  Bus STC
            (State Transport Corporation) buses travel from the bus stand near
            Rani Sipri's Mosque to, among other places, Vadodara (Rs. 45/52 for
            standard/semi deluxe, 2.5 hours), Palitana (Rs. 68/77, five hours),
            Jamnagar (Rs. 95/101, eight hours), Bhavnagar (Rs. 65/74, four
            hours) and Rajkot (Rs.122 for semi deluxe only, 6.5 hours). If
            your're traveling long distances, private buses are a more expensive
            but much quicker alternative; many of their offices are just east of
            the STC bus stand, Punjab Travels (+91 79 6589200), Embassy Market,
            just off Ashram Road has number of intercity services, including
            Ajmer (Rs. 220, 13 hours), Aurangabad (Rs. 300, 15 hours), Jaipur (Rs.
            250, 16 hours), Jodhpur (Rs. 200, 15 hours), Mt. Abu (Rs. 140, seven
            hours) and Udaipur (Rs. 100, eight hours).  They have another
            office on Pritamnagar Road in the Shefali Shopping Center. 
            Bonny Travels (+91 79 6579265) in Pritamnagar Road serves Jamanagar
            (Rs. 120) and Rajkot (Rs. 90) many times throguhout the day. 
            Also check out "Cool Coaches" by Shreenath Travels to
            popular destinations like Rajkot, Jamnagar and Udaipur.  These
            air conditioned buses are really comfortable. Train There
            is a computerized booking office to the left as you exit Ahmedabad
            train station.  It's open 8am to 8pm Monday to Saturday, 8 am
            to 2 pm on Sunday.  Window No. 6 handles the foreign-tourist
            quota and you could try booking tickets with your credit card at
            Window no. 7.

            airport is 10km north of town; an auto rickshaw costs about Rs. 90. Auto rickshaw Most auto rickshaw
            drivers are willing to use the meter (it's the dial by their left
            knee); make sure they set it to zero at the outset.  Traveling
            from Ahmedabad train station to Sidi Saiyad's Mosque costs about Rs.
            10, though drivers will sometimes quote much more, especially from
            the station. Local
            buses depart from Lal Darwaja.  Ahmedabad has lot better local
            bus service than many other ciities in India.  These buses are
            called AMTS buses. |
