| The summer after their sophomore year, Sarah and Duncan continued communicating via the phone and letters, though their relationship remained platonic. It didn't take long for Sarah to get over Mahoney, but it would take a solid year for Sarah to feel up to getting into another relationship. After Sarah and Duncan returned to Transy for their junior year, they saw a lot of each other. (Sarah was back in Forrer in a single room, Duncan stayed in Poole with Corey). People started asking them if they were dating. Finally, Sarah and Duncan sat down to figure out if they were ... or wanted to be. There, on a couch in Forrer Hall's front lobby, Sarah told Duncan that she couldn't see herself getting into another serious relationship. She reasoned that because they knew each other so well, they could not just casually date. Their first date would be like another couple's (who didn't know each other at all before they started dating) 20th date. Duncan said to Sarah, "You let me know if you change your mind... but I won't wait forever." Sarah did change her mind... a year later. Duncan waited... but not patiently. > |
