Women and Health
Menstruation: Breaking the Silence
A film that addresses the social taboos of menstruation and its impact on society as a rite of passage. Included is a commentary by Judy Chicago who wrote the controversial book for young women and titled Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. Also, the medical and environmental issues of tampons are discussed.

Menopause: Passing to Paradise
This film explores menopause from the perspective of those who have gone through it. A group of women discuss their experience from the beginning to the end of menopause as well as life after menopause. The film also explains facts about menopause.

If These Walls Could Talk
A film staring Cher, Demi Moore, Sissy Spasek and Anne Hesch which is divided into three sections. The first section takes place when abortion was illegal. It shows the experience of a woman who is forces to have an illegal abortion. The second section takes place in the seventies after abortion has been made legal, and shows the difficult decision one woman makes between having another child and furthering her education. The last section takes place in the nineties and deals with the clinic violence that has become so pervasive in today's society.

Fallen Women
A film about Canadian journalist Anne Petrie who wrote a book about her experience in a maternity home where she had a child out of wed lock that she gave up for adoption. The film focuses on her return to the home where she interviews several women about the home and the experience of other women.

Back Alley Detroit
A historical documentary about illegal abortions as they were experienced by all types of women. It chronicles the physicians, women and women's health activists and their reasons for performing the illegal abortions.

Male Circumcision: Human Rites
A program that documents the ritual of female mutilation or female circumcision. It discuss the roots, myths and movement to ban this practice. There are interviews with victims, activists and medical personnel. Also, there is a discussion about the physical risks of female mutilation.

Documents female-genital mutilation (FGM) and the movements to ban it. (40 mins.)

Hot Flash Menopause
A film about the symptoms and stereotypes of menopause from the perspectives of several cultures. It hints at the social construction of menopause and the medical claims to the condition.

Women at Midlife (Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center)
29 minutes
This film chronicles the transition for women into midlife as they move away from childbearing and rearing into menopause. It discusses the health risks women face, and prevention.

Old Wive's Tales (The British Broadcasting Corporation)
40 minutes
This film chronicles the experiences of a 64 year old woman who is trying to have a baby with her 50 year old husband and is denied fertility treatment. The film debates about motherhood myths and age, and the assumption that age should be a large factor in motherhood.

A Choreographer Validates the Older Dancer (Stormy Night Productions)
58 minutes
This film chronicles the lives and work of six of the world's best dancers who were allowed to continue their careers after forty. The film offers the view that aging does not diminish one's capacities.
