COMPUTER TIPS 6 (October 1, 2003)

Winkey+R then type control then any of the following:
access.cpl Accessibility Options
appwiz.cpl Add/Remove Applications
desk.cpl Desktop
hdwiz.cpl Add New Hardware
inetcpl.cpl Internet
intl.cpl Regional Settings
joy.cpl Games Controllers
main.cpl Mouse, Keyboard, etc
mmsys.cpl Sounds and Audio Devices
nusrmgr.cpl User Accounts
powercfg.cpl Power Management Configuration
sysdm.cpl System Properties
timedate.cpl Time/Date

Bonus Tip

Restart Windows faster than the Usual
Sometimes or most of the times, mahilig tayong mag-install ng kung anu-ano sa ating PC or (Personal Confuser) and most of the times it requires us to Restart Windows... At siempre, nakaka-inip di ba? Kasi po kapag nag-Restart tayo, both hardware and software pine-prepare ng Windows (just like warm-booting) eh paano kung gusto natin software lang? Pwede kaya? Siempre pwede!

Windows 98: Go to Start > Shut Down > Restart and hold the Shift key when you click Ok
Windows 2000/XP: Start > Turn Off Computer... > hold the Shift key before clicking Restart

This will just reload Windows (and the changes) without the whole long startup. Mas mabilis compared sa usual na cold boot. Ayaw nyong maniwala? Try nyo!

COMPUTER TIPS 7 (October 15, 2003)

Today, I would like to share something na natutunan ko during my on-the-job training sa IMI (Integrated Microelectronics Inc.) wherein programmer ako ng pagkahirap-hirap na gawain.

Anyways, this tip was shared to me by my friend na trainee din that time sa IMI. It's about detecting file which are infected by a simple virus called redloaf. Some of us use McAfee, Norton or Pccillin (tama ba spelling? McAfee kasi gamit ko...) to scan for viruses. Alam naman natin na a virus is a computer program that: (1) copies itself, (2) has malicious intention, (3) most of the times attaches itself to another file (Trojan Horse for example), and (4) is well-planned and programmed (meaning hindi accidentally na nagawa). Yan, basic recap lang about what a virus is...

Eto na yung actual tip, simpleng-simple lang ito pero may dating... may impact!
1. Go to Start > Search > Find Files or Folders...
2. Type in folder.htt then OK/Find
3. Kapag maraming lumabas na results (usually Folder.htt) isa lang ang ibig sabihin nyan, your computer is infected by redloaf. By the way, folder.htt is a file used to web view a folder sa Windows Explorer. Notice na if you have this kind of file tapos marami halos lahat ng folder meron, ang bagal ng pc. All you have to do is,
4. Delete lahat ng folder.htt except the original which is in the folder of C:\Windows

To experiment kung talagang infected ang folder.htt mo, try to open those folder na may folder.htt and you will see na nagrereproduce yung file sa iba't ibang folders (parang Gremlins!). Mararamdaman mo na lang na unti-unting nabagal ang Personal Confuser mo. Hirap magexplain eh!

Ok! So that's it sabi ko naman sa inyo simple lang pero may impact. Next week, how to make your mouse mightier naman...
