COMPUTER TIPS 4 (September 17, 2003)

Instead of using the same old style of opening a window/folder/file here are some alternatives for you to try:

Alternatives
Open a window/folder/file by:
- Double-clicking the icon
- Right-clicking the icon then Open
- pressing tab until you reach the icon then press Enter
- typing the correct path of the filename/folder in the Run command (WinKey+R)
example: (To open notepad in Run) C:\WINNT\Notepad.exe
Note that if the file exists or is correct in spelling, Windows automatically completes the path as you type
- typing the correct path of the filename/folder in the Command Prompt (WinKey+R then type cmd) (same as Run command)
- typing the correct path of the filename/folder in the Address bar of the Windows Explorer or IE (same as Run command)

Quite simple? How about this:

Bonus Tip

Getting rid of the Windows Bootscreen
This works for Win98 and earlier versions. However, in Windows XP there is a file wherein you can overwrite to change your bootscreen. (Next time na lang yun! Dito muna tayo sa makaluma.)
1. Open mspaint it is under start-programs-accessories once there open the file C:\windows\logow.sys. That should be your shut down screen we are using this since we know it is the right size and resolution for it.
2. Now go crazy with it except you can't change the size or add moving graphics you can with special programs well don't do it without a program.
3. When your done save it as C:\logo.sys and you have a new boot screen

If you want a different shutdown screen save it as c:\windows\logow.sys.

Ok. Natapos na naman po ang ating lesson of the day, sana'y meron kayong natutunan, hirap magTaglish kaya English na lang lahat muna (yabang eh 'no). Bow!

COMPUTER TIPS 5 (September 26, 2003)

Sorry kung ngayon lang ako nakapagemail kasi alam nyo naman busy tayo lahat. Para nga pala sa mga nakatapos na magdefend, Congratulations! Para sa mga hindi pa, tulad namin eh konting tiis na lang.

Anyways, here's another tip which may be very useful para sa inyo kung mahilig kayong mag-open ng maraming applications and use it at the same time. Kasi di ba it's very time consuming kung click kayo ng click ng icons sa Desktop or sa Programs Menu? Why don't we make an icon that will open multiple applications / windows...? Pwede? Pwede!!!
Note: I think it only works with Windows XP... Sorry sa mga low tech!

Ok here it goes:
1. Right-click on an empty space on your desktop. From the menu that pops up, select New then click Text Document. This creates a new icon on the desktop.
2. Rename nyo yung icon nang kahit anong gusto nyong name and add .bat to the end. If you get an error message, click Yes.
3. Then right-click the icon, click Edit.
4. type start <-NameOfShortcut-> Note: Kailangan yung Shortcut na ilalagay nyo does not contain any spaces; kung may space, rename nyo na lang. Then, the shortcut must be on the desktop of only the current user, not all users. To make sure that it is, right-click the shortcut, drag it to any place on the screen, and click Copy Here in the menu that is displayed.
5. Now, open the .bat file in Notepadagain and on the second line type start ShortcutName where ShortcutName is the name of your shortcut. For this example, it's Messenger.
6. Just repeat steps 4 and 5 kung gusto nyo mas marami ma-open na application.

Here's my example: sa Notepad (with extension of .bat):
start http://www.nba.com
start MyDocuments
start mIRC
start KazaaLite++

After this, pwede nyo ng delete yung ibang shortcuts para isang icon na lang ang gagamitin nyo. Malinaw po ba? Then kung gusto nyo baguhin yung icon madali lang, alam nyo naman siguro yun. Ayos ba?

Bonus Tip

Change your Windows XP bootscreen
1. Before anything else, back-up nyo muna yung ntoskrnl.exe which is found sa C:\WINNT\system32
2. Download nyo yung .zip (New Bootscreen) sa computer, then extract the ntoskrnl.exe to a directory other than sa C:\WINNT\system32
3. Reboot your computer into Safe Mode by pressing F8 before the boot screen appears
4. Now, Overwrite the file C:\WINNT\system32\ntoskrnl.exe with the extracted exe (Copy the new exe file then paste, Overwrite?, click YES)
5. Reboot

Ok ba? Note: Be sure na yung downloaded file nyo from the internet is not corrupted or else hindi nyo na ulit makikita ang inyong desktop... hehehe meaning... hindi na sya magboo-boot!

Masaya magpalit ng bootscreen, nakaka-addict! Download kayo ng bootscreen dito: http://www.themexp.org. Enjoy!
