The Last Time I Committed Suicide
Director: Stephen Kay
Released: June 20, 1997
Runtime: 92 minutes (1:32)

Plot Summary
This film is an adaptation of a letter from Beat icon Neal Cassady (Thomas Jane) to his mentor Jack Kerouac detailing a troubled love-affair in 1947. At age 21 Neal becomes involved with Joan (Claire Forlani), who slits her wrists in his bathroom one rainy night. After spending a few days in the hospital with her, Neal then hangs out in the pool hall with his friend Harry (Keanu Reeves). Then Joan reappears months later (near Christmas time) and tries to draw Neal back into her life.

Claire's Role
The chronically depressed Joan attempts suicide, is sent to the hospital, and is abandoned there by Neal after only a few days. Only after several months does she try to re-enter Neal's life and convince him to settle down with her.
