Veterinarian help for pets.

Selecting the correct building material for the cat enclosure plans is important for your pets health.
The cats run will be exposed to the weather and the building material will need a weather proof coating.

Be careful not to select a plywood for the cats house that has been treated with any chemicals which may be toxic for your pet.
Cats have been known to chew or claw on their housing.
When the plywood has been treated with any chemical it may be absorbed by your cat and possibly make it ill requiring a trip to the veterinarian for help.

Easy access to the cat run for cleaning and replacing litter trays will be required. The cat run plan can be modified to fit a suitable entrance.

If insulation batts are to be used for insulating the cats enclosure do not use any insulating material that has been treated with a pesticide.

Cat enclosure plan

Building a cats enclosure plan will require only basic tools.
Select timber for the cat house framing that is approximately two inches square.
This is suitable for a large cats house or enclosure.
The amount of timber framing for the cats home that will be required is enough to line the inside of the base plus the sides and the four corners of the cats house.
Allow a bit of extra timber to use as guides to reposition the roof of the cat house and also for runners under the floor of the cat house base to keep it of the ground.

Cat run plans

Metal fittings that are to be used in the building of the cats run plans can be galvanized or zinc plated to protect them from rusting. Use only galvanized nails and screws or any that have been protected from rusting on any joins that are exposed to the weather.
Parts of the cats run plan can be glued toghether.
A contact adhesive that is water proof can be used in the construction of the cats house frame.
Painting for the cats run should be done with paint that does not contain lead in it. If a pet chews on the habitat there is a possibility that the cat may ingest some of the paint.

Building a cats enclosure

To start building the cats enclosure we start with the base.
Line the interior borders of the cats house base with the timber. Remember to cut out a section of the front framing that is the same size as the door opening.

Screw, glue and nail the sides to the cat house base keeping the plywood side flush with the bottom underside of the base.
Fix the upright corner pieces of the timber framing to the side edges of the cat house.
Position and fit the back of the cats house next. Ensure that the back plywood sits flush to the outside of the plywood sides and flush to the base underside.
Then fit the front of the cats home keeping the edges flush with the sides and base underside.
Now place the roof of the cats house in a position that is suitable for the enclosure and fit the roof guides to the underside of the cats enclosure roof.

Building a cats run

Building the windows for the cat run. Use any timber left over as runners under the floor to keep the enclosure of the ground.

To fit a window or windows to the cat house use a piece of cardboard that is the approximate size of the window required.
Draw the shape of the window onto the cardboard and cut along the drawn lines.
Hold the cut out shape against the cat house wall in the position that you require the windows to be placed.
With a pencil draw the shape onto the selected wall area and then cut out the shape. If the window is large and there is movement in the wall, make a frame for the window and pin it to the wall to strengthen it.

To insulate the cats sleeping and resting area a tar paper can be used to line the interior of the cats home. Insulation batts can also be used for the cat house insulation but they must be cut to fit in between the cats house framing.
Both forms of insulating material will need a liner to prevent the cats house insulation from attacks.
Some cats are alergic to insulating material and veterinarian assistance may be needed before building the cat run plans.
