| Speech Baby: An attractive speech student you meet at competition. Speechie: Anyone in speech regardless of category or personal appearance. Speech Momma/Daddy: Speech Coach. Bible: The IHSSA rule book. The bible will solve all of your problems. Although it does not answer this question: If a mime crashes into a brick wall, does it make a sound? (And why is solo mime part of large group anyways?) RMWM: Real Mimes Wear Makeup. Protest against the 2001 IHSSA rule change outlawing mime makeup at contest. Banner Baby: Anyone who carries a banner at all state. TV Techie: Someone who does the behind the scenes work for TV News. May also be someone who has done work on a regular school broadcast. Speech Geek: A very mean thing to say to a speech baby who is also a football player. WSF: We Support Fielder. Campaign dedicated to the late CHS speech coach, Yvonne Fielder who brought many traveling All State Trophies home to Carroll High School. She was fired for a crime that she didn't commit. Burger Fling: No speech competition is complete without a celebration dinner at everyone's favorite restarunt: Burger King. Walking Taco: High-class speech competition cuisine consisting of a bag of doretoes, taco meat, and all of your favorite toppings. Speech Diva: A student coach, lead of the one act, play or TV News anchor. Usually comes home after graduation to help the next generation of speech babies to ensure excellence. Spauntanious Ensemble Readers Theater, Musical Improv, Choral TV News, Improvisational Mime: Futuristic speech categories according to one CHS coach. However, they are more commonly seen when someone really messes up the signs at competition. But who couldn't make something out of Musical Improv? |
| Improvisational Mime: Learning your group/solo mime a few short days before contest. Quiet Sign: A sign carried around last spring at Sate Individual Evends held at our school to make people be quiet outside performance areas. It wasn't very effective, but we profited five dollars from one the the signs when we sold it to someone who took it home to their school as a souvenir. ASS: All State Speech. Some ASS is an all state medal. I've got to get myself some ASS this year! IEs: Individual Events. Going solo... Practice to the Wall People: A common sight at competition. The wall is everyone's best friend, coach and judge. These people are always in another world, and what's frighening is no one thinks it's wierd. (Except for the mimes. They hate being stuck between walls or in boxes.) Butt Crack of Dawn: Getting up before sunrise to board a cold school bus to a competition three hours away. BS Run: A quick run through of your piece before performing. May be very silly and make absolutely no sense. Break a Leg: Something you never ever say to a mime as a way of good luck. This caused a mime to go to the emergency room shortly after a performance a couple years ago. The Last Supper: Supper the evening before Individual Events All State. Early Bird Award: Given to the performer who nearly misses the bus the morning of competition. Campsite: A big pile of stuff created by one speech team at competition and serves as a home base for the team. Usually locatd in a gym, open hallway, or cafeteria. |
