This is the happy ending to a bad story ! We had accommodations in Orange county Va. at a B&B and made reservations at a local restaurant, at the strong recommendation of the host. Upon arriving at the "recommended" establishment, which was a far cry from what we had in mind (something like the Tobacco Co.), we made our apologies and went in search of dining more appropriate to our anniversary. And we searched and we searched. There was nothing available for less than $50 per plate anywhere in the entire county ! On the verge of driving the hour and a half back to the Tobacco Co., we decided instead to travel the 30 minutes to Charlottesville. Thank God !!! By some divine miracle (my wife was praying real hard) we got reservations at the Old Mill Room. It was nine o'clock but the staff never let us know that they were staying for us ! The presentations and settings were phenomenal and the fare, enough to make even Epicures salivate. Immediately after that meal, I made reservations to stay at the Inn the following year. The lobster bisque alone is worth stopping for, not to mentions the venison in bourbon sauce or the medallions of beef. On the weekends they set up a breakfast buffet sumptuous enough to draw anyone out of bed early. Three chefs manned stations preparing omelets, eggs Benedict, and waffles made to order and that is just what was to order! Definitely one of the most satisfying and pleasurable elegant dining experiences of my life. Prices range from about $!5 to $30 per person for dinner.
