Mother Parvati

Mother Parvati, wife of Lord Shiva, here with baby Ganesha.

Gentle Aspect of Shakti

Parvati is the gentle aspect of Shakti, the consort of Shiva.  She is the mother of Ganesha, one of the most worshiped of all the Hindu gods, and Murugan, who is popular with Hindus in south India. She is very nurturing, yet can be tough also if she has to be.

Daughter of the Mountain

Her name means "the daughter of the mountain". She endured great hardships to win the heart of Shiva, actually going to the mountains to pursue meditation to gain his attention. In her past life she was Sati, the first wife of Shiva.

The Power of God

Parvati becomes Durga and then Kali when she has to get fierce. In all of her forms she is Shakti, the power of God.
