CANOE RACING ASSOCIATION Canoe and Kayak Racing Resources Last updated 12/27/98 |
Organizations: Texas
Canoe Racing Association TCRA is the only organized canoe racing club in Texas
and is an affiliate of the USCA.
The national marathon canoe racing club. Membership
includes six Canoe News per year including race
tips and results and advertisements for useful equipment.
Strongly recommended.
Membership includes Paddler and American
Canoeist magazine subscriptions, occasional articles
on racing and equipment. More of a recreational club
although ACA does recognize and occasionally hold
International Canoe Federation (ICF) class races.
The national governing board for ICF and olympic canoe and kayak paddlesports including the U.S. sprint and slalom teams. This is for serious
athletes. Membership includes newsletter articles on
national teams, national and international race
schedules, training, technique and equipment. USCKT also
sponsors annual canoe race organizers conference
.
Kayaking Basics with Greg Barton Decent "how to" kayak video available from
USCKT and retail stores. An older and better Greg Barton
video may also be available.
A new Greg Barton book on sprint kayaking.
Everything you need to know about sprint canoe and
kayak except for wing paddle technique.
A very good resource book on flatwater sprint kayak
and canoe racing.
Canoe Racing Simply the best resource book on marathon canoe
racing. Also Available at Spencer Canoes.
Good "how to" canoe racing video. Available from Beech Hill Outfitters in upstate NY.
Very entertaining and informative video on
"the" yankee marathon canoe race. There are
other videos available on the General Clinton as well as
the Ausable Canoe Marathon.
Occasional canoe racing related articles. Annual
buyers guide is helpful in comparing equipment. Back
issues and articles are available. Lee Deviney has some
racing oriented articles.
Unfortunately this excellent tabloid published by Canoe and Kayak magazine is now back in business and is being published by the USCKT. Back issues may be available from the original publisher, Canoe and Kayak Magazine. Otherwise call Lee Deviney for copies of articles on specific topics. Any book or video by Bill Mason may not make you any
faster but will improve your canoeing skills.
