Zeldamastery:
Hyrule
The commencement of Link’s true journey is when he enters Hyrule Field on the way to the castle. Since you do not yet have the Song of the Sun, Link will undoubtedly incur the wrath of the darkness on Hyrule Field—stalchildren. Oh, they’re so difficult! (Give me a break.) The most probable reason for their existence is that they are the children of the soldiers killed in battle against the new ruling powers of Hyrule.
The Royal family of Hyrule has ruled for approximately 20 years before the beginning of the game—eight years before the birth of Zelda. The present-day King of Hyrule was the leader of a well-organized militia of farmers which was one of the many small cultures vying for leadership over the land of Hyrule: the farmers, the Gerudos, and the Sheikah. Obviously, the peaceful nations of the Gorons, Zoras, and Kokiri were not involved. The war raged for several years, leaving the countryside littered with bodies, which were hastily buried. Since the bodies were not buried in a proper fashion, their souls still haunt all of Hyrule. The children who had been killed today occupy the field of Hyrule, while the Stalfos which inhabit the temples are the adults lashing out against Link, who is supposed to be neutral, but is an envoy for the King. Thus, Link is persecuted. The Poes are a special case. They are the souls of Sheikah, forever wandering the lands of Hyrule to slay the living. The Sheikah used to be a race of great people, wonderful warriors, but they had no strong leadership. They submitted to whatever the King asked of them after their conquering. However, there remains only one Sheikah—Impa.
Zelda as a young girl is more palatable in her appearance than older Zelda. She looks as she should—princessly. When you meet Zelda as an adult, she is much more masculine in appearance because of the hiding from Ganondorf as Sheik. Realistic with medieval principles, no women in the story hold the jobs tradition assigned to men, except for Zelda and Malon. Since Malon’s father is lazy, she has to do much work around Lon Lon Ranch. Also, she has become Hyrule’s greatest horse trainer by the time she becomes an adult, a position a man would usually hold.
With the destruction of her race, Impa demands the reconstruction of her village, Kakariko. Although the Sheikah can no longer claim the village as their home, the farmers have held Impa’s house, the only one in Kakariko to survive the war, as a tourist attraction.
