Zeldamastery:
Woodfall
When entering the Southern Swamp, you see the boat ride shop, but the ticket saleswoman is not there. Aaarrrggghhh! The saleswoman is Koume, whom you had battled with great effort in Ocarina of Time. Now, was she the witch of fire or ice? I don't remember. Perhaps you should sent me an e-mail informing me, no matter. Travelling down the swamp on lillypads which will sink if you sand on them as a child, you happen upon the Hags' Magic Potion Shop. Kotake is the only one inside. Surprisingly, she has retained her name, most probably because she was a major boss in Ocarina of Time. Koume, the boat cruise operator has gone in search of Magic Mushrooms for her sister. Somehow, the Skull Kid got off his perch atop the Clock Tower and hit her across the back of the head. Now you must save her! Fun. The bad thing is that any time you want to go to the Deku Palace, you must repeat this subplot. Why shoud you have to do this for a set of twins who tried to kill you in Ocarina of Time? Lastly, why does Kotake have her eyes open when you enter the Potion Shop, but she starts her conversation with you as if she's coming awake? Bad programming.
After completing part of your ride, and arriving at the Deku Palace, you speak with the guards who tell you that you may not enter either room to the side. They are complete morons! There are no guards when you enter the rooms, and the guards that you have to pass to get to the Bean Pit aren't doing their job either, for they can only see straight in front of themselves. In addition, the Deku Scrubs must be inheritently nearsighted because they can only see a few yards in front of themselves. I prefer this, it makes it easier to get through. Upon entering the Bean Pit, you find the Bean seller from Ocarina of Time. He's enormously fat. I think that the carpet he sits on is his only means of transportation—I don't think he could walk if his life depended on it. How cold someone be so fat if they lived solely on what they could find underground? I don't know. When you exit and plant the Magic Beans, you can now get to the monkey's cage which you would have seen if you had done what the guards told you which is "go through the door straight ahead. Don't enter any other rooms whatsoever!" The monkey asks you to play your deku pipes (not directly, but I'm telling you that's what he's saying). When you play them, instead of getting kicked out of the palace by the king, the king starts dancing! I don't understand the logic, but oh well! You then exit the Palace and take the "shortcut" to Woodfall.
Now that you're on top of the southern swamp area, you can jump across the tall flowers you saw if you ever looked up during the boat cruise. When you get over to the north side of the swamp, you meet Kepola Gebola, the name for Majora's Mask's counterpart to Ocarina of Time's extremely annoying owl. This time, he actually helps you. Instead of annoying you with long speeches, he gives you a very useful song that actually assists your expeditiousness. After learning the song, continue along the north wall of the swamp until you get to the only place you can go (man, this game is foolproof)—Woodfall!
Woodfall is inhabited by annoying little ladybugesque creatures that are extremely dumb and blind, but are ferocious if they actually see you. These bugs are the parents of the ensuing temple's bugs that assist Odalwa in killing you. It must be a pretty sad life, your only friend being a deku scrub who lives at the peak of your board and not having much to eat. This has led to their insanity and intense wanting to kill you. Cest la vie. Truly, this isn't just a video game, it is a state of being, a state of total obsession. Oops, did I say that?
You play the song which the monkey sang for you, and miraculously an entire temple arises from the swamp—amazing! The temple is easy, so I will only indulge my boredom in a few characters. Firstly, the boes—black boes to be specific—are the souls of small animals. Boes are animals Poes are people. They have inhabited three of the temples of Termina, releasing their unending havoc on those who come within their sight. Secondly, you may notice that small moth-looking creatures surround the braziers in the temple. Since this temple is so lacking in light (as exemplified in the pathway filled with boes), these creatures flock around the light. This shows the ancient phrase "Moth to a flame" in action. They hurt you if you stay in the way when bringing the lit deku stick around, for they will stop at nothing to get to the light. Finally, the temple's boss, Odalwa, is supposed to be the greatest warrior of the Woodfall area. Far from it! The boss's only good attack is the one in which he becomes a spinning blade, much like the spinning scythes in the Shadow Temple in Ocarina of Time. Generally, he's a very interesting character, whom I will not go into indepth on this page.
Upon defeating Odalwa, you find yourself in a room with a grass curtain behind you. Slash it to find the Deku Princess. She will greet you and call he father stupid, which is very accurate. You must put her in a bottle to bring her back to the Palace. I do not see how this is possible, but if she can fit, she's not very dense, since she looks extremely fat! When you release her before her father, she jumps on his stomach in utmost anger and resentment for his imprisoning the monkey. All is well in the great Deku palace, with daughter treating father link a slave.
