DO NOT USE CEDAR AND/OR PINE! Both Cedar and Pine can be harmful for your guinea pig! It has been proven that cedar and pine cause and / or increase the chances of liver problems in your guinea pig. These liver infections can be fatal. Kiln dried pine is okay, but I have not used it before. This is usually available at most lumber yards and garden supply stores. |
I have tried Aspen before and I do not recommend it. It is very cheap and perfectly healthy for guinea pigs, but it is a burden. When using Aspen, you must change the bedding (or the spot in which your guinea pig pees the most) everyday or every other day. The smell becomes unbearable and you must change it. Also, when picking up my guinea pig, the Aspen bedding becomes stuck to Bunker and falls to the floor. I do not recommend it. |
I now use Cell-Sorb Plus and it seems to be the best bedding for your guinea pig. It is made from recycled newspaper. It is both biodegradable and flushable, making cleaning day exceptionally easy. You can order Cell-Sorb at the following link: Cell-Sorb Plus I clean out Bunker's cage once a week. With Cell-Sorb Plus the smell disappears. |

I recently received an email about "Woody Pet" It says that Woody Pet is wood shavings compressed into pellets. If you add shredded paper on top then the guinea pigs have a place to tunnel through. Woody Pet is very absorbant and will turn into small pieces, kind of like dirt, and makes cleaning the cage exceptionally easy. For a 30lb bag, it is $5 - $10. ------------- These are the views of another person, not of Bunker's Hideout. |
