![]() Clocktown On the way, a tree you pass bears a small chalk drawing of the Skull Kid and his two friends—Tael and Tatl. Upon seeing the graffiti, Tatl stops you and asks you to listen to the Skull Kid’s pathetic story. The Skull kid was not liked by his race’s children, thus being ostracized. Two vagabond fairies, brother and sister, are trying to find a master. Tael and Tatl find the Skull Kid sitting by this tree when they first meet him, and befriend him. Later, they etch this drawing in the tree by which they met. Some time later, but not in the distant past, the Skull Kid stops the mask salesman on his way to Clock Town and steals a mask from him. Not knowing its power, the Skull Kid puts on Majora’s Mask, a mask with many mystical powers. An entire Zelda game could be made about the tribe of people who first made Majora’s Mask. The tribe, one of the early civilizations of Termina, had a great government, great agriculture, and extensive care for the ill, although care wasn’t as real as it could be. However, the society receded by diverting to a form of devil worship, “majora” being the word for devil in the tribal language. The Majorians developed shrines for and idols to the devil, but one item was greatest of all. Assisting the high priest, one of the Majorians developed a mask that was to represent the devil. However, the high priest rejected the idea, saying it to be blasphemy for anyone to wear such a mask to imitate the devil. The high priest cursed the man and his creation, filling the sacrilege with great evil powers, and never allowed him to reenter tribal lands. The man wandered the lands of Termina, eventually ending up in a great forest. He had never heard of the forest before now, and believed it was uncharted. Looking about himself, he found a tunnel at the far end of the forest. Not surprisingly, the man found a town at the other end of the tunnel, but the town had no adults to be found. We all know where he ended up—Kokiri, you faithful Zelda followers! The ostracized majorian spoke with Mido, the town’s leader, who sent the mask to the mask trading shop in Hyrule Market. Mido received a great sum of money for the mask, part of which he was good enough to give to the man. The man was later able to open a fishing game on the banks of Lake Hylia. The purpose of your quest has been defined: to return this mystical “Majora’s Mask” to the mask salesman. Previous Part of Story Next Part of Story |
