COMPUTER TIPS 20 (January 7, 2004)

By Request: Creating a Web site [A good thing to start the year]

Here are some tips to (hopefully) 'enlighten' you:

First, you should ask yourself "WHY?". Why create a website? Ano ba ang purpose? "Wala lang?" I don't think so...

Second, is it for personal or for business? A website is a very good idea kung magorganize/share ka ng mga family memorabilia (family tree, pictures at kung anu-ano pa). Lagay mo lahat and I'm sure matutuwa sila sa yo. Kung gusto mo naman kumita (some kinda Lucio Tan inside of you), maganda rin maglagay ng business sa web. For example, gusto mong magbenta ng mga gamit mo sa bahay, put the information on your website then publish it sigurado meron sa iyo magreply pero be sure the right price, huwag mo naman sugapain hehehehe. Kung meron kayong family business, you should make a website for it. But for now, siguro we'll focus more on the personal... okies.

Third. So nakapagdecide ka na personal use, saan mo naman ngayon ilalagay yung website and ano ang magiging domain name nya? Is it www.akosimistersuave.com , www.hoyhoyhoyhoyhoy.net or something like that. Kung ganyan gusto mo, kailangan meron kang budget for that kasi may bayad po ang mga "registered sites". Pero kung katulad nyo ako, go for FREE! Also I suggest finding a web service that offers a lot of space for your files kasi remember na maglalagay ka ng mga pictures (and photos consume a big space depending on the quality), offers a tutorial or a lot of HELP, and walang masyadong advertisements.

Fourth, the design. Take for example a project sa school. The design not only involves yung appearance ng finish product but also yung mga materials na ginamit mo, and kung paano mo sila ginamit and yung time and effort na spend mo.

I don't recommend using neons, red and black. Make it as user-friendly as possible, para ding program yan. Kailangan, easy navigation. Organize! So forget about the sound. Pero kung ang site mo naman is about music, or your favorite songs why not? Sabihin mo na lang sa viewers to turn-on their speakers. Ok?

Sixth, content or what to include. Ask the five W's: Who? What? When? Where? and Why?

Seventh, style! For children or for adult?, pang-girls ba or pam-boys? Old school or new school?, etc. Also, remember na sa website, parang nakikipagusap ka sa audience, so be sure to address yung mga words as if na kasama/kaharap mo sila.

Eight, function. Going back sa second tip, kailangan ang purpose ng site should be fulfilled. For example, kung purpose ng site is to inform/give information, go inform! Be straight to the point. Isipin mo din na isa ka sa visitor para maevaluate mo how your website is doing. Kung kainis ba or what... Make things better, not worse. Para madami magvisit ng site mo! hehehehe

Ninth, maintenance. Kailangan consistent. Also, keep in mind that websites need updates para yung interest ng visitor ay ma-maintain.

Tenth, make it as simple as possible. Simple pero may dating!

Ok, that's it. You're on your own! Sana po ay may nakuha kayo kahit konting idea on starting your website.

I'll make this one short and simple again. Hope this will add to your knowledge about CDs. Ok? Here it goes:

How to remove the scratches sa CD:
1. Kung meron kayong Pledge or something like baking soda toothpaste, kakailanganin po natin yun.
2. Apply a little of it sa malinis na cloth, then wipe the scratches sa cd.

Oooppssss... never wipe the cd in a circular pattern. Wipe it from the center to the rim. Why? Kasi ang mga tracks ng cd are written in circular manner, right? Get the point...?

Well, the cd will still play with better quality compared nung may scratches pero hindi highest quality. Repair lang naman eh. Kung heavily scratched ung cd (para bang ginawang panlinis ng sahig), try to buy a new one. hehehehe

Question: Ano bang mas ok na magasgasan, yung bottom or yung top ng cd?

Answer: Yung bottom. Why? Kasi yung top or yung "label side" nandun yung reflective material na kailangan para yung laser magbounce back sa cd player's head. If ever na may scratch yung cd nyo sa top, sorry tapon nyo na yun.

What about CD burners... Di ba kapag bibili/titingin tayo meron tayong makikita na mga nakalagay like this one: 12x8x32.
12x first number, yun ang write speed
8x second, re-write speed
32 third, read speed

Yun lang muna ngayon, sana meron ulit kayong natutunan. Have a nice day!
