The Long Drive home
The night is dark
The road ever long
Twisting it’s way through shadowed dreams
The hills hiding the silver stars
As I drive that long way home
Thoughts drifting
Touching the day
Remembering chances lost
Things undone
Watching the red taillights trail across the world
People hurrying home
Driving I wonder
At their lives
Each seeking hope or a lost dream
Music playing softly
Empty thoughts
My only company
On my long drive home
The road stretches on endlessly
As my mind drift
Thinking of that lonely bed
A pillow
Sweet sleep
As I make that final turn
At end of my long drive home
Sitting in my room
Keeping the whole world at bay
The door is closed
And will not be opened
Keep all my dark thoughts close
Not wanting hope
Nor needing love
Keep pushing all away
Reality intruding
Twisting my mind
Keeping my back against the door
Sadly sighing
Softly dieing
Keep fighting against the day
No sunshine found
Nor wanted
Keeping my mind closed to life
Thouching thoughts
Finding reason
Keep searching for the truth
Trying to find the light
In my dark solitude
I sit here contemplating my thoughts
Touching random thoughts of you
Smiling as I remember
You gentle touch
Each sweet embrace
The times we talked all night
Bared our souls
Talked of loves old an new
You held me when I cried
I was there when you thought you would die
Each heartbreak and triumph
We walked together through
Shadowed thoughts and blessing
Touched each others hearts
In so many ways
I would call you more
But we were never meant to be
More than just good friends
Through the years
Old lovers have come and gone
Family moved away
But you my heart’s friend are always here
The strength of my life
Anchor of my soul
Touching those moments
When I need you most
Holding you close in my thoughts
Sending my love down all those long miles
Just wanting to let you know
