Helga Glaesener, “Die Safranhaendlerin” (“The saffron trader”). Germany in 1327, Marcella trades with book colours, spices and perfumes. She buys saffron from Tuscany at a sensational price, but on the way the delivery is robbed. To save her business, she embarkes on a dangerous enterprise…. Nice adventure yarn, gives you a good idea how medieval Germany might have looked, towns, castles, knights on horseback, monks and all the trappings. Least, but not last, a little love with a mysterious stranger with a bad reputation… If you are into historic novels, this is an entertaining choice.

Kent Weeks, “The Lost Tomb”, very good! Tells you all there is to know about the Theban Mapping Project and KV5. Does explain a little about ancient Egyptian history, so it’s also worth reading for newcomers to Egyptology. He writes very entertaining, it’s not only a dry discourse of an archaeological dig, it almost reads like a novel. You can feel his excitement about what he discovers and it’s fun to join in.

Kathy Reichs, “Fatal Voyage”, the fourth installment with pathologist Tempe Brennan, piecing together body parts and mysteries. This time it all starts with a plane crash and a large number of casualties. Tempe stumbles quite literally over a foot (yes, just a foot…) that doesn’t seem to match the passenger list….Still very good, but starting to get very familiar and a bit set in its ways. Having said that, the ending was great and a real breath taker. Will I buy the fifth one, “Grave secrets”? Yes, already on my Amazon wishlist…
