The
often bleak plains of Saurashtra on the Kathiawar peninsula are
generally inhabited by friendly but reserved people. Those in
the country are distinctively dressed - the men wear white turbans,
pleated jackets (short waisted and long sleeved) and jodhpurs (baggy
seat and drainpipe lags) and often sport golden stud earrings.
The women are nearly as colourful as the women of Rajasthan and wear
embroidered backless cholis (sari blouses) which they are
known by various names but most commanly as kanjeri.
