TITLE OVER:
Over a soundtrack of appropriately bouncy music, we see the following montage.
INT. STEVE'S APARTMENT - DAY
We see the remnants of Steve's previous evening -- a TV issuing only white noise at the moment, a crumpled brown bag, a beer bottle turned on its side on the floor, a small puddle of beer beneath it. Then we see Steve, with an ice pack on his head, talking on the phone and gesticulating wildly.
INT. ADRIENNE'S APARTMENT - DAY
Adrienne is on her phone, listening to Steve and hanging on every word. Her facial expressions convey disbelief, then joy, then smirking satisfaction.
INT. STEVE'S APARTMENT - DAY
Steve is on the phone again, this time while trying to get dressed. From his florid gestures, we gather that he is describing Bill to someone.
INT. POLICE DEPARTMENT - DAY
A POLICE OFFICER is on the phone with Steve. On the computer in front of him, the Officer pulls up a photo of a grimacing Bill, followed by a long list of offenses.
INT. STEVE'S APARTMENT - DAY
Steve is again on the phone, happily telling his story to someone.
INT. TV NEWSROOM - DAY
Listening to Steve on the phone is a reporter, sitting at an expansive TV-news desk, above which is the legend "Eyewitness News."
EXT. SHEARS TESTING CENTER PARKING LOT - DAY
Police cars and TV trucks are swarming in on the Shears office.
INT. SHEARS TESTING CENTER - DAY
At the front of the room, Bill is giving one of his condescending lectures. He hears a noise, turns, and sees two police officers coming to arrest him.
EXT. SHEARS TESTING CENTER PARKING LOT - DAY
A suited-up Steve is speaking expansively at a news conference. He hears a noise and turns. A bellowing Bill is being led out of the building, trailed by eager reporters thrusting their cameras and microphones at him. Bill yanks the police officers his way and sidles over to Steve, obviously yelling epithets at him. Steve looks at Bob for a second. Then Steve rolls his eyes, suavely removes his coat jacket, places it over Bill's head a la the typical arrestee you see on TV, and gestures for the policemen to please move on. As reporters continue trailing Bill, Steve sees a reporter with a camera, and it reminds him of something. Steve pulls a disposable camera from his pocket and takes a "souvenir shot" of Bill being led away. The soundtrack returns.
Steve grins.
