Women and Work
The End of Welfare as We Know It: Welfare Reform in America
A documentary on the Clinton Administration's welfare reform policy and its ramifications and effects on women. A very informative documentary that needs to be prefaced with a discussion on classism because it tends to reinforce some stereotypes of women in poverty.

The Handmaid's Tale
HBO Video, 119min
A film adaptation of the novel written by Margaret Atwood with a slightly different ending.

Pretty Woman
Touchstone Home Video, 1990. 119 min
A film starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere in which a young prostitute, Roberts, and a business man, Gere, fall in love after he solicits her services. A dramatic and entertaining movie that inadvertently addresses many issues of women in poverty. A great example of the isssues of women in poverty that young people can relate to.

Breaking the Glass Ceiling
This film discusses the obstacles that prevent women from getting to the top of an organization and several women discuss hurdles they have had to overcome in the corporate world. (2 tapes, 12 and 25 minutes)

The Double Shift
This film examines the reality of the "double shift" for women and questions if women can ever truly be equal in this situation. (47 minutes)

Problems of Working Women
Chronicles the pressures facing working women with small children. (24 minutes)

Taking on the Boy's Club: Women in the Workplace
This film is a two part ABC news program where professional women discuss their difficulties trying to break in to the "boy's network", legal problems, and issues of the work environment. (46 minutes)

Sex, Power and the Workplace
This half-hour video combines sensitive profiles of harassment victims with expert testimony to powerfully engage and enlighten male and female viewers. Touted as the "…best we've seen on the subject," by human resource and training directors in private, public and military sectors all over the U.S., this tape may be the best investment you make all year.
