You got there!...

ChimneyThe trails ends abruptly and you'll be at a flat and wide area with chimney remains at left and a rocky floor. This is Laguna de La Coromoto main camping area. Average time to get here from La Mucuy's portal is 6 hours.

Map of Laguna de La CoromotoUp to 8 tents can fit in this area, and it is sheltered from wind by bushes and big rocks; water is very close (about 30 m - 98 ft) following a small track heading west. Click here or in picture at right to get a map of this area.

CookingThere are also other camping sites. If water level is low, you can cross to the other side of lagoon, and there fit 2 more tents.

Camping site at dawnOn the other hand, if you walk to south edge, there are several open areas by the river. Finally, in the first hill you find walking to Laguna Verde there is a "cave" under a big rock. Some 10 trekkers can get (tightly) into that cave (without tent).

Looking backView of lagoon is gorgeous, and valley where it lies is deep and imposing. Sunlight reaches the valley late in the morning and retires early at afternoons. Height is 3300 m (10830 ft), and average temperature is 14°C (57.2 °F). Bring enough sweaters.

Coromoto LagoonYou'll realize that vegetation here is very different than the one at the previous trail. This vegetation is adapted to harsh conditions of moors: Sudden temperature changes, few oxygen and strong winds.

Regarding lack of oxygen, this causes problems to some people. When you get here, make sure you rest enough for your body to adapt. Calm down and enjoy the beautiful landscape surrounding you.

From Laguna de La Coromoto you can take the trail who ascends to Laguna Verde, but that is another history.
