In the name of God Amen In the Year of our Lord God 1718 I Charles Snuggs in the County of Henrico Planter being very sick of body but of perfect mind and memory Thanks be given unto God therefore calling into mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men … to die Do Order and Ordain this my last Will and Teftament, That is to say Principally and first of all I give and Recommend my Soul into the hands of God that gave it and for my body I Recommend it to the Earth and I difpose of my Mortal Goods which the Lord please to beftow upon me as followeth Item I give and Bequeath to my Grand Daugter Mary Pirrent a heifer with Calf … Calf .. for Life And Item I give Mary Pirvort one yoo the choice of my flock Item I give and Bequeath to my Son William Bratcher and to my Daugter Juda all my Worldly Pofsefsions that now is called mine to them and their heirs forever … my Son William Bratcher to be my full and hold Execr As witnefs my hand and Seal this twenty 9 day of December 1718.

  Note:  The quality of the microfilm copy of this will was quite poor.  This was exacerbated by a uniquely stylized writing style of the Clerk of the Court who originally transcribed the will.  This is my best interpretation of the writing.

 

Authorization to Perform the Will

To all ....to whom these prefents shall come Greeting.

Whereas Charles Snugs late of the County of Henrico deceased did by his laft will and testament make constitute and ordain William Bradshaw to be his Sole Executor of his said will.  And whereas at a Court held before his Majestys Justices for the County aforesd the Second day of February in the year of our Lord 1718, the said last will was proved and the sd Executor hath performed what the laws of this Colony in that case require
Therefore to the intent the said will may be well and truly performed Too give, grant and commit unto the said William Bradshaw the administration of all the goods, chattles, rights and credits whatsoever belonging to or concerning the said deceased and his testament with full power unto him to dispofe of all and Singular the said goods, chattles, rights and credits according to the intent and meaning of the testament aforesaid hereby requiring him to render a true and full account thereof and teh same to exhibit unto the County Court aforesaid when thereunto lawfully called.  Given under my hand and the Seal of the Colony.
