Multi denominational Christian outlook
Adventure Ed provides a ‘chemistry' that builds values. I find that process hard to measure or even follow up. It sort of just happens - very well, by the way. Yet there is a spelled-out source for values sharing in Christianity.
With successive membership in many denominations, I find my choice in the community, sharing and tolerance of Multi denominational congregations. It is very important to me that those values be put to effective use, as outreach integrated to church activities.
- Sunday School Teacher
Twice I have been called to this responsibility. I find it interesting, but often too limited in time (1 hour weekly) to be of any real value.
- Missionary
For nine months I was a full-time missionary with the Association of the Holy Spirit for the Unification of Christianity, denomination I subsequently quit. This was a time for much learning, in Theology and in personal values.
- Lay helper
As a University student I lived over a year by a Catholic church, being constantly
inspired by RF. Rufino Orecki, OFM, participating actively in most of the activities
done at that time. Some values learned at that time are a permanent
part of the way I think and act.
- In charge of sound system for the Sanctuary and general needs in La Paz Community Church
- Volunteer - Christian Outreach current
More recently, and as often a possible, I've helped with diverse outreach work as member of the La Paz Community Church, a Multi denominational Christian church in La Paz, Bolivia (www.megalink.com/lapazcommunitychurch), where I am part of the Missions and Benevolence Committee. I have found very worthwhile use of my time translating for volunteer US medical teams that come to poor areas in Bolivia.
Time off for volunteer work
Closely related to the Christian outreach point is my desire/need to dedicate a significant part of my effort and strength for service in Third World countries. I hope any employment arrangements we can decide can somehow make room for me to devote at least a month and a half to this purpose. I do not expect to be paid for this, yet if there would be a way of linking the institution I work with to this kind of efforts, that would be more than appreciated.
Just in case the question arises, I do not feel called to proselitizing. If I were, I would not be looking for a secular job.
Yet I believe I could be effective and loyal to a denomination-based setting, especially if it is reasonably tolerant and is not exclusively geared to proselytizing.
