Our Family

This site last updated 07-27-02.

A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, what sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove... but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.

Hi! Welcome to the TLC site, which is either for Tender Loving Care or Tom & Linda Chasteen. We are the Chasteen family; a family of eight, residing in rural Ohio. We'd like to share with you the neat way that God has formed our family - first through Christian marriage on, then the blessings of six beautiful children...two that we gave birth to and four through the miracle of adoption. Each child has a unique and wonderful story that we'll share with you! Some photos from The Chasteen Family Album are included here. A new page has been added with updated photos and tidbits about the children.

Tom and Linda - September 1988

Tom is president of his own company called Powder Systems Consulting. He helps companies build and install powder paint lines. He's a mechanical engineer, and a very hard working man. He is a former Captain of the USMC and he was a jet pilot in Vietnam. He thought he was a confirmed bachelor until I (Linda) came along and snared him! We were married on May 21, 1983, when Tom was 36 years old. That was the beginning of his leaving behind easy things like flying jets for the mind-boggling tasks of husband & daddy!!!

Linda is a stay-at-home mom. Unlike Hillary, I'm happy to be home baking cookies for my kids. I feel very blessed and fulfilled taking care of my family. Children need a lot of care. Also, over the years I've taken college classes, done volunteer work, taught children's church, and recently I signed on as an independent consultant for Longaberger Baskets. This has been a lot of fun! It has kept me from getting restless during the long wait to adopt again. International adoption also requires a lot of care. Since three of our four adoptions have been international, they have kept me busy too. It was wonderful to travel to China in 1997 and Korea was wonderful, too.

Our children are Kayla , Lucas, Cameron, Julia, Lydia, and Maria. The older four are all students at the public school. I homeschooled them for a short time. I'm very glad that we had that special year and a half, but I felt overwhelmed and needed help from the school system. Fortunately, our schools are good, and the children enjoy school and are good students. Kayla is considering post secondary options at a local college for her Junior and Senior years. Kayla, Luke, Cam, and Julia are also all in Tae Kwan Do. Right now Luke has a dark blue belt and the other three have light blue belts. They are doing well. Lydia hangs out with me all day. She is so cute, and full of mischief! She was trying to be excited about the *new baby* coming home, but wasn't sure she was ready to give up her seat as the Chasteen baby.

Because I enjoy writing, I have included some original work here: Family Love and Twice Blessed.

The story, ONE AT A TIME, is not an original one of mine, but I have included it here because it ties in so well with adoption. No, we can't save the whole world, but we can make a huge difference in the lives of a few kids.
