Ranma ½
(A gender bending, shape shifting, 'martial arts' comedy.)
This is not only (what many call) Rumiko Takahashi's most popular work, but is also one of the most famous manga titles ever, due to its long running nature, many anime productions and a couple of Super Famicom games.
The basic plot goes something like this - Ranma and his dad go to China for martial arts training, but unfortunately both of them fall into a cursed spring. Now when they touch cold water, they change shape, whilst hot water reverses the effect. Ranma's dad changes into a panda whilst Ranma himself changes into a girl. Hence the title - he's male only half the time. (Kind of...)
Ranma's dad's old mate was going to marry off one of his daughters to Ranma. A girl and a panda race into his house, and thus the scene is set.
This is all an excuse for a very silly comedy, which is amazingly funny at times. There's a lot of spoofing of common manga themes, and there's a lot of silly fighting.
As the series goes on, more and more
characters are slowly introduced, some of which have also fallen into a cursed
spring. This adds a whole lot to the series, and as each character is introduced
the web of rivalries and love affairs becomes more complex.

There have been over 16 graphic novels published and they're still brilliant. Suitable for all ages and both genders, it can truly be called a classic. You'll find this in any decent comic shop. Have a look at it today!
Make sure to read the volumes in order, though.
