UNIT TEN
Unit 10: Badminton
Grades: 1 & 2

LESSON(S):
~Introduction to Badminton
~Basic Rules of Badminton
~Complex movement skills, locomotor movement, heavy and light movements
AIM:
~Learn the basic skills of serving:
*Staggered stance with opposite foot forward
*Shoulder pointing toward service area with weight on back foot
*Make an "O" to hold birdie (using your index finger and thumb)
  *Racquet back, wrist cocked
  *Contact made in front and on side of body below the waist
   *Transfer weight to front foot with racquet following through across bodydefense stategy
~Understand the importance of participation
~Develop fundamental and complex movement skills
~Follow rules while participating in physical activity
~Demonstrate a limited understanding of the game of badminton
~Demonstrate elements of serving & defense
GAMES:
"Four square Badminton", "Hoop Serve", Badminton Game
SKILLS PRACTICED:
Proper serving technique, defensive stance, proper holding of the racket, safety of team players

Students and teachers will be out for Christmas break from
