find what you seek, but don't fall victim to someone who may prey on your vulnerability or feelings of isolation or pretend to know what you are going through. You may need to face the truth alone.

WHEEL OF FORTUNE

In readings, the Wheel of Fortune can indicate a vision or realization that strikes with great force. If you've been struggling with a problem or tough situation, this card can signal that you will find the answer if you stand back and view everything from a larger perspective. The Wheel of Fortune is one of the few cards in the major arcana that does not have a human figure as a focal point. This is because its center is above the realm of man - in the higher levels (clouds) where the destinies of all are woven together in the tapestry of life. The tarot recognizes that each person sets his own path in life, but is also subject to the larger cycles that include him. We experience chance events that appear to be accidents although they are part of the great plan. The Wheel of Fortune also represents unexpected encounters and twists of fate. You can't predict surprises; you can only be aware when one is circling around. This card often suggests wheel-like actions - changes in direction, repeating cycles and rapid movement. With Jupiter as its ruling planet, the Wheel of Fortune is all about big things, luck, change, fortune. Almost always good fortune. Almost every definition of this card indicates abundance, happiness, elevation, luck. A change that just happens, and brings with it great joy. When the energy of the Wheel arrives, you will feel life speed up. You are caught in a cyclone that may deposit you anywhere. "Round and round and round she goes, and where she stops, nobody knows." The path of destiny. Karma on a grand scale. An unexpected turn of good fortune. A link in the chain of events. Success, luck, and happiness.  The Wheel card suggests that your relationship or romantic game plan may take an unexpected turn. If you go with the flow, let it run its course and remain flexible, the odds are that you may find something you like, get lucky, break out of negative patterns or cycles or set something new in motion.
Person: Realization of the cosmic order, application of higher laws, dance of energies, healing, changes, cycles, turning point, "as above, so below" luck.
Keywords: Inevitable, lack of control. Increase, abundance, superfluity. inner certainty. Destiny, fortune, success, elevation, luck, felicity.
Reversed: The Wheel of Fortune suggests bad luck, problems, being out of step with your own cycles, bad timing, minor setbacks, a negative twist of fate, misfortune, karmic debt, and a feeling of "what did I do to deserve this?"
Don't worry though...it won't last forever. Don't make any important decisions and steer clear of gambling. An unexpected turn of bad luck. A broken sequence of events. Outside influences for the worse. An inescapable descent due to Fate or Karma. Great changes taking place as a result of earlier actions that cannot be taken back. Misfortune, failure and reluctance to use free will. The Wheel card reversed suggests that second-guessing, interfering or trying to over control your relationship or romantic game plan could result in feelings of disappointment, resentment, jealousy or feeble justifications for being stuck in a negative cycle or being unlucky in love. Remember that if you allow yourself to settle for less than you deserve, that is exactly what you get..

STRENGTH

The Strength card represents inner strength, conviction, assertiveness, overcoming obstacles, moral force, victory, wisdom, self-control, and gentleness. You have the inner strength necessary to overcome obstacles that have been placed on your path. Have faith in yourself, no matter what the situation looks like on the surface, for your position is strong. This is a time of good health, inner confidence, and success for you. The lion on this card is symbolic of an untamable/unconquerable beast, such as drugs or alcohol, an enemy, etc...When the Strength card shows up in your spread, it is showing you that you have the ability to conquer your own beast--that which seems impossible to you. Card 12 will appear in a reading when its qualities are needed. It can be a reminder not to despair or give up. You have the inner strength to endure and triumph. If you are pushing too hard, you need to withdraw for the moment and be patient. If other people or circumstances are driving you crazy, remember the strength that comes with love and forbearance. These will see you through the hardest moments. This card advises you to develop your powers of understanding by listening to your intuition. The obstacles that appear to be impending your progress may be imaginary. Self-awareness breeds confidence and is the best route to success. You have spiritual power on your side, so rid yourself of nebulous worries and take determined action. Raw power. Health and physical fortitude. A surge of tremendous force. Recovery from sickness. Victory after apprehension and fear. The ability to face and overcome opposition brings the inner qualities of strength and forbearance. Delays and setbacks will be overcome. Strength of character, of personality, of wit, of intelligence, hanging in there, slowly but surely, baby steps, kindness, iron hand in velvet glove, not smothering others with yourself. This card tells me to "hang in there baby", you can do it. After all, baby steps can eventually lead you across the world.  The Strength card suggests that you should try to be flexible and receptive. Listen to your instincts and believe there is light at the end of the tunnel and you will be able to persevere, take action or get over it. Be honest with yourself and open to suggestion. Trust in your own ability to demonstrate patience and hang in there; courage, determination and action -- not words -- can help you more effectively influence and deal with the demands of daily life.
Person: Allows feats of physical strength, and it fosters will and charisma. One might be getting in touch with deeper powers, and this can be a source of great joy and of sudden unexpected popularity. Strength also reflects the joy we take in sharing the world with animals, domestic and wild.
Keywords: Energy, creative energy, courage, kindness, wildness, determination to live, strength, courage, resolution, recovery, confidence, mind over matter, weakness, lack of faith, powerlessness
Reversed:  The Strength card reversed suggests that disappointment, fear, emotional extremes or the grind of daily life may be taking its toll on your love life or relationship. You may feel under pressure to take action, but you need to take some time for yourself or seek guidance in order to understand your options, regain control, assess the challenge or get over it. Don't resort to manipulation, confrontation, force or socially unacceptable behaviors. Don't gripe when you can do something about it. The Strength card also represents weakness, sickness, doubt, insecurity, excessive dependency, failure, stress, and feeling physically drained. Your position is not strong at the present. You may need to learn to develop your own inner confidence and strength. You may also need to take better care of yourself -- try to get enough sleep, eat right and exercise to build up your strength. Weakness in the face of obstacles and adversity. Tremendous power released at the wrong moment. Inability to defend oneself. Confusion, and lack of preparedness. Illness, hardship, distress and the failing of physical force. Dominant behavior, abusiveness and a possible loss of reputation.

THE HANGED MAN

The Hanged Man may represent a stage in your journey when you must question the deeper purpose and meaning of your life. You may be feeling that your life has lost direction. This card may signify seeing things from a new and different perspective. It may also indicate a testing period, enlightenment, a unique viewpoint, sacrifice, a crossroads, or reflection. Now is a time to reevaluate your priorities and goals. In readings, the Hanged Man reminds us that the best approach to a problem is not always the most obvious. When we most want to force our will on someone that is when we should release. When we most want to have our own way, that is when we should sacrifice. When we most want to act, that is when we should wait. The irony is that by making these contradictory moves, we find what we are looking for. The Hanged Man, in similar fashion, is a card about suspension, not life or death. This is a time of trial or meditation, selflessness, sacrifice, prophecy. The Querent stops resisting; instead he makes himself vulnerable, sacrifices his position or opposition, and in doing so, gains illumination. Answers that eluded him come clear, solutions to problems are found. He sees the world differently, has almost mystical insights. This card can also imply a time when everything just stands still, a time of rest and reflection before moving on. Things will continue on in a moment, but for now, they float, timeless. It may also signify that the time of confusion and testing is over, and that now is the time to take action and make decisions. Pausing to reflect. Surrendering to an experience. Adjusting to new ideas through sacrifice. Opening oneself to intuition and enhanced awareness. Letting go of past patterns and growing beyond them. Inner peace, faith, and serenity. Sometimes you get the bear and sometimes the bear gets you, accept the inevitable, change your outlook, end the struggle, look at the situation differently, pause your life to just be, rest and recover, one step back but two steps forward. This card tells me to rest from my labor, I'm trying too hard. The Hanged Man card suggests that being a people pleaser can result in the inability to accept or think for yourself. You may even use false flattery or other social deceptions to fit in, get what you want or be accepted. However, making sacrifices for the greater good of your relationship or love life is quite different from thriving on playing the martyr or victim just to get attention. Identify your motive for putting up with what you do or put things in perspective
Person: Overcoming obstacles through devotion, waiting, sacrifice, peace of mind, insight, life in suspension, transition, the changing of life's forces, a still point between dramatic events, the approach of new life forces. unwillingness to make any effort or to give of oneself, false prophecy, playing martyr to manipulate others.
Keywords: Wisdom, circumspection, discernment, trials, sacrifice, intuition, divination, prophecy.
Reversed: Selfishness, aloofness or dissociation. The Hanged Man can represent useless sacrifice, depression, a sense of futility, refusal to break with the past, or playing the martyr role. The Hanged Man card reversed suggests that you may be in denial or need constant flattery. It's time to peel back the emotional layers despite your fear of what they might reveal. Your intuition knows better. When you are ready to accept the truth about what's not working for you, you may find someone with whom you can identify and the reaction could be overwhelmingly encouraging.

DEATH

The Death card symbolizes a major transformation about to take place in your life. An unavoidable event may be about to occur and, whether for good or for bad, things will never be the same again. You must leave the past behind to make way for necessary change in your life. The Death card often appears in a spread when you are facing significant life changing events, such as a divorce, a marriage, inevitable endings, sudden change, death of the old self, leaving home for the first time, relocating, changing jobs, having a baby, or actual death.  In readings, Death often represents an important ending that will initiate great change. Death can also mean you will experience an inexorable force. Death is inevitable, and sometimes there are events that are inescapable as well. When these moments occur, the best approach is to ride your fate and see where it takes you. The bone man with the sickle is also known as Father Time. The Death card indicates this transition from lower to higher to highest. This is a card of humility, and it may indicate the Querent as being brought low, but only so that they can then go higher than they ever have before. A major change or transformation, possibly traumatic and unexpected. Always keep in mind that on this card of darkness there is featured a sunrise as well.  Freedom from the shackles of the past. A new beginning. Death coupled with rebirth, usually related to consciousness and lifestyle. Change, when the door closes a window opens, parting of the ways, to separate, go separate paths, accept the inevitable, get back to the basics, shed you old skin for new, too much of a good thing is too much, reduce recycle reuse. This card always means change for me, usually in my world outlook. It tells me to look around and think outside the box.  The Death card suggests that when love goes wrong, nothing goes right. Whether you are avoiding an inevitable break-up, are in a rut or are simply trying to deny issues that are standing in the way of romantic happiness, you know what this means. You may miss opportunities or even hit all the red lights when you are running late. This could be a sign that something's got to give in order for you to move on to the next chapter in your relationship, or even beyond that. Continued resistance may be futile.
Person: It signals the end of an era; a moment when a door is closing. At such times, there may be sadness and reluctance, but also relief and a sense of completion. Death also suggests getting down to basics. This card reminds you to cut out the unnecessary.
Keywords: Transformation, the end, a boundary reached, transition, passage of time, clearing away the old to make way for the new, determination to turn over a new leaf, unexpected change, loss, familiar situation or friendship ends, separation. End, mortality, destruction, corruption also, for a man, the loss of a benefactor for a woman, many contrarieties; for a maid, failure of marriage projects.
Reversed: Inertia, sleep, lethargy, petrifaction. Suggests that you are resisting necessary changes in your life. You may soon be forced to change, whether you want to or not, through circumstances which are totally out of your control. It can also represent changes for the worse, loss, clinging to the past, being in limbo, fear of change, or stagnation. Hope destroyed or ego death. Stagnation or petrifaction. The refusal to let go of the past. Resistance to change because of fear.  The Death card reversed suggests that the sun may be going down on a relationship, and you may not be ready for the next step. You might be avoiding issues in order to play it safe or maintain the status quo, but tension about losing control or facing the reality may be mounting. The truth is that it doesn't have to go badly; in fact, you may be surprised at the breakthrough or feeling of liberation that could come once you embrace the coming changes with hope.

TEMPERANCE

The Temperance card suggests harmonious balance, a middle course, compromise, or not taking an extreme position. To be temperate is to show moderation and self-restraint. In a world full of enticing indulgences, it is often necessary to find the middle ground. Sensible, maybe, but also a bit boring? The energy of Temperance may seem unexciting on the surface, but it is the calm of a hurricane's eye. All around are swirling winds, but in the center is a still point that brings everything into balance. You may be in the midst of a period of waiting. Also indicates blending and intermingling, cooperation, reconciliation, patience, self-control, harmonious friendship, or a possible marriage. In readings, Temperance can represent a need for moderation, especially when extreme cards are present (such as the Prince). This card can also indicate a need for balance. In conflict situations, Temperance suggests that compromise and cooperation are vital. Look for any opportunity to bring opposing parties together. In fact, to temper can mean to modify by adding a new component. Temperance may be, at first glance, a warning to the Querent to "temper" their behavior, to cut their wine with water. But it may also be a reminder to the Querent that seemingly irreconcilable opposites may not be irreconcilable at all. Belief that fiery red and watery blue cannot be merged may be the only thing standing in the way of blending the two. Change the belief, measure out each with care, and you can create otherworldly violet.  By combining and recombining, we come up with the ideal mixture or solution. Calm and restraint. Self-control, patience and tact in handling situations. The act of applying balanced spiritual and psychic forces to physical life. Harmony, balance, walking a wire, walking on eggshells, finding the middle ground, to flourish, to get your act together, finding your center, compromise. This is such a great card. It's all about balance!   The Temperance card suggests that the timing may be right for sharing your feelings, getting together, creating something new or pouring your heart out, but don't expect a quick fix. This could be the beginning of a creative process of cooperation, diversity, sexual compatibility or testing of the romantic waters, so be prepared to go with the flow or to set new relationship goals that can work for the long term. Patience, trust, compromise and self-control can bring moderate, consistent and stable results as long as you are not afraid to get your feet wet.
Person: Temperance is the card of good health in all areas - physical, mental and emotional. When illness or disease is a concern, Temperance holds out the promise of vitality and well-being. You must realize and trust that things are proceeding on course and will happen in their proper time.
Keywords: Mental equilibrium, the middle way, trials, challenges, learning, improvement, rejuvenation, moderation, temperance, patience, accommodation, bringing people together, matchmaker, management. Economy, moderation, frugality, management, accommodation.
Reversed: Things connected with churches, religions, sects, the priesthood, disunion, incubation or intemperance, unfortunate combinations, competing interests. Lack of restraint and self-control. Losing one's cool. Energies dispersed through conflicts in personal, business, and spiritual matters. Lack of restraint and self-control. Losing one's cool. Energies dispersed through conflicts in personal, business, and spiritual matters.  The Temperance card reversed suggests that extreme emotions could flare up as patience is pushed to the limit, which means built-up frustrations finally seek their release. Once it is all out there, you can regain composure or self-control and work toward a long-term solution or compromise. As long as you don't expect a quick fix, you can recover a balance between the stresses of daily life, personal gratification and romantic desires or relationship goals that may have been taking a back seat to emotional or sexual dysfunctions. Take it one day at a time

THE DEVIL

The Devil card symbolizes bondage, self-imposed limitations, materialism, enslavement, addiction, perversions, unbridled passions, and greed. If this card appears in your spread, you may be feeling trapped in an oppressive situation or relationship, possibly of your own making. It is time to face your fears and inhibitions. Your hopelessness and belief that you are unable to change is stifling your growth. Alternately, self-indulgence may have created a miserable existence for you. You need to step back and take a good look at your life. Are you feeling overburdened by a heavy commitment? Are you refusing to leave a harmful or negative relationship? Are you addicted to drugs, alcohol, or sex? Are you enslaved to your material possessions? The Devil warns against excessive self-indulgences or against using your influence to enslave or manipulate others. Traditionally the Devil stands for evil, but it does not have this rather frightening meaning in a reading. Perhaps the most misunderstood of all the major arcana, the Devil is not really "Satan" at all, but Pan the half-goat nature god and/or Dionysius. These are gods of pleasure and abandon, of wild behavior and unbridled desires. On the flip side, however, the card can be a warning to someone who is too restrained, someone who never allows themselves to get passionate or messy or wild - or ambitious. This, too, is a form of enslavement. As a person, the Devil can stand for a man of money or erotic power, aggressive, controlling, or just persuasive. This is not to say a bad man, but certainly a powerful man who is hard to resist. The important thing is to remind the Querent that any chain is freely worn. In most cases, you are enslaved only because you allow it. This card lets you know that you are caught in an unhealthy, unproductive situation. You may be in the dark about something - ignorant of the truth and its implicatiions. You may be obsessed by a person, idea, substance or pattern that you know is bad for you (or maybe you don't!). Sometimes this card reflects back the negativity that has made you doubt yourself and your future. This card lets us know when they are serious enough to require attention. When you see the Devil, examine your assumptions carefully. Make sure you are not working from a false picture of yourself and the situation. Hold fast to the highest vision of who you are. Being seduced by the material world and physical pleasures. Lust for and obsession with money and power. Living in fear, domination and bondage. Being caged by an overabundance of luxury. Discretion should be used in personal and business matters. A moment on the lips a lifetime on the hips, that one little weakness, holding yourself back, being afraid to take the plunge, staying ignorant, allowing yourself to be used, negative thinking, depression, always preparing for the worst, the glass is half empty and it is only going to break anyway. This card is about overcoming our inner demons and weaknesses. If your life sucks, and you won't fix it, than you only have yourself to blame.  The Devil card suggests that in an effort to satisfy your own longings, you could inadvertently hurt someone else or bring distress to your love life or relationship. Overcompensating for, or attempting to deny repressed personal issues or hang-ups could be blinding you to the consequences. Seeking instant gratification may not bring you any satisfaction, but may be more of a mask to cover past hurt, fear, guilt, secrets or rejection. Don't be a victim.
Person: Those in the 'victim' role must face the problem and the fact that it can't be wished or hoped away. Then one must seek help until one has the strength and resources to break away. Now is the time to find unsupportive friends and guides, reliable people who will not exploit the situation. More often than not, we emerge from our life struggles with new strength and wisdom, and compassion for others who are where we were
Keywords: Victory of materialism, occult powers, slavery, dependence, hidden desires, deception, bondage, passion, malevolence, weird experience, violence, temptation to evil, overcoming one's fears, divorce, overcoming severe handicaps, the beginning of spiritual understanding. Ravage, violence, vehemence, extraordinary efforts, force, fatality; that which is predestined but is not for this reason evil.
Reversed: Evil fatality, weakness, pettiness, shadow projections, the power shadow, evil, blindness. Resistance of temptation. Freedom from bondage. The pursuit of higher goals despite the influence of luxury and pleasure. Release from obsession with money and power. Liberation from fear, weakness and indecision through communion with higher powers or the inner voice.  The Devil card reversed suggests that if you are being affected or influenced by hang-ups or dysfunctions, it may be time to confront them. Take a chance in order to claim control over your own happiness, for wearing a mask or denying what might be interfering with your relationship or love life is not be working for you anymore. This could be a sign that it is time to break free.

THE TOWER

When The Tower appears in your spread, it generally heralds a major trauma, crisis, shock, disappointment, or disruption in your life. This event will come quickly, and without warning, like a bolt from the blue. The Tower is an unsettling card. Fire, lightning, falling on jagged rocks - definitely looks like trouble! Card 16 will not be welcomed by those who dislike change. It represents a sudden, dramatic upheaval or reversal in fortune. With Mars as its ruling planet, the Tower is a card about war, a war between the structures of lies and the lightning flash of truth. When the Querent gets this card, they can expect to be shaken up, to be blinded by a shocking revelation. It sometimes takes that to see a truth that one refuses to see. Or to bring down beliefs that are so well constructed. What's most important to remember is that the tearing down of this structure, however painful, makes room for something new to be built. Usually change is gradual, giving us time to adapt, but sometimes it is quick and explosive. This is the action of the Tower. Change is inevitable, so be prepared. The Tower teaches us that no matter how well laid our plans are, some things are simply out of our control. A single event can forever alter our plans and seemingly dash our hopes and dreams. The false securities we build up around ourselves can easily collapse and disappear. Rather than allow this event to overwhelm or paralyze you, accept the changes, try to learn from them, and plan for the future. Perhaps embracing the change is too much to ask, but try to find the positive in it. In fact, you may feel tremendous release that you have finally been forced in a new direction. You may have a burst of insight about your situation and reach a new level of understanding. This card to me tells me that un upheaval is coming or is occurring in my life. It also can tell me that if I think about it a bit more, I will come up with an answer unexpectedly or from an unexpected source.  The Tower card suggests that your relationship may be in crisis, and this is your wake-up call. You can't go on fooling yourself any longer, and if you don't break up, you will certainly be on a rocky path if you don't work on what affects your very foundation. The impact may be severe, for while you feel secure, something unforeseen, sudden and dramatic may come to dispel your illusions. It may be a catastrophic experience, but you can rebuild this relationship into a better and stronger one if you take drastic measures or pull together to salvage what you can. This is a time where you can see if you have the right stuff. You might be pleasantly surprised to discover your own capacity for resourcefulness, dignity, creativity and generosity.
Person: Clinging to the past will prevent you from accepting the new and wonderful opportunities which lay in store for you. Something's wrong, and you're not responding. How you respond to the Tower's change makes all the difference in how uncomfortable the experience will be. Recognize that the disruption occurred because it was needed.
Keywords: Forced change, catastrophe, endings, breakdown, ruin, fight, destruction, break up of constricting convictions, arrogance, unpleasant or unwelcome person, disappointment, chance for a new start, enthusiasm, complete and sudden change. Misery, distress, indigence, adversity, calamity, disgrace, deception, ruin. It is a card in particular of unforeseen catastrophe.
Reversed: According to one account, the same in a lesser degree also oppression, imprisonment, tyranny. The Tower card reversed suggests that the damage may have already been done. If you are sticking your head in the sand for fear that facing the drama head-on might be ruinous, you might be surprised if the inevitable impact or shock isn't as drastic as you though. The other person might actually be expecting it. If you have built barriers of arrogance or inadequacy, your illusions may be dispelled in a flash. An unexpected moment of comeuppance or surprise could knock you off your pedestal like a bolt out of the blue.

THE STAR

The Star signifies hope, optimism, faith, happiness, illumination, creativity, harmony, improved health, and spiritual growth. The Star is a very positive card. You are on the right path and the foundations that you have laid are very strong. It is likely that you will achieve your goals. Your intuition is on target, and you would be wise to listen to your inner wisdom. In readings, the Star is most welcome when grief and despair have overwhelmed us. In our darkest moments, we need to know that there is hope, that there is light at the end of the tunnel. The Star is the opposite of the Devil who strips us of our faith in the future. The Star holds out the promise that we can eventually find peace of mind. With Aquarius as its ruling sign, The Star is a card that looks to the future. It does not predict any immediate or powerful change, but it does predict hope and healing. This card suggests clarity of vision, spiritual insight. And, most importantly, that unexpected help will be coming, with water to quench the Querent's thirst, with a guiding light to the future. The Star also reminds us to open our heart and release our fears and doubt. It is important to remember that the Star is inspiring, but it is not a card of practical solutions or final answers. When you see Card 17, know that you are on the right track. New hopes and splendid revelations of the future. Insight, inspiration, courage and enlightenment of the spiritual self. Body and mind and converging towards the light at the end of a dark time. To find your center, become relaxed, chill, count your blessings, find your hope again, to believe, think positively, find your answers, open your heart, to be calm in the midst of chaos, be creative. This card tells me I am calm about the situation and that I can be creative in any solutions. This is a card about personal belief and dreams and goals. Feelings of hope. The Star is a symbol of new hope and glad tidings, especially in relation to the future. This card is considered a very good sign when drawn in a Tarot reading, since she brings the energy of good luck, promise, cleansing, healing, and dreams and promises fulfilled. She encourages us to reconnect with the purity of our own inner light, to dare to dream boldly and without fear, to learn to "wish upon a star" and truly believe that our intention will become real in the future. Her message is to be calm, hopeful, self confident, yet humble and you will achieve what you truly believe in and envision for yourself.  The Star card suggests that you shouldn't be afraid to let a little 'diva' shine through. Take an opportunity to embrace some you time. As you contemplate how best to be true to yourself, you may find yourself ready to move past the mere illusion of what was or what could be. The confidence, peace or independence that you exude as a result can brighten romantic prospects or lead to improved intimacy. Your moment is upon you, so grab it while you can.
Person: Use the light of the Star to guide you in your efforts. Your goals and your aspirations are blessed, but to realize them, you must take positive action. You are under divine protection.
Keywords: Hope, beauty, brilliance, clarity, inspiration, revelation, discovery, unconventional person, bright prospects, mixing of the past and present, return of childhood faith brings joy amidst sorry, something valuable which one thought lost is found, insight, astrological influence, generosity, fantasies.
Reversed:  Arrogance, haughtiness, unfulfilled hopes, disappointment, ill health, negative thinking, or missed opportunities, impotence. The Star card reversed suggests that arrogance may be a disguise for embracing empty sacrifices or distorted standards. Leading this imitation of life could cause premature losses or affect intimacy or romantic prospects. Relying on others for your self-worth or holding onto an illusion of what was or might have been could keep you from facing the fear that drains your spark or makes you seemingly unapproachable. Until you are true to yourself you may not find peace, and time is fleeting.

THE MOON

The Moon signifies deep and instinctual forces, intuition, and psychism. You may be experiencing dreams or have a feeling of bewilderment. The Moon shows us that things are not always as they appear. With Pisces as its ruling sign, the Moon is all about visions and illusions, madness, genius and poetry. This is a card that has to do with sleep, and so with both dreams and nightmares. It is a scary card in that it warns that there might be hidden enemies, tricks and falsehoods. But it should also be remembered that this is a card of great creativity, of powerful magic, primal feelings and intuition. The Querent who gets this card should be warned that they may be going through a time of emotional and mental trial. You should avoid drugs or alcohol, as abuse of either will cause irreparable damage. This time however, can also result in great creativity, psychic powers, visions and insight. They can and should trust their intuition. Traditionally, the Moon warns of deceit, lies, dishonesty, confusion, peril, self - deception, and moonlit fantasy. In an otherwise positive spread, the Moon can be read to be an end to a period of confusion, secrets coming to light, and deception being revealed. Now is a good time to listen to your inner voice, dreams, feelings, and hunches.  In readings, this card often stands for fears and anxieties. Card 18 also stands for illusions. It is easy to lose our way in the moonlight. Be careful not to let deceptions and false ideas lead you astray. Sometimes the Moon is a signal that you are lost and wandering aimlessly. You must find your way back to the path and your clarity of purpose. The Moon warns of hidden currents, possibly gossip and intrigue. Suffering from phobias, giving in to the shadow self  lacking courage, being overcome by anxieties. The Moon can also indicate a breakthrough. With sudden insight, a new realm opens. May indicate thoughts of having children or signals menopause. The Moon is the light of this realm - the world of shadow and night. Although this place is awesome, it does not have to be frightening. In the right circumstances, the Moon inspires and enchants. It holds out the promise that all you imagine can be yours. The Moon guides you to the unknown so you can allow the unusual into your life. Cyclic transformation covering the mysterious forces of the night. Feminine beauty and the intoxicating vitality of youth. The metamorphosis from beauty to beast and vice versa. Occult forces, sensitivities and intense dreams. Dangerous situations and perilous times. To be lost in the desert, confusion reigns, fantasy, to use ones imagination, afraid of the dark, putting blinders on, refusing to see the truth, "stars in your eyes", pipe dreams, going the unusual route, freedom to experiment, phobias. This card means I am either deluding myself about a situation or I am going on a creative streak and being myself. Depends strongly on the question.  The Moon card suggests that if you are in the dark and caught up in illusion where love is concerned, then false motives or inconsistencies may be revealed or a choice may need to be made. As a result, you could feel moody or unsettled. If you go with your gut, it might turn out to be a good time for romance or spontaneous acts of passion -- provided they are expressions of your true nature, rather than being created from a need for acceptance.
Person: The individual symbolized by the Moon can be one who is all things to all people. There may be an aura of mystery, illusion, or deception surrounding you. Accepting a false picture, deceiving yourself, having unrealistic ideas, misapprehending the truth, experiencing distortions, chasing after a fantasy.
Keywords: Salvation, mercy, emotions, sensitivity, artistic talent, illusion, the unknown, hidden mental power, to forget oneself, dreams, drugs, e.s.p., intuition, secrets revealed, intrigue. Hidden enemies, danger, calumny, darkness, terror, deception, occult forces, error.  Dissatisfaction, voluntary change. Lying, falsity.
Reversed: Instability, inconstancy, silence, lesser degrees of deception and error. The Moon shows that matters that were once confusing will become more clear to you. You may become aware of slander, lies, or a secret enemy. The Moon card reversed suggests that disappointment over unrealistic expectations about your love life or relationship might lead to outbursts or impulsive, wild behavior. This may further exacerbate the pressure and anxiety that comes with the effort of maintaining control or self-deception. Things may seem clearer in the morning if you listen to your gut. Plug in to the reality of long-repressed pain or emotions and turn them into power.

THE SUN

The Sun is always a positive card. It signifies optimism, success, fulfillment, achievement, prosperity, joy, satisfaction, hope, blessings, energy, happiness, marriage, and pregnancy or children. If you have drawn this card, it is a time to be optimistic ~ things will go your way. It is a time of health and vitality, good luck and fortune. In readings, you will understand Card 19 if you imagine yourself to be a Sun God. You have total confidence in yourself and are  very sure of your power. You have unlimited energy and glow with health. You have a greatness about you and stand out brilliantly. Finding the sense behind the chaos, attaining a new level of insight, having an intellectual breakthrough, getting to the heart of the matter, realizing the truth. A positive card, it promises the Querent their day in the sun. Glory, gain, triumph, pleasure, truth, success. As the moon symbolized inspiration from the unconscious, from dreams, this card symbolizes discoveries made fully consciousness and wide awake. This is science and math, beautifully constructed music, carefully reasoned philosophy. It is a card of intellect, clarity of mind, and feelings of youthful energy. And, yes, the child/children in this card can be taken literally if other cards in the spread seem to suggest it. Your Querent can be informed that a wanted and most welcome babe will soon be on the way. Likely a boy, or twins. Finally, you see and understand all that is happening within your sphere. When you see this card, know that you will be successful at all you undertake. Now is the time to let your light shine.  A time of contentment and freedom from restraints. Creative inspiration. Achievement, success, and warmth. Light and love in personal or business matters. Happiness and faithfulness in a relationship. This card is even better then the chariot. The chariot says you can do it, the Sun says you already did.  The Sun card suggests that my alter ego is the Golden Child, whose superpower for celebration lies in expressing my love, joy and pride. I will be happy today, reflecting on the simple joys in life and my glory days. It's all good! You are in your happy place -- shining brightly for all to see. It may seem too good to be true, but don't worry and enjoy the experience while it lasts.
Person: Balanced, objective person with a strict sense of honor. This person will be passionate but discreet and honest.
Keywords: Light, openness, illumination, understanding, strength, warmth, satisfaction, energy, idealism, passion, education, science, bravery, honor, medicine, contentment, joy, happy marriage, good friend, high spirits, sincerity. Material happiness, fortunate marriage, contentment.
Reversed: The same in a lesser sense. The Sun can signify delayed success, after obstacles, arrogance, narcissism, excessive concerns with external appearances, negativity, failure, pessimism, depression, and ill health. You may have a feeling of being unloved or unappreciated, but your problems are more annoying than overwhelming, and you will eventually get out from under them and achieve the success you are looking for.  The Sun card reversed suggests that you might feel underappreciated or isolated. There may also be confidence or support issues that keep you from fully committing to or enjoying a healthy, vital love life. Keeping up appearances when the fire is almost gone (or for the sake of others) could be more about pride, codependency or ego. You deserve to shine, feel attractive and express your passion, even if it means moving on or getting away.

JUDGMENT

In readings, Card 20 can be a reminder that judgements are necessary. If you are being judged yourself, learn from the process. Take what is of value, correct what needs correcting, but never lose sight of your worth. Card 20 also stands for the feelings that come with salvation. The past and its mistakes are behind you, and you are ready to begin anew. If you are in a low period,  Judgment can show you that renewal is at hand. Abilities that have been hidden come to light. The Judgement card may signify an end of an era, a milestone, growing up, or the ending of one phase of life and the assessment of its worth. You may be experiencing a transition in your life, or a period of cleansing or purification. Sometimes the Judgment card signifies graduation, and moving on to another aspect of your life. Judgement is about rebirth, resurrection. The idea of Judgement day is that the dead rise, their sins are forgiven, and they move onto heaven. The Judgement card is similar, it asks the resurrection to summon the past, forgive it, and let it go. There are wounds from the past that we never let heal, sins we've committed that we refuse to forgive, bad habits we haven't the courage to lose. Judgment advises us to finally face these, recognize that the past is past, and put them to rest, absolutely and irrevocably. This is also a card of healing, quite literally from an accident or illness, as well as a card signaling great transformation, renewal, change. In readings, Card 20 can be a reminder that judgments are necessary; sometimes you must decide. At such moments, it is best to consider the matter carefully and then commit yourself without censure. It may also indicate a legal decision which will go in your favor. You must prepare for a new stage of growth. Be careful when making decisions at this time, as they will be crucial and may altar your life's course. A swift and conclusive decision. The resolution of a matter long unanswered. A change in point of view, most frequently towards greater enlightenment. Final balancing of karma. To choose, making the grade, taking the final and passing, to atone for past mistakes, to forgive yourself and others, becoming reborn, take a stand, absolution, peace with oneself, to see things in a new light. This card means you did it, you solved your problems...for better or worse. You acted on your thoughts and beliefs now rest and recover.  The Judgment card suggests that consequences or rewards of past acts may make themselves known or be resurrected at this time. Depending on your coping skills, shared history or vision, these results could put you in a position to bestow forgiveness or support, answer a call to lead with compassion, give birth to new hope or impart wisdom born of experience. Conversely, you could be on the other end of need and will have to rely on others for guidance, simplification, counsel or relief. Your strength can turn either circumstance into a fresh start.
Person: One is permeated with a delightful feeling of renewal, of rebirth and rejuvenation. The need to consider how ones actions affect others, sense of breaking free of old repressions. Change of position,
Keywords: Breakthrough, reason, acceptance, adjustment, transformation, waking up latent powers, atonement, the need to repent and forgive, promotion, stagnation, legal settlement,  renewal, outcome.
Reversed: Weakness, pusillanimity, simplicity; also deliberation, decision, total loss though lawsuit. Fear of change, delay, or indecision. You may be procrastinating, or wallowing in remorse or regret over some past mistake. You need to stop avoiding necessary growth.  Procrastination and indecision. Disillusionment and the inability bring a matter to conclusion.  The Judgment card reversed suggests that circumstances that may seem out of your control, but that may be connected to the past. Deep feelings of discontent may require you to make a choice to take action on blind faith or bail out. It may not be enough to simply be loving or charitable, hard working, smart or kind. You may need to be strong as well so that you can turn experiences into wisdom and healing that can guide, liberate or offer relief to those who look up to you.

THE WORLD

In readings, it is a very positive sign that you are in a position to realize your heart's desire. What that is for you depends on the situation, but it will always feel great. Remember, though, that Card 21 is a symbol of active contribution and service. To hold the World in our hands, we must give of ourselves to it. That is the source of true happiness. Success and fulfillment, both worldly and spiritual, are indicated by this card. Your efforts are about to be rewarded. You are entering a very positive phase during which you will enjoy the fruits of your labor. You are experienced in worldly matters and you will use your knowledge wisely for your own benefit and that of others. Simply put, this card tells the Querent that the end to a long-term project is in sight, and that it will be accompanied by well-earned praise, celebration and success. With Saturn as its ruling planet, this card can also indicate that the Querent, now an expert in their subject, is likely to become a teacher or sought-after lecturer. And, finally, on a more mundane level, the World card indicates travel, not short business trips, but long, fantastic trips. Maybe a lecture tour, book signing, or just a trip around the world. This is a wonderful card of wholeness, perfection, satisfaction and happiness. As the last card of the Major Arcana, the World represents the end of a journey, the ultimate: enjoy your work, leisure and love. The World signifies the end, fulfillment, culmination, attainment, and reaching a natural conclusion. You have ended one phase, and need to make yourself ready for the start of a new phase, which will bring new circumstances and fresh experiences your way. Sometimes, The World may signify a death from old age after the end of a long and fulfilling life. Experiencing wholeness, bringing parts together, achieving dynamic balance, combining, creating synthesis, joining together, working in unison. Savoring the present, taking pleasure in life, enjoying peace of mind, getting satisfaction, finding contentment, counting your blessings. Let the sunshine in, to rest on your laurels, to work in harmony with yourself and others, achieving balance, to flourish, to prosper, you did it even better than you thought possible, peace of mind, contentment, to give of yourself because you can. This is the happiest card in the deck to me. I made it. I succeeded, I came and fought and was victorious.  The World card suggests that you may have come a long way, baby, in reaching your romantic goals or letting go of the past. Now you could receive further gifts in your love life. Perhaps some family planning or a change in your relationship that can expand your horizons is in the works. Get ready for creative plans for the future. This may be the real deal. You could finally feel complete but it's only the beginning.
Person: You have reached your goal and received your prize. You may feel whole and complete at this time, and have a sense of peace and joy.
Keywords: Completion, fulfillment, success, synthesis of the elements, the cosmic dance, unity, understanding, perfect application of what has been learned, wedding, perfection, rewards of hard work. Assured success, recompense, voyage, route, emigration, flight, change of place.
Reversed: In its reversed position, The World signifies stagnation and unfinished business. You may be frustrated by obstacles or feel that you are stuck in a rut. Possibly you are stubborn, insecure, or unwilling to commit. You may fear the future, or have a problem finishing what you begin. You need to take care of your unfinished business and resolve issues so that you will be able to reach your goal and tie up your loose ends. Do not resist change, it is necessary. Inertia, fixity, stagnation, permanence. Incompleteness and shoddy design. A great work betrayed. Insecurity, fear of change, and the failure to reach goals. Regret and disappointment. The World card reversed suggests that you could be in a romantic rut, not taking care of business, unable or unwilling to expand your horizons, or relying too much on passive fantasy. Because of that, your love life, family planning or relationship could have come to a standstill or begun to feel empty. A new perspective or change of scenery may improve your options or make your communication less inhibited. Patience may be needed if you are inexperienced or have let heartbreak, fear or isolation keep you from going all the way or surrendering to love.

made man or woman. The Wands person triumphs because of his or
her own ability and initiative. Events or situations related to
this suit are those that involve creative innovation and
achievement

ACE OF WANDS
In readings, it shows that a seed of bold enthusiasm has been planted in your life although you may not yet recognize it. When the seed sprouts, it could take almost any form. It might be a creative idea, surge of optimism or need to act boldly. On the outside, it could be an offer, gift, opportunity, encounter or synchronistic event. When you see this Ace, examine your life to see how its potent, confident energy could work for you. Be daring and brave. Sometimes you have to risk to get what you want. Look for the path that will excite you and push you beyond your limits. Seize the initiative, and let your enthusiasm take you to new heights. Wands are the suit of individual power and fulfillment. This Ace tells you that a time of passion is beginning. You will be able to assert your best for all to see. The Ace of Wands is also the card of creativity. Under its influence, you can become a conduit for inspiration and invention. Forget tired, worn-out solutions. You have the chance to be original. Trust your own creative potential, and there will be no end to what you can achieve. The seed of a new venture - perhaps as yet unseen. An opportunity to be met with boldness, vigor, and enthusiasm. The herald of birth, invention, or entrepreneurship. An innate and primal force released. May suggest a surge of vitality, creativity, or fertility that can set things in motion. To express yourself, tackle life's challenges, believe in yourself, be courageous in your convictions.
Keywords: Origin, source, inheritance, self realization, Creativity, career, creative endeavors, religion and philosophy, potency, beginning, invention, enterprise, birth of a child, male fertility, adventure, false start, cancellation

TWO OF WANDS
In readings, the Two of Wands indicates that power is a major issue in the situation. You or someone else has it or wants it. When you see this card, look carefully at your goals and activities to make sure you are using power wisely. Don't support power for its own sake, but enjoy it when it serves your worthwhile purposes. Take this gift and use it to mold your environment in positive ways. The Two of Wands can also stand for an extra dose of daring and inventiveness. When you see this card, trust that the time is right for the bold, creative move that will knock their socks off. Forget subtlety and old, tired approaches. Allow yourself free rein and you'll be amazed at the results. Established power and influence over others. Setting goals and a vision for the future. Coming to grips with the impact of past decisions, considering the current state of affairs, and developing a plan of action. Responsible leadership. Be bold and original, take the initiative, speak your mind, call the shots.  The Two of Wands card suggests that you might believe that you have it all. You may think your influence, sex appeal or charisma is supreme or that you have your target or romantic interest in hand. However, while you are admiring your conquest or attempting to control your situation, you could be missing or daydreaming about something else. You might be keeping your options open, waiting for results, watching out for rivals, or waiting or wishing for someone or something else out there. Perhaps you are hoping an old flame or new spark will show up and fill your emptiness or discontent with domestic life.
Keywords: Dominion, superiority, authority, success by understanding opposites, maturity, even temperament, contradictory events

THREE OF WANDS
In readings, the Three of Wands can tell you to take the long view. Don't react to the heat of the moment, but step back and reconsider. This card asks you to be a visionary - to dream beyond current limitations. It can indicate premonitions or other intuitions about what is to come. When we see far, we have the knowledge to guide others to their best future. Someone who knows the way can show it to those who follow. When you see the Three of Wands, know that now is the time to accept your vision and be confident that you can lead others to it. A leader not only sees far, but he is willing to go there first, if necessary. The Three of Wands is also a card of exploration. Compare this figure to the Fool who is also on a cliff edge. The Fool steps out in innocence, not realizing he is going to fall to his fate. The adventurer on the Three of Wands is also willing to step out, but with full awareness of what he is doing. His courage is more informed, if less spontaneous. The Three of Wands encourages you to move fearlessly into new areas. Let the ships on your horizon take you far out into unknown seas. Personal fortitude and strength of character. Accumulated power set in motion towards a distant goal. The initiation of an enduring partnership based on absolute trust. Honor maintained in a time of desperate struggle. Taking full responsibility for a decision, and bearing the solitude of leadership. Think ahead, plan, lead by example, go where no one has gone before, nothing ventured nothing gained.  The Three of Wands card suggests that romantic illusions may give way to the reality of settling down, marriage or monogamy. You may be dealing with issues surrounding the comfort and security of the family unit, particularly if it is your turn to send your own babies out into the dating world. Leave the proverbial light on for your loved one, for once you stop daydreaming about what you don't have, then intimacy, security or gratitude can return.
Keywords: Virtue, growth, success through self-confidence, dreams come true, manifested will, creativity, activity, joy of discovery, preventing confrontations

FOUR OF WANDS
In readings, the Four of Wands often represents the events and experiences that generate excitement. These vary from person to person, but the stirring feelings are the same. Sometimes such times arrive unexpectedly. The Four of Wands can signal a surprise or spontaneous thrill. Other times this card represents planned celebrations, such as weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, and victory parties. These events have their solemn side, but they are also a chance to feel the joy of living. The Four of Wands often means freedom. Freedom can take many forms, but it always brings with it an exhilarating feeling. When we break the bonds that bind us, whether physical, mental or emotional, we feel triumphant and able to move on to a new period of growth and happiness. If you feel trapped or restricted right now, use the energy of the Four of Wands to launch you into freedom. Do not be afraid to claim what is rightfully yours. Completion. Settlement. Arrangement completed. Perfected work. Rest after labor. Subtlety, cleverness, mirth, beauty, success in completion. Reasoning faculty, conclusions drawn from previous knowledge. Uneasiness, unreliable and unsteady, through over-anxiety and hurriedness of action. Graceful in manner. At times insecure.  The Four of Wands card suggests that you may be celebrating a commitment, consummation or reunion. The two of you are enjoying success, attention, relief or reward at the most fundamental level of your relationship. This is an experience or moment to be shared together, but you may have to also take it public for the benefit or approval of others. Dancing or a coming-out ritual may mark this rite of passage for you and your soul mate.
Keywords: Completion, rise, clarification, peace, joy in life, fiery love exhilaration in physical activity, new prosperity, Freedom, party down, success, congratulations, excitement and thrills, need to ground oneself.

FIVE OF WANDS
The Five of Wands stands for times when your environment seems to be fighting you. The figures on this card are all batting at each other. There is no coordinated effort, no agreement. When this card shows up, be prepared for a bumpy ride. You're going to need extra patience and perseverance to get to the point where you can accomplish something. The Five of Wands does not represent major blockages, just many small, irritating ones. This card also stands for competition. In the right circumstances, competition is useful. It fosters extra effort, generates excitement and encourages the best. You may discover you have rivals who are opposing you or challenging your position. You may feel disheartened (or invigorated!) by the dog-eat-dog environment you find yourself in. An intense struggle motivated purely by the love of competition. A state of seeming chaos driven by endless small disputes and complications. A hotly contested race, debate, game, or other challenge. A stressful situation that brings out the best in the participants. Hassles, trials and tribulations, you have a rival, competition, disagreements.  The Five of Wands card suggests that rivalry, establishing your place, defending your honor and fighting for attention is possible. You and a rival may be on the same level playing field with generally the same experience, ambition, or romantic goal, but ultimately there may be only one person or position at stake. Only one of you will be able to gain the advantage. Right now, however, it is all about the game or the challenge as well as setting and testing boundaries.
Keywords: Strife, violence, war, confrontation, argument, support, concentrated energy push, struggle, labor, complexity, blockade

SIX OF WANDS
In readings, the Six of Wands appears when you have been working hard toward a goal, and success is finally within reach. The recognition you have sought so long is yours. Now you can receive the acclaim, honor and reward that you deserve. If you do not feel close to victory now, know that it is on its way provided you are doing all you can to make it happen. The victory of this card does not have to involve beating someone else. You can triumph over yourself, the environment, or the odds. The Six of Wands also represents a healthy self-esteem. Feeling good about your accomplishments is an important part of success, but too much pride can lead to arrogance and self-inflation. When you see this card, check that you are not feeling superior to others. It is easy to forget that individual achievement is not really individual at all. If your cause is just, use the energy of the Seven of Wands to make a difference. TWO OF CUPS
In readings, the Two of Cups tells you to look for connections in your life, especially those that are one-on-one. Now is not the time to separate or stay apart. It is the time to join with another and work as a partnership. If you are in conflict, look for truce and the chance to forgive and be forgiven. If you are struggling with two choices or tendencies within yourself, seek to reconcile them. Usually, the Two of Cups is welcome in a reading, but it can also sound a note of warning. The energy of Two can be very compelling. If you have ever stood next to two people in love, you know what I'm talking about. They create between themselves a world of their own that can feel exclusionary to outsiders. "Two's company; three's a crowd." Make sure that the tendency to pair off is not creating disharmony in your situation. Harmony of masculine and feminine united. Harmony, pleasure, mirth, subtlety, sometimes folly, dissipation, waste and silly action, according to dignity. The perfect harmony of union, in romance, friendship, or business. The women on the Three of Cups also express joy and high spirits. Such feelings are not limited to groups, but can be especially strong there. Celebrations spontaneously arise when people feel connected, loved and secure. The Three of Cups can stand for a mood or experience that makes you feel like dancing and singing. A time of merriment and reflection spent in the company of friends and loved ones. The conclusion of a matter in plenty and perfection. The strength of a diverse community being brought together. May suggest a celebration, festival, anniversary, wedding, baby shower, or other joyous gathering. Being a good neighbor, on top of the world, friendship, being part of a community, to celebrate.  The Three of Cups card suggests that you've worked hard to attain some level of success in your pursuit of happiness and love, but there will always be more to achieve. Take some time off to acknowledge your current success. Give yourself a pat on the back, spend time with your friends, commune over drinks or shake your groove thing without fear of being judged. Celebrate who and where you are right now without becoming bogged down by the end result of your search for love. Find reason to be joyful and grateful along the way. Revel in the pleasure and companionship of your peers, and indulge in the support of group empowerment without trying to make a love connection. You might find that you not only light up the room, but exude beauty, courage and confidence that make you more attractive and receptive to romance.

FOUR OF CUPS
In readings, the Four of Cups can indicate that you are wrapped up for the moment in your own world. In some situations, you must focus on yourself. When life is too stressful, you need to devote time and energy to yourself or you will feel swamped. The Four of Cups can represent a positive period of self-reflection and renewal. By taking the time to go within to dream, muse and reflect, you restore your emotional balance. The Four of Cups is sometimes a sign of apathy. You don't really care much about anything. Your life seems stale and flat because you've lost interest in the activities that used to bring you pleasure. You're not motivated to make much of an effort in any direction. At such times, the Four of Cups can show that you're stuck emotionally. You need something to focus on that will so engage your mind and heart that your path down river becomes clear again. Open yourself to your surroundings. Soon you will be on your way again. Being surrounded by love and devotion but taking it for granted. Ignoring the real and longing for the indefinable. Apathy and disengagement from the world. Dissatisfaction with the condition and direction of affairs, but the inability to accept new opportunities. To dream, meditate, not see the whole picture, self absorption, apathy, the world revolves around you, lost in daydreams.  The Four of Cups card suggests that a gift of love and support may be offered to you by a compassionate, committed or reliable source willing to go out on a limb just when you feel like no one cares. If you are too wrapped up in your perceived problems, you might not recognize the attempt at outreach and miss the opportunity that could lead to romantic renewal. Don't focus too much on what you don't have, or you could become resentful or condescending of the happiness and passion of others.
Keywords: Weariness, uncertainty, refusal, aversion, disgust, disappointment, stationary period in life, new possibilities, insight, new relationships or approaches to old problems

FIVE OF CUPS
In readings, the Five of Cups can alert you to the possibility of a loss and its associated emotions - sorrow, regret, denial. The loss could be great or small. It could be tangible (money, possession, relationship, work), or intangible (dream, opportunity, prospect, reputation). You may already know what this card represents, if not, use it as a warning to help you avoid a loss, or at least reduce its toll. You may feel discouraged by this card, but it does have a positive side. Every loss opens new possibilities for growth because every loss initiates change. Loss hurts because it is our emotional resistance to change. No matter how much we accept intellectually that we must go with the flow, if that flow separates us from what we love, our feelings say, "No!" Suffering a loss and wishing for what might have been. Being crippled by sadness, grief, and vain regret. Indecision brought on by the feeling that you made the wrong choice. Ignoring what you still have. May suggest a broken relationship or tragedy. May also suggest a gift, inheritance, opportunity, partnership, or marriage, but one that falls below expectations. Defeat, regret, end of a relationship, grief, loss of hope, end of an era.  The Five of Cups card suggests that an element of suffering could be difficult to handle regardless of your ability to walk away from an unhealthy situation. Denial may be worn like a cloak to hide a fear of intimacy or feelings of vulnerability. Face unresolved issues, loss and emotional baggage. A sobering change, failure or good-bye may be inevitable, but you have reason to be grateful as well as disappointed. Taking a chance and confronting the issue could create an opportunity for reconciliation, commitment, marriage or support that has been waiting in the wings. The situation may actually strengthen the bonds in an existing relationship when a devoted partner or reliable alliance stands by your side throughout the ordeal. When you least expect it, you could find yourself happy again. Trust your heart and open yourself to forgiveness and romance.
Keywords: Remorse, regret, marriage of convenience, inheritance, hopeful outlook, return of an old friend, reunion, discovery of inner resources

These are all possibilities that can apply to the Six of Cups, depending on the situation. Notice that the two figures on the Six of Cups appear to be children. Often this card represents a baby or young child. In a larger sense, it embraces all of childhood and the feelings we associate with youth - being carefree, playful, secure and loved. Children are our treasure, and the sweetness of the Six of Cups is a quality to be treasured as well. Opening your heart to the simple pleasures of life. Fond memories fuel the playful embrace of love and life. Experiencing the joy of youth and sexual innocence. Engaging in acts of gentle kindness. Harmony of natural forces without effort or strain. Meeting an old friend. Childhood, innocence, simple joys, birth, good deeds, happiness, care-free.  The Six of Cups card suggests that if left to your own devices, you will continue to build up a shield of romantic defenses over time. Unresolved emotional issues could now be influencing the romantic choices or the roles you play in your relationship. Watch for a tendency to idealize or cling to past illusions or to allow your desires to be suppressed, belittled or patronized, all in the name of love. Before you fall for it again, know your own motives and limits.
Keywords: Effortless harmony, joy, satisfaction, nice memories, recovered joy, fantasies, infatuation, culture of romance, renewal, chance, remembrance, longing, uncontrolled emotions

SEVEN OF CUPS
Letting everything go is what the Seven of Cups is all about. It is easy to worship the gods of efficiency and neatness - the world of the Emperor. We admire order in all its forms and want everything to be just right. The Seven of Cups provides the balance. This card stands for all that is sloppy, impractical and lax. When the Seven of Cups appears in a reading, it is important to look carefully at how disordered your situation is. Is everything too controlled? Perhaps you need to let things fall apart a little. When a rigid system breaks up, there can be a tremendous release of creativity. The man on the Seven of Cups is amazed by all the options he has. On the other hand, if you are in a chaotic situation, some tightening may be necessary. No one is happy and productive in a crazy environment. Regularity gives structure to life. Taken to an extreme, the looseness of the Seven of Cups can lead to harmful patterns of decadence, addiction and self-indulgence. Sometimes the laziness applies to your thoughts and dreams. It is easy to wish for something, but not so easy to make that wish come true. When you see this card, make sure that you are backing up your plans with work and effort. Tighten up your life and commit yourself to doing what it takes to reach your goals. Procrastinating, too many choices, letting your imagination run away with yourself, not dealing in reality, addictions, laziness, gluttony, building castles in the clouds, pick and choose.  The Seven of Cups card suggests that when you envision your own potential, you should set your sights high, but be reasonable. Keeping your head out of the clouds (especially with romantic matters) can't be emphasized too strongly, otherwise your thinking may reflect an elusive Harlequin romance-type standard for happiness, passion and love. You might be operating under the deception that if you were thin enough, beautiful enough or rich enough, then your romantic dreams could come true. One of the key differences between what you have now and that which you may long for may be self-esteem. Ultimately, altering your perceptions and priorities away from unfulfilled illusions to what has authentic value enables you to better identify or connect with what you really want leading you to no longer dream it, but to be it.
Keywords: Illusion, imagination, daydreams, wishful thinking, disillusionment, delusions, illusory success, hopes and fears, dream work, productive power of fantasy

EIGHT OF CUPS
The Eight of Cups stands for those moments when we realize, once and for all, that the past is gone. What was true is no longer true. The signs of change are in our face, and we must accept them. It is time to move on. Moving on can mean a physical change such as leaving a job, location or relationship. It can also mean an inner change - releasing old patterns, especially those that have dominated our thoughts and emotions. On the Eight of Cups, we see a man leaving on a journey. He has turned away from his old feelings to strike out on a new path. Sometimes moving on can mean searching for a deeper truth or reality. One day we wake up and realize that we have been asleep in our own lives - living a dream that no longer satisfies. Some changes can be wearying. Endings are not always easy. One of the signs of a readiness to leave is lack of energy. When you feel tired and dispirited, you know that something is wrong, and it's time for a new direction. Reexamine your life and your priorities. You will find where in your life you need to move on. Losing interest in a matter deeply important to you. Being forced to abandon something in which you had invested great love and devotion. Seeking earthly, physical pleasures, to the exclusion of spiritual growth and emotional fulfillment. Emotional withdrawal and lethargy. Spiritual journey, looking for facts, letting go, losing hope, becoming burned out, time to move on.  The Eight of Cups card suggests that the need for personal transformation and fulfillment could alter your love life. As difficult as the choice may be to confront your fears and step away from your comfort zone, the change could be an inevitable step toward finding personal truth and creating happiness. Otherwise you could get lost in excuses, denial or wishful thinking, or rely on outside sources for distractions, security and pleasure. If you make changes willingly, this experience could find you prioritizing. Afterward, you'll be stronger and wiser. Once you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
Keywords: Resignation, giving up, discouragement, disappointment, abandonment of plans, lack of self esteem, modesty, interruption, regrouping, seeking new support, new point of view.

You may be tempted to indulge yourself at the cost of someone else. Pursuit of pleasure without regard to consequences is never satisfying in the long run. In many tarot traditions, the Nine of Cups is known as the Wish Card. It shows your wish will come true. A wonderful prospect, but remember your fairy tale lessons. You must be sure you know what you really want and accept the responsibilities that go with your wish. If that is the case, then enjoy your good fortune!  Contentment and satisfaction in romance, friendship, or other relationships. Achieving your deepest desires and savoring beauty and sensual pleasures. A state of joy and abundance radiating fulfillment and bliss. All your dreams come true, all's well that ends well, making love, basking in the glow, sensual pleasures, contentment.  The Nine of Cups card suggests that to the world you've got it going on. You may be in an enviable position of seeming to have the perfect domestic life. Beware, however, of a tendency to flaunt your romantic success or pride over others or your partner -- you don't want that to be the only way you get to feel validated, acknowledged, powerful and important. Lording it over others could make an opportunity to experience true satisfaction into little more than a photo op. Also, watch out for a tendency to grab the spotlight or indulge in compulsive behavior. These enticements could be substitutes for genuine sensual pleasures and intimacy or be a cover for hidden fears. Recognize what is really going on around you.

Perhaps the most important lesson to be gleaned from this sense of fulfillment is to simply enjoy being in the moment. Honor and recognize your inner child through spontaneous and passionate expressions. You know that home, happiness and family are where the heart is. This sense of pride and joy may come from a focus on common values, a romantic desire sated or a dream achieved. Either way, you have an opportunity to share the love, express gratitude, expand your relationship and appreciate the stormy road that might have led to this renewal and wholeness.

KNIGHT ~PRINCE OF CUPS
In readings, a Prince of Cups shows that his sensitive style is involved in the situation as an aspect of you, someone else or the atmosphere in general. You need to ask yourself, "Is this Prince's energy helping or hurting?" If his style is evident, then balance is needed. Are your feelings appropriate or excessive? Are your daydreams unrealistic? Is someone's moodiness driving you crazy?  It may be time for a change. If this Prince's energy is missing, a dose of poetry may be called for. Are you too restrained? Express your feelings. Do you always make the most practical choice? Go for the extravagant one instead. Take some time to look within and think about your life. Let the Prince of Cups introduce you to his world of romance and beauty. A young man with brown hair, grey or brown eyes. He is subtle, violent, crafty and artistic. A fierce nature with a calm exterior. Powerful for good or evil, but more attracted by the evil, if allied with apparent power or wisdom. If ill-dignified, he is intensely evil and merciless. The essence of water behaving as fire, such as a rushing river: A passionate romantic, full of charm and beauty, but prone to extremes. Forceful idealism blended with gentle kindness. An eager and intense person, forward with their emotions and tender in their support of others. Puts love on a pedestal then kicks the pedestal, lives in imagination despite reality, the pauper playing the prince.  The Knight of Cups card suggests that you may be motivated to act by an emotional connection, true love or a desire to live up to a romantic ideal. Your intentions, while honorable, could lead to disappointment or leave you vulnerable, for following your heart might cause you to be unreasonable in your expectations for others. There is a price to pay for living a fairy tale, but if you have confidence in your identity, you can bring romance into your relationship or love life without needing to be rescued.

ACE OF SWORDS
In readings, it shows that a seed of clear understanding has been planted in your life although you may not yet recognize it. When the seed sprouts, it could take almost any form. It might be a compelling idea, desire for the truth, call to justice, or a need to be honest. On the outside, it could be an offer, gift, opportunity, encounter or synchronistic event. Sometimes this Ace stands for a challenge that will test you in some way. Life never goes smoothly for long. Sooner or later a hurdle shows up, and the Ace of Swords can tell you when one is coming. This card is also a reminder to you to face your challenge, whatever it is, with courage, honesty and a firm resolve. In every challenge, there is opportunity. When you see the Ace of Swords, examine your life to see how its clean, sharp energy could work for you. Think about your problem objectively. Look for situations that are unjust or confusing and resolve to set them right. Above all else, commit to being honest and ethical. This card tells you that you do have the inner resources to overcome all obstacles and find the truth of your situation. That is the promise of the Ace of Swords. To seek truth and justice, overcoming adversity, to persevere, might does not equal right, being fair, dispelling fantasy, honesty, resolve an issue.  The Ace of Swords card suggests that you should stand up for yourself. Stick to the point, make yourself clear and compare your options objectively before answering or committing to take the next logical step. Understand or identify the cause. You get what you want by trusting your own personal convictions and inner voice. A strategy of asserting your independence, directing the questioning or getting right to the point could make you seem impersonal, indifferent or even bossy, especially if communications are related to romance or happen via cell phone or online. Sometimes you have to cut through the bull while protecting your privacy before you can establish trust or let down your guard. This is only reasonable. Keep your wits about you.
Keywords: Power, triumph, conquest, mental power, great determination, an issue with many sides, passion, fertility, championship, debacle, tyranny, disaster, self-destruction

TWO OF SWORDS
In readings, the Two of Swords often appears when you are not willing to accept some truth about yourself or the situation. What are you really feeling? Are you resisting positive feelings because you might be hurt? Are you furious even though you're smiling? What are you refusing to look at? Notice the blindfold on this woman. She can't look at the truth or even acknowledge that there is trouble. The most common barrier is a closed heart. When we cut ourselves off emotionally, we sever the connection that allows our love to flow outward. Sometimes this action is necessary, but it always comes at a great price. Every time we close off our heart, we find it more difficult to open again. Another barrier between people is a deadlocked situation. When two parties are set in their positions - cut off from each other - there is a stalemate. To break it, the "opponents" must come out from behind their swords and listen to each other. The lesson of the Two of Swords is that barriers are not the answer. We must stay open if we are to find peace and wholeness. Refusing to do something, closing your eyes to what's going on, blocked emotions, avoiding the truth, being defensive.  The Two of Swords card suggests that not only is love blind, but once bitten, twice shy. Take precautions and protect your interests. Be aware that keeping score, emotional detachment, hiding your feelings or keeping secrets may not bring understanding, it might only put you on the defensive or create a romantic impasse. If you are turning a blind eye to what is going on around you in an effort to avoid emotional involvement, the resulting tension might impede your ability to move forward in your love life or relationship. Keep conduct or communications aboveboard to establish respect and boundaries.
Keywords: balance through understanding, peace, calm, familiarity, harmony, offsetting factors, stalemate, lies

THREE OF SWORDS
In readings, the Three of Swords often represents the nasty little curve balls that life can throw sometimes. Betrayal, abandonment, rejection, separation, a reversal of fortune. These hurts are painful because they hit you when you least expect them. If you have drawn this card, you may know what it refers to, but if not, the Three of Swords is a valuable warning. It is likely there is something amiss in your life that you are unaware of or unwilling to acknowledge. Examine your situation carefully. Talk to the people in your life. Don't take anything for granted. Listen to your inner voice; it will help you locate the problem. It is also possible that you are contemplating hurting someone else. With this card I think it is important to remember that each of us is capable of cruelty. We're all human, and we all make mistakes, sometimes serious ones. In the end, all we can do is trust in the goodness of life and try to live up to that ideal. When you slip, forgive yourself, and try to forgive others in turn, but, even better, head off trouble before it arrives. Disruption, interruption, separation, quarrelling, sowing of discord and strife, mischief making, sorrow, tears, yet mirth in evil pleasures, singing, faithfulness in promises, honesty in money transactions, selfishness and dissipation, yet sometimes generous, deceitful in words and repetition. The whole according to dignity. Unsettling news leading to heartbreak or loneliness. Tactless or hurtful words. Acting without consideration for the emotions of others. Betrayal of trust or confidence. The revelation of a painful truth. Heartbreak, feeling lost, betrayal, stabbed in the back, to break your word, having your feeling hurt.  The Three of Swords card suggests that dwelling on past pain, heartbreak or loss leaves you vulnerable to further attack or reopens old wounds. It can ultimately consume you, particularly if it is your own heart that has betrayed you. Thoughts of getting even will make things worse. Taking each betrayal or loss too personally becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy so that when you do finally let down your guard and trust again, you find yourself embroiled in the same emotional drama you vowed to avoid. Being on the defensive or carrying a chip on your shoulder practically ensures tension or wounded pride and your self-esteem may suffer as a result. Certain loss is irrevocable. The ensuing crisis can be a turning point for your relationship or love life, but only if you are willing to let go and take a chance.
Keywords: Lack of mercy, separation, alienation, grief, error, absence, sorrow, locked up emotions, religious bigotry, self-righteousness, removal, dispersion, conscious insight, decisive realization

FOUR OF SWORDS
In readings, the Four of Swords is often a sign that you need to slow down and get some rest. If you are recovering from an illness, allow yourself quiet time to heal. Even if you feel completely healthy, you are risking getting sick if you don't take a break. The Four of Swords also represents taking the time to think things over without hurry. It is important to step back and gain perspective. This is especially true when you are facing an ordeal or big event. You need quiet preparation time to gather your strength and center your energy. Sometimes the Four of Swords implies that you are or could be shifting focus from the external to the internal. When we are silent, we can more easily go within. The prince in the picture appears to be praying or meditating deeply. Actually, he appears to be dead! For those who are addicted to activity, rest and quiet can seem like death, but that is certainly not the case. Stillness holds its own rewards, but they must be recognized and sought. Rest from sorrow, yet after and through it. Peace from and after war. Relaxation of anxiety. Quietness, rest, ease and plenty, yet after struggle. Goods of this life, abundance. Modified by dignity as in the other cases. A time of tranquility and intellectual repose in the midst of a great struggle. A temporary retreat from stress to gather inner strength, reaffirm convictions, reorganize thoughts, and formulate a new plan. The need for vigilance in a moment of calm. May suggest a withdrawal from the material world to find spiritual guidance. Take a break, get a fresh perspective, relax, tie up loose ends, find your inner voice, find yourself.  Our mutual losses or experience deserve to be acknowledged or remembered with dignity, honor, and respect even as we regroup to move forward. I am willing to work on forgiveness and letting go of the past in order to find peace. It's time to give it a rest. I am empowered by stillness and my virtue is silence. The Four of Swords suggests that you might feel isolated as the result of a previous heartbreak or hurt. This is not the moment to react or cut loose. Your willingness to be receptive to circumstances no matter how harsh is what will ultimately revitalize your self-image and love life. You can get back in the game and bounce back better than ever, but you need to wait for a sign of encouragement. Bide your time wisely, tune out negativity and slow down. Give yourself time to know where you stand. Seek a retreat so you can recover your nerve, and don't be so hard on yourself.
Keywords: Truce, alliance, peace talks, calm after a conflict, retreat, agreement, concentration, mental work, mental challenges, respite, rest after illness, replenishment, solitude, exile

FIVE OF SWORDS
In readings, the Five of Swords can mean that you or someone else is forgetting this larger view of self. You are defining your interests too narrowly. If you try to get ahead in isolation, your actions will come back to haunt you later, one way or the other. Sometimes this card implies a need to put your own interests first. If you are being abused or taken advantage of, you must get free. If you are worn out by demands, take care of yourself. If it is your turn, step forward and claim your due. Just be aware that if you hurt others in the process, your victory will not feel complete. The Five of Swords also represents hostility - from a cross word to warfare. This card can signify dishonors that are fairly open. Cheats, lies, tricks, deceits, even crimes. You may be on the receiving end, or be the perpetrator. Either way, hold to a larger view of who you are. Find the solution that is best for everyone...including yourself. Think only of yourself, gloat, create disharmony, dishonor, end justifies the means, being unethical, power trips.  The Five of Swords card suggests that this could be a warning. Don't stoop to getting revenge, playing mind games or gloating for the sake of making someone squirm. You may be manipulating another after they've served their purpose in an effort to maintain the upper hand in a love matter -- and gaining satisfaction from it. A need to be vindicated for previous wrongs might be your motive, but you might be going too far by treating your partner or prospect with contempt. While this situation or battle may be resolved in your favor, the war is far from over. If you hurt or embarrass another or betray trust in order to have the last laugh, watch your back, it will come full circle.
Keywords: Disgrace, weakness, blame, late night, acceptance of the unavoidable, clear perspective, new knowledge, adversary may rise, uncertain outlook

SIX OF SWORDS
Sometimes this card represents a dull, listless state. Nothing is seriously wrong, but nothing is really right either. You're getting by, but not thriving. In the picture the figures in the boat seem sad and disengaged. Life is indeed uninteresting when we feel the blues. In a more positive vein, the Six of Swords can indicate recovery. This is especially true when you have just experienced a tough time or psychological blow. During the crisis, you felt numb and disconnected; nothing mattered at all. Now you are beginning to heal and pick up the pieces of your life. The travelers in our boat are at least moving forward. They are headed toward a new place, even if they are not yet ready to eagerly embrace those shores. In fact, the Six of Swords can indicate travel and moves of all kinds. This could mean an actual change of scene, relocation or trip, but not necessarily. A journey can also take place on the inner planes as we move from one frame of mind to another. Although the Six of Swords does not promise great joy, it also avoids the depths of despair. When you see this card, know that even though the situation is not ideal, you are moving toward a more positive place. Change is in the air, and new, more hopeful conditions lie ahead. Trusting in intelligence and intuition and setting off into the unknown. Leaving an untenable situation and charting a new course. Passage from difficulty and progress towards a solution. The road to recovery. Travel and exploration. Rest and recovery, the road not traveled, moving away, barely functioning, the fires of hope start to rekindle, depression.  The Six of Swords card suggests that the worst might be over, but now what? It may be time to accept the facts and move out of your comfort zone, seek refuge or guidance from someone in the same boat in order to resolve, reconcile and move on. See your way out of a negative situation, for it may have nothing left to offer you. Rebuilding trust or seeking a better life needs to be done although you may not meet it with much enthusiasm or confidence. Make sure you don't take your previous baggage with you on this emigration. You must dump the heartbreak, resentment, tension, dependency or ties that burden you, otherwise you could recreate similar conditions or trade one hardship or bad relationship for another.
Keywords: Deserved success, balance, intelligent behavior, explanation, change in the way of thinking, new mental orientation conscious association, a trip or journey

SEVEN OF SWORDS
In readings, the Seven of Swords can be a sign that you or someone else wants to be a lone wolf. You feel that you will be more effective and comfortable on your own. This approach is useful when you need to bypass an ineffectual group or assert your independence, but it can also be troubling. We cannot be happy and productive for long without some commitment to others. If you feel inclined to act alone, be sure this isolation is really working for you. Sometimes the Seven of Swords means that you are running from something - commitment, responsibility, hard work, love. You may be procrastinating, letting problems slip because you don't want to deal with them. Sometimes we just have to face what has to be faced. The Seven of Swords lets you know when you might be making things worse for yourself and others by running away. The Seven of Swords can also indicate a hidden dishonor - a choice you or another has made that does not do justice to the highest. We all make wrong choices that we want to hide. Some of these are minor, some serious. Your inner voice will tell you when this is happening. When you see the Seven of Swords, take a good look at what you're doing because hidden dishonors will eat away at your happiness and self-respect. An opportunity to withdraw from a hopeless situation and fight another day. Disengagement from a struggle you should never have been involved in. A desperate attempt to resolve a matter without conflict. The use of cleverness or outright deception to turn the tide in your favor. Taking the easy way out, being Ronan, two faced, to lie cheat and steal, to go it alone, being aloof, let others take the blame.  The Seven of Swords card suggests that a bold approach might give you the upper hand in this matter. In fact, the possibility of being caught with your hand in the proverbial cookie jar might be half the thrill. You might need a cover or lookout, so enlist those on the inside to keep watch during your daring escapade, deception or tryst. To avoid unnecessary confrontation, be certain not to leave any little reminders of your intentions. This might be difficult, you could be tempted to do so just to prove your ability to outwit people, particularly if you are simply playing games. Watch your back and be careful in whom you place your trust, for you could be in league with people who have motives of their own.
Keywords: uselessness, vain effort, inconstant behavior, tolerance, unclear intentions, advice, new plans, wishes, consciously defining a goal

EIGHT OF SWORDS
In readings, the Eight of Swords is often a sign that you are heading toward (or already in) a situation in which you will feel a lack of freedom and choice. Such situations are tricky because the more you get into them, the more restricted you feel. At each step, your options seem to narrow until you feel completely stuck. When you see this card, remember that you do have choices, and you do have power. No matter how trapped you feel, you can find a way out if you believe it is possible. The young girl in the picture could free herself. She could wriggle free, tear off the blindfold, and kick down those swords. Solutions are not always easy, but they exist. Find your clarity of thought and purpose (the Swords ideal) and use them to take that first step toward home. Losing interest in a matter deeply important to you. Being forced to abandon something in which you had invested great love and devotion. Seeking earthly, physical pleasures, to the exclusion of spiritual growth and emotional fulfillment. Emotional withdrawal and lethargy. Chagrin at the unforeseen consequences of prior decisions. Criticism, censure, and the imposition of external restrictions. Confusion leading to powerlessness. Inability to focus on the crux of a problem and free oneself from a difficult situation. Being hamstrung by a past failure or humiliation. Panic, cannot see the way out, paranoia, stuck by happenstance, feeling powerless, trapped inside the box.  The Eight of Swords card suggests that you might have to put yourself out there, set your boundaries or prove yourself. Be willing to sacrifice your pride or take a risk in order to escape unhealthy circumstances. You may not see an immediate way out and may claim that your hands are tied in order to avoid accountability, but absolving yourself of responsibility for your situation leave you trapped or isolated. Until you see with your heart and assert your independence, you could remain burdened by your own unrealistic expectations, fear, guilt or embarrassment.
Keywords: Disturbance, interference, limitation, conflict, blame, resistance, problematic thoughts, mental prison, imprisonment, criticism, limitation of ideas, great mental tasks, past treachery.

NINE OF SWORDS
It makes sense that the figure on the Nine of Swords is in bed because it is during the night that our grief's and regrets come to mind most intensely.  The Nine of Swords represents this unhappiness which can strike us at any time. Unlike the pain of the Three of Swords which seems to come from without, the Nine of Swords represents the pain that we generate from within. What tortures we put ourselves through when our fears and doubts overwhelm us. Worry is probably the most common.  The Nine of Swords is not the most pleasant of cards, but it doesn't always indicate major distress. Often it is just a sign of some element of unhappiness or trouble - a vulnerable spot in your life. This card is often a warning from your Inner Guide that the path you are going down may be a difficult one. Examine your situation carefully to be sure you are making the best choices. Even a small change can make all the difference. Debilitating mental anguish or ill health. Being dragged down by the dishonor of others. Participation in a shameful or regrettable act. Inescapable guilt, mistrust, and doubt. May indicate a death or other catastrophic loss. Cannot see the positive.  The Nine of Swords card suggests that you should try to contain your emotions until you have everything in order. Later you can retreat into your comfort zone and let it all out -- the regret or guilt that sticks like a thorn and keeps you from confronting shattered romantic illusions. Be aware that the fear or sorrow hanging over your head could be taking its toll on your love life or relationship. If this torment is recurring, realize that it isn't about what you have done to deserve this, but more about the natural consequences of something you have been unable to see clearly until now. This is about that moment of painful yet necessary realization. Inevitable change must come.
Keywords: War, despair, sadness, failure, worry, pain, suffering, guilt, restlessness, agony, depression, negative thoughts, fear, shame, anxiety over a loved one, acceptance of reality, self-realization, brilliant ideas.

TEN OF SWORDS
One meaning of the Ten of Swords is hitting rock bottom. When one disaster follows another, we feel devastated at first, but eventually we throw up our hands and laugh. It's so bad, it's funny!  "What else could possibly go wrong?" When you see the Ten of Swords, know that  you can expect a turn for the better. This card can also show when you're in victim mentality. You're certain that the whole world is picking on you just to make your life difficult. When we're in victim mentality, we think everything is horrible, hopeless and impossibly unfair. Being a martyr is also a favorite Ten of Swords activity. Being a martyr in this sense is not the same as making a sacrifice for another with no strings attached. With the Ten of Swords, either is possible, but doing a good turn for someone else is more satisfying without the strings. Sometimes the Ten of Swords indicates a sad event, there is not even a hint of laughter in your heart. Most of the time the Ten of Swords has a lighter side. It is as if your Inner Guide is gently kidding you about how you are handling your own personal tale of woe. When you see the Ten of Swords, check your attitude and know you've reached the point where things will definitely begin to look up. Crushing defeat brought about by idle intellectualism divorced from reality. Sadness and desolation in the aftermath of a catastrophic and total collapse. A decisive conclusion brought about through the swift and merciless application of overwhelming force. Self pity, hitting rock bottom, no where else to go but up, feeling powerless, being a doormat, being a victim.  The Ten of Swords card suggests that everything's over but the tears. Whether it's tears of sorrow or joy is a matter for you to decide. When the last straw falls, you might finally reconcile a painful past that could exist more in your head than in reality. Regardless of where the fear lies, its effect on your love life is still valid and powerful. The impact of letting memories keep you down may be severe, especially if you roll over and play dead. All good and bad things must come to an end. This might be the time for you to learn to let go of old wounds, heartbreak and injustices that could be hurting or controlling your relationships. The ensuing release, relief or liberation that arrives after this key realization can leave you free to begin again and undertake a new chapter in your relationship or love life.
Keywords: Ruin, destruction, defeat, mental confusion, overwhelming thoughts, pain, mental anguish, the lowest point is reached, acceptance of the unexpected, new mental horizons, improvement, help is on the way

PAGE ~PRINCESS OF SWORDS
The Page of Swords is a messenger bringing you challenges. He suggests that an opportunity for growth may come your way in the guise of a problem or dilemma. These challenges may not be your favorites. In fact, you probably will want to say "Thanks...but no thanks." The Page of Swords asks you to embrace these difficult situations. Think of them as trials designed to test your mettle. If you accept and prevail, you will become stronger and more resilient. In meeting these challenges, you are encouraged to use the tools of the Swords suit - honest, reason, integrity and fortitude. The Princess of Swords can also stand for a child or young-at-heart adult whose interactions with you involve truthfulness, ethical behavior, discouragement or matters of the mind. This relationship is likely to be troubled or difficult in keeping with the challenges of the Swords suit. Sometimes the Page of Swords implies that your entire situation is one suffused with the spirit of learning, discovery, and mental activities of all kinds. At such times, use your mind and enjoy the delights of the intellect.  The essence of air behaving as earth, such as a steady wind: The approach of an unexpected challenge, to be met with clear thought and just action. The use of reason or eloquent speech to penetrate the veil of confusion and cut to the heart of the matter.  The Page of Swords card suggests that you should try to clear your to-do list. Make time for witty chats or conversation. Reminisce or talk out issues that might need to be resolved and be clear about what you want. It may not be romantic, but being fair and practical in this case can help alleviate suspicions and avoid mind games.

KNIGHT ~PRINCE OF SWORDS
In readings, a Prince of Swords shows that his penetrating style is involved in the situation as an aspect of you, someone else or the atmosphere in general. you need to ask yourself, "Is this Prince's energy helping or hurting?" If his style is evident, then balance is needed. Are you always forcing your position on others? Do you get in trouble for saying what you think? Is your partner and colleagues too cold and critical?  It may be time for a change. If this Prince's energy is missing, a dose of clear-sightedness may be called for. Are you too emotional? Let your head rule your heart next time. Do you overvalue the opinions of others? Trust your own authority. Are you afraid to offend? Speak your mind. Let the Prince of Swords introduce you to his world of reason and self-assurance. The essence of air behaving as fire, such as a tornado: A fearless and skillful warrior, unfettered by emotion or material concerns. One able to boldly take on challenges that others consider terrifying or insurmountable. A person who inspires fear and awe through the purity of their purpose and the intensity of their intellect. Speaking frankly, in an outspoken manner, and with great influence. May portend the swift initiation or conclusion of a conflict, through the decisive invocation of force.  The Knight of Swords card suggests that radical change is in the wind, and the resulting storm may be unavoidable. Take the direct approach and channel the influence of this Knight for gaining the advantage. When confronting obstacles or turbulence within your relationship, be on your guard and have a back-up plan or an exit strategy, particularly if you are facing competition or an imminent divorce or separation. Rely on reason and authority. Don't surrender to emotional tirades or hasty decisions that you could come to regret. Try to avoid a tendency to be overly assertive. It may intimidate a current partner or it might scare away any prospective love connections. Learn to make room for human frailty and forgiveness, for this situation may not be anything personal. To debase your relationship with insults can end up coming back to hurt you.

One who easily sees past deception and confusion to the heart of a matter, and understands both sides of any argument. The embodiment of calm, forthrightness, and wit, in the face of even the most trying circumstances. Plays by the rules, quick on the uptake, forthright, experienced, witty and delightful, sees the hidden motives, cannot be fooled.  The Queen of Swords card suggests that you may be influenced by the skill of this Queen to advocate for reasonable means and impartial decisions. Use her strength to open up discussions and persevere in the face of conflict while keeping emotions in check. This situation may serve to complete the connection between wisdom and experience. Consider delegating authority to her or deferring to her impartial opinions -- she can go head-to-head in a battle of wits, making her a natural choice for compassionate mediation or legal assistance. Stick to the facts, know your own mind, follow the rules and keep your distance, but be willing to listen and let your perceptions grow out of the evidence rather than from prejudice or spite. You might be able to better articulate your relationship concerns or demands without getting sidetracked by distractions, gossip or rhetoric.

TWO OF PENTACLES
In readings, the Two of Pentacles lets you know that you can juggle all demands made upon you. In fact, you will relish the excitement of every hurdle. If you do not feel this level of confidence right now, this card asks you to believe in yourself. You have all you need to meet your every goal and more. Embrace the challenge. The Two of Pentacles also reminds you to be flexible. Don't force your way through or you will be cut down. Now is not the time to be rigid. Know that sometimes a side step, or even a back step is the surest way forward. The Two of Pentacles is also a symbol of fun, laughter and good times. It is definitely a high-energy card. If you are feeling tired or depressed, this card may be a sign that greater vitality will be yours. Balance and harmony achieved in a time of upheaval and transformation. Taking two steps forward for every one step back. Shifting the importance of projects and priorities to keep everything on track. A change in occupation or location. Go with the flow, life is a divine comedy, lots of hooks in the water, to adapt, open to new possibilities.  The Two of Pentacles card suggests that this matter may put you in a bit of a bind. However, it may offer two distinct possibilities for handling your time, attention and resources as they affect your relationship or love life. With careful consideration, this could actually be a win-win situation for you, provided you are not sending or receiving mixed messages. This could be a chance to double your pleasure or your chances for material or physical success especially when it comes to physical intimacy or children, provided you are adept at walking the fine line between practical realities and your appetites. You just may need to be reminded of the old sayings 'for better or worse' and 'all things in moderation.

THREE OF PENTACLES
The Three of Pentacles is one of the cards in the Tarot that focuses on the group. (The Three of Cups and the Hierophant are the others.) As Pentacles are grounded and practical, this card represents a task-oriented team - people who are working  toward a common goal. There are few jobs that can be accomplished alone. We need the help of others to achieve our goals. Sometimes the Three of Pentacles is a sign that you will be more productive if you work with others. You don't have to do it all by yourself. This card can also show a need for planning and preparation. Now is not the time to rush into something or begin a project with only a vague idea of what it's about. You need to think everything through, go over all the possibilities and make sure you work out the details. Do your homework, and your undertaking will flourish. Another feature of the Three of Pentacles is competence - the ability to get the job done. This card tells you that you have the skills and knowledge you need. You can attract capable people and create a successful environment. Know that the situation is (or will be) in good hands, but be sure to concentrate on excellence in your work. Be proud of what you do and how you do it. Then you will accomplish your "impossible" mission. The commencement of business, commercial transactions, or employment. The constructive use of creative talents, and the expression of artistry in workmanship. Skill and labor turned to the crafting of things of value. Using the conventional as a medium for expressing the exceptional, in order to build something of great renown and glory. Work as a team, plan ahead, being prepared, getting the job done, doing it right the first time, organization, meeting your goals.  The Three of Pentacles card suggests that you may have the ability to make your relationship a success particularly as it relates to material, health, sensual or financial concerns. This could also be a time of evaluation. You feel the need to prove yourself and be on your best behavior, so put your best food forward and double-check your work. When it comes to your love life, you may need to do more or do something differently. Be clear about your intentions and ask for assistance if necessary. Let your partner be free to express what they need, particularly if you are considering a more serious commitment.
Keywords: work, material foundation, effort, reputation, perseverance, great skill in trade or work, mastery, perfection, fame, narrow-mindedness, weakness, money problems, preoccupation

FOUR OF PENTACLES
In readings, this card asks you to weigh carefully the level of control in your situation. The Four of Pentacles can stand for issues of ownership. You may be involved in getting and keeping money or some other commodity. You may be having problems with possessiveness or jealousy. Use the energy of this card to preserve and defend, but not to lay claim. People need to be free to determine their own lives. The Four of Pentacles also implies blocked change. Opposition may come from those who want to maintain the status quo. It may also come from within yourself. Are you resisting change that is truly needed? We often cling to the familiar even when we know it's not for the best. The lesson of the Four of Pentacles is that control is impossible. Cleaving to earthly power in the desperate fear that it will be lost. Making yourself an obstacle to progress due to lack of originality and a desperate fear of change. Believing that security and identity are based primarily on the possession of material things. Coveting things and people. Living in a cloud of suspicion and prejudice. To save, stagnation, holding on by ones fingernails, creating order, being greedy, materialism, wanting things to stay the same.  The Four of Pentacles card suggests that if you love something, set it free. If it returns, it is yours. If you hang on to the status quo or to a person because you fear being alone again, you may not realize you are already isolated or backed up against a wall with no way out except to change immediately. Are you restricting yourself or using your once-treasured tokens to construct an empty shell that may no longer offer luxury, security or comfort? Money can't buy happiness and you can't take it with you when you go. With the proper incentive, you can bargain your way out of the relationship dog house if you let go of some of your stubborn pride and accept the consequences.
Keywords: Power, legacy, gift, great talent, love of wealth, wish to provide for others, generosity, application for a scholarship, hoarder, inability to share, obstacles, pride, setbacks in business, spendthrift

FIVE OF PENTACLES
In readings, the Five of Pentacles can represent several kinds of lack. First, there is poor health. This card can be a signal that you are neglecting the needs of your body. You are moving away from complete physical well-being, so you must take steps to discover and correct the problem. This card can also be a sign of material and economic setbacks. There is no doubt that life is harder when we lack money or a decent job. When we are struggling to make ends meet, all other problems are magnified. Even if we are comfortable, we can still feel insecure, afraid that misfortune will take away all that we have worked for. The Five of Pentacles can also represent rejection or lack of acceptance. We want to be included, not only for our emotional well-being, but also for mutual support. Being rejected can mean physical hardship as well. The Five of Pentacles relates to material lack, but it also has a spiritual component. Comfort is so close at hand, but they fail to see it. We are meant to enjoy abundance in all areas of life, but sometimes we forget that this is our birthright. Whenever you experience hardship, know that it is only temporary. Look for the spiritual center that will take you in and give you shelter. Loss of money or position. Trouble about material things. Land cultivation, building, knowledge and acuteness of earthly things, poverty, carefulness. Kindness, sometimes money regained after severe toil and labor. Hard times brought on by addiction, wasteful spending, ill health, or an outside event. Rejection, loneliness, and the need for comfort. May suggest unemployment, a catastrophe in personal finance, or a turn for the worse in business. Struggle to make ends meet, hard times, being excluded, outcast, and outsider, being rundown and always tired, ill health, losing ones job.  The Five of Pentacles card suggests that your perceived deficiencies, anxieties or cravings may only exist in comparison to the group that you feel is excluding you. Remember that you have options. You are a survivor, able to deal with the flaws of your partner and the cold shoulder from those who see your values as unusual or suspect. Either may be putting a strain on your love life. You can find strength in adversity, so don't be too quick to curse your lot. Be willing to face the unknown hardships for the sake of future improvements, growth and acceptance. Soon you will be in a place where you can express yourself fully. For better or worse, you may still have each other as well as your faith that some good can come of this.

SIX OF PENTACLES
In readings, the Six of Pentacles asks you to look very deeply into the whole issue of what having really means both materially (resources) and immaterially (knowledge, power, love). You may see yourself on one side or the other, but this card asks you to reconsider. Think of the successful businessman who suddenly declares bankruptcy. The tyrannical invalid who dominates through weakness. The teacher who learns from her students. The parent who controls by giving money. The keywords for the Six of Pentacles include both the have and have not sides of each meaning. Sometimes this card is a clear sign one way or the other. You will get the gift you want. You will have to defer to another. In all cases, though, you should question the obvious and go deeper. Why are you in the situation you're in, and where is it leading? Who is really in charge? What's really going on? A time of prosperity and profit. Success and generosity in material things. Power and influence turned to noble pursuits. Philanthropy, and the balancing of physical and spiritual life. May suggest gifts or aid to one in need.   The Six of Pentacles card suggests that all parties represented by this card are about to get what they want or need, but as the receiver, you should be wary of gifts that may come with strings attached. As long as you deserve them, however, they might represent the boost or reward you have been seeking. As the benefactor or dominant force, it is in your nature to share the love or good fortune as a way of expressing the gratitude and security created within your relationship or love life. Remember to give without ulterior motive, otherwise the aid or justice you mete out may be held back from you in a cat-and-mouse cycle of manipulation. Give of yourself openly, be generous with what you have to offer and you will be rich and successful indeed.
Keywords: Success, stability, right timing, scholarship approved, kindness, generosity, charity, gifts, indulgence, desire, envy, jealousy

SEVEN OF PENTACLES
In readings, this card suggests that you take the time to be sure you're meeting your goals. The Seven of Pentacles can also indicate a crossroads. In life, there's a tendency to continue with familiar routines. To go in a new direction isn't easy. The Seven of Pentacles may be telling you to figure out if you need a course correction, or even a complete about-face. You're not yet committed to a certain path, but you could be soon. Change is still possible. The Seven of Pentacles is not a card of endings or final decisions. The game is not over, but only on hold for a moment. Once you've gotten your breath back and checked your strategy, be ready to jump back in and work even harder than before. Weighing your options, seeing the end of the road, check your map, stay on course, seeing results, take in the harvest, you earned it.  The Seven of Pentacles card suggests that you should use a brief break to assess and make adjustments to your priorities or relationship. You can also simply capture the moment and admire or consider the progress made. Much may depend on the full maturation of this matter, so be patient and persevere without rushing to judgment. Remind yourself of the purpose of what you are doing. There is much work ahead, but the time is not yet ripe for you to act. Don't assume anything or meddle, but let nature take its course. Stick to tending your own backyard and your interest will flourish and give back to you sevenfold. Don't hurry, for shortcuts at this point could spoil your chances.

EIGHT OF PENTACLES
The essential elements of the Eight of Pentacles: hard work and attention to detail. This card often implies a time of great diligence and focus. It advises you to hammer away at the business of the moment, whether a work project, family difficulty, personal goal or unpleasant duty. Sometimes blessings fall into our laps to be enjoyed. Other times we must put out great effort to obtain them. The Eight of Pentacles represents moments when you must give 110%.  Fortunately, this kind of work is invigorating and leads to superb results. The labor of the Eight of Pentacles is deeply satisfying and productive. The Eight of Pentacles can also symbolize the impulse to learn or broaden your horizons. Sometimes we need to develop new skills. The Hermit is looking for inner knowledge. The man on the Eight of Pentacles seeks external knowledge - the how and why of the material world. This card can also show the need for meticulous attention. People who are painstaking are often dismissed as nit-pickers, but their extra effort ensures everything is as it should be. It's a matter of caring - taking the time to check the little details. Now is not the time to be slipshod or casual. Look for errors, and tie up loose ends. The key to success is an extraordinary effort. Whatever your task, the Eight of Pentacles tells you to give it your all in every way. Dedicating yourself fully to a task. Learning a new craft or skill. Applying painstaking attention to detail. Industriousness and the efficient completion of tasks. Sticking with a project long enough to see it through. It's all in the details, working hard, diligence, learn a new trade, upgrade your skills, make an effort, training.  The Eight of Pentacles card suggests that you might feel ready to take things to the next level, but you need to find your groove or be prepared to put your all into whatever material, financial, sexual or other labor of love you are working on. Send love notes, stick with what or who you know and take a hands-on approach to self-expression. Prepare to put your time and focus into streamlining the final details of this matter. Add your own personal touches, for it may be part of a lasting mark. Line up your options, for your creations could be put out there. Even in a buyer's market, you can prove yourself to be a pearl beyond price.

NINE OF PENTACLES
In readings, the Nine of Pentacles can imply an interest in these areas. It is also a sign that you may need to reject the coarse or offensive and seek the highest. The Nine of Pentacles can also be a sign of discipline and self-control. This woman enjoys her cultured life because she has mastered her baser instincts. Her impulses work for her because they do not rule her. The falcon symbolizes all that is dark and unruly in human nature. Our shadow side can serve us well, but only when it is directed. Sometimes the Nine of Pentacles suggests that you must show restraint and self-control if you are to achieve your best efforts. You may have to "sacrifice" for the moment, but the results will be worth it. This card is also a sign of self-reliance. Sometimes you must trust our own ability to handle a situation. Resist the temptation to let others do for you. You need to take matters into your own hands. Our elegant lady has done just that. She trusted in her own grit and determination, and now she enjoys all the best life has to offer. Good luck attending material affairs. Attaining refinement and embracing elegance. Discipline and nobility applied to the maintenance of security and stability. The wise use of resources and foresight. The fulfillment that comes with accomplishment, and the turning of attention to higher things. Self-control, restraint, rely on yourself, being tact and graceful, enjoy the finer things in life, stick to the program, enjoy your vacation.  The Nine of Pentacles card suggests that the hard part is over. You've paid your dues and you have nothing to prove. Let the results speak for themselves and don't dirty your hands with idle, trendy or high maintenance indulgences like lovers who don't give back. Take appropriate precautions and nurture the finer things that are in tune with your needs and that faithfully satisfy multiple senses. Craft a flowing comfort zone, retreat, home or romantic paradise from these established simple pleasures or self-renewing efforts. Maintain self-confidence, self-control, independence and the art of being alone. Consistent feeding of your spirit creates a rich and replenished soul.

TEN OF PENTACLES
In readings, this card may be telling you to concentrate on the long-term. Work toward a lasting solution. Now may be the time to settle down and make the arrangements that will work for you far into the future. Talents waiting to be used. Completion of material prosperity and riches. Freedom from financial anxiety, the security of home, and the enjoyment of family. The passing of inheritance along to children, or the gaining of inheritance from parents. A winning streak, success in business, built to last, security, living within your means, becoming part of the establishment, financial security.  The Ten of Pentacles card suggests that if you are meeting your lover's family for the first time, be wary of expectations to act as a well-behaved child. If you are married or divorced, it's time to get out and circulate, but seek out unexpected bargains or pleasant conversation rather than candlelit dinners or trendy hot spots. You might gravitate toward community events, parks or other venues where you can be yourself. This will help you foster improvements and reciprocity in your relationship, which could work toward securing prosperity for the future. Should you confront the needs of caring for an elderly parent or another domestic issue, let it represent just another branch in your family tree. Appreciate the ties and enrichment that intergenerational commitment, acceptance and respect generates.

PAGE ~PRINCESS OF PENTACLES
The Page of Pentacles is a messenger bringing you opportunities for prosperity. He delivers real chances to experience wealth, abundance, security and solid achievement - the wonders of the Pentacles suit. In your readings, this Page suggests that an opening may appear that promises enrichment, comfort, trust or the chance to make your dreams real. When you see such a chance, act on it! The Page of Pentacles can also stand for a child or young-at-heart adult whose interactions with you involve stability, trust, commitment, safety and material needs. Sometimes the Page of Pentacles implies that your entire situation is suffused with the spirit of physical enjoyment. At such times, feel free to have fun with your body, skills and possessions in a lighthearted way. Revel in the delights of being alive on Earth at this time. The essence of earth, such as a mountain: The surprising appearance of new prosperity and opportunities for advance in the physical world. One who delights in the pleasures of the body, material things, and nature. The embrace of hard work, realistic goals, and scholarly perseverance as a means to create solid achievement. Dependability, trust, and a studious nature. May portend a new job or promotion. Be practical, use common sense, affect your reality, enrich yourself, believe in others, keep your word, become prosperous.  The Knave of Pentacles card suggests that romance may be on the back burner if your focus is directed toward financial or material goals or raising children. This is a reminder to set aside time to enjoy or explore dating and physical intimacy. Celebrate the fruits of your labors. If you've got it, flaunt it, but be aware of a tendency to put too much emphasis on the relevance of gifts or using quantity or luxury as the measure of a good relationship.
Keywords: Young, strong, promising person, carefulness, communication, deep concentration and application, fondness of luxury, spoiled person, illogical thinking - Considers material concepts

KNIGHT ~PRINCE OF PENTACLES
In readings, a Prince of Pentacles shows that his cautious style is involved in the situation as an aspect of you, someone else or the atmosphere in general. You need to ask yourself, "Is this Prince's energy helping or hurting?" If his style is evident, then balance is needed. Are you working too hard? Do you refuse to listen to reason?  Is the atmosphere around you one of gloom and doom? It may be time for a change. If this Prince's energy is missing, a dose of prudence may be needed. Are you spending too much? Maybe it's time to slow down. Do you give up too soon? Dig in and refuse to quit. Is your work often careless, late or incomplete? Next time resolve to work and get the job done. Let the Prince of Pentacles introduce you to his world of care and persistence. The essence of earth behaving as fire, such as molten magma: One slow to action, but decisive and unrelenting once set in motion. A force of nature whose methods are as predictable and dependable as they are unstoppable. A Man with dark eyes and dark hair. Laborious, clever and patient in material matters. If ill-dignified, he is heavy, dull, and material. Can be avaricious, grasping, dull, jealous, not very courageous, unless assisted by other symbols. The voice of duty, honor, and responsibility. The will to the change the world, not through bold action, but through the thorough and unwavering application of proven means. Unwavering stubbornness, careful and stagnant, realistic yet pessimistic, can't see the forest for the trees.   The Knight of Pentacles card suggests that it is ironic that at the abundant banquet of life, most poor suckers are starving or trying to buy what should be had for free. Don't be one of them. Use this downtime to appreciate your current status, to make practical decisions that are based on the actual effort you are willing to expend and to reassess where your relationship is heading in the future. What you value, protect or work at will eventually take on a life of its own and give back to you that which you have put in. Get real about the progress, priorities and quality of your love life, domestic situation or standard of living. Above all, keep it simple and don't worry about what other people do. Plan ahead and consider my options to set priorities or define goals that serve my long-term purpose. My values lay in the potential that often remains unseen by others. I am cautious, steady, optimistic and reliable and have earned the new trust or position that empowers me. My asset is accepting responsibility.

Do you feel generous? Can you be counted on when times are tough? This Queen can also represent a man or woman who is like her, or an atmosphere of warmth, trust and security. In a reading, she tells you that her special energy has meaning for you at this time. Let yourself be inspired by this Queen in whatever form she appears in your life. A person steadfast, practical, and domestic, able to create opulence and stability in any setting. The qualities of maturity and sensibility, coupled with an innate appreciation for nature and the material world. Love and support, green thumb, down to earth, resourceful, true to given word, unselfish, unflinching loyalty.  The Queen of Pentacles card suggests that you could reap the benefits from this Queen's generous domestic connection, perhaps by learning from her example. You can create the comforts of a career, home and family without being run ragged or seeming smug. Treat each project, plant, pet or job like your baby. Foster its independence or its ability to grow big and strong. Give someone who looks up to you another chance, or turn an error into your unique style by adding your special touch. KING OF PENTACLES

For example: keeping a commitment, fixing something that's broken, making money, or sponsoring a new enterprise. This King can also represent a man or woman who is acting as he does, or an atmosphere of steady, reliable competence. In a reading, he tells you that his special energy has meaning for you at this time. Let yourself be inspired by this King in whatever form he appears in your life. A philanthropist and devotee of both luxury and hard work, whose word is as good as gold. Has the Midas touch, sees opportunity everywhere, skillful and adept, reliable and steady, ready to pitch in and help.  The King of Pentacles card suggests that when it comes to your relationship or love life, there can be too much of a good thing, particularly if you fall into the trap of showing off. Like an all-you-can-eat buffet, where what you want is quantity, the situation changes or disappears once the want has been sated. But in matters of the heart, do what you believe, which, like a banquet, is all about quality. Tend to what you need, consider those who rely on you for support and practice gratitude. You may find that you are surrounded by a cornucopia of abundance and in a position to share this bounty with others. The more you give, the less you will suffer want in the first place. Get back to basics and make a clean sweep of those things that are cluttering up your love life or distracting you from true commitment and sensual pleasure.

VAMPYRESS' FAVORITE TAROT SPREAD:
CELTIC "of course" here is the  layout for the CELTIC SPREAD. Move further down to "see" what I have explained to you!

Having selected the Significator card, place it on the table, face upwards. Then shuffle and cut the rest of the pack three times, keeping the faces of the cards downwards.

Turn up the top or FIRST CARD of the pack; cover the Significator with it, and say: This covers him. This card gives the influence which is affecting the person or matter of inquiry generally, the atmosphere of it in which the other currents work.

Turn the SECOND CARD and lay it across the FIRST, saying: This crosses him. It shows the nature of the obstacles in the matter. If it is a favorable card, the opposing forces will not be serious, or it may indicate that something good in itself will not be productive of good in the particular connection.

Turn up the THIRD CARD; place it above the Significator, and say: This crowns him. It represents (a) the aim or ideal in the matter; (b) the best that can be achieved under the circumstances, but that which has not yet been made actual.

Turn up the FOURTH CARD; place it below the Significator, and say: This is beneath him. It shows the foundation or basis of the matter, that which has already passed into actuality and which the Significator has made his own.

Turn up the FIFTH CARD; place it on the side of the Significator from which he is looking, and say: This is behind him. It gives the influence that is just passed, or is now passing away.

Turn up the SIXTH CARD; place it on the side that the Significator is facing, and say: This is before him. It shows the influence that is coming into action and will operate in the near future.

The cards are now disposed in the form of a cross, the Significator--covered by the First Card--being in the center.
(refer to the picture below)

The next four cards are turned up in succession and placed one above the other in a line, on the right hand side of the cross.

The first of these, or the SEVENTH CARD of the operation, signifies himself--that is, the Significator--whether person or thing-and shows its position or attitude in the circumstances.

The EIGHTH CARD signifies his house, that is, his environment and the tendencies at work therein which have an effect on the matter--for instance, his position in life, the influence of immediate friends, and so forth.

The NINTH CARD gives his hopes or fears in the matter.

The TENTH is what will come, the final result, the culmination which is brought about by the influences shown by the other cards that have been turned up in the divination.

The Significator.

1. That covers him

2. What crosses him.

3. What crowns him.

4. What is beneath him.

5. What is behind him.

6. What is before him.

7. Himself.

8. His house.

9. His hopes or fears.

10. What will come

A FEW RULES/NOTES  ON THE PRACTICE OF DIVINATION

1. Before beginning the operation, formulate your question definitely, and repeat it aloud.

2. Make your mind as blank as possible while shuffling the cards.

3. Put out of the mind personal bias and preconceived ideas as far as possible, or your judgment will be tinctured thereby.

4. On this account it is more easy to divine correctly for a stranger than for yourself or a friend.
