1999 BRFL Week 7 Results

Wallace, BUD Tighten East
Barry Takes Division Lead

It was a big showdown between the two top teams in the East and the two top teams in the Central. Both games lived up to their shootout billing: Wallace leads JK 53-45 and Deitrich over Mosakowski-Hale 43-39. The results of those games combined with wins by overlooked Barry and Peil mean that a half game separates all four teams. Barry at 4-2-1 is the division leader. He defeated CZ 33-16. Peil is right in the mix with a 35-26 win over Stroupe.

Meanwhile in the Mild, Mild West, division leader Jackson might be the only winner this week, but he trails Outlaw 28-24 going into Monday night. Jackson has Pittsburgh QB and Outlaw has kicker Kris Brown.

And finally, congratulations to Talbot. It took seven weeks, but he has won his first game. He leads Best 41-19. He did it with two starters on a bye and one starter and a key reserve injured. The Giants QBs and Terry Allen did it for him.

AB in first place? It must be one of those end of the millennium things. However, he has Troy Aikman to thank. Starting Dallas QBs for the first time this season, he scored 18 points. Dallas QBs scoring 18 is in itself somewhat unbelievable.

Dallas scoring 18 and SF QBs scoring 0? Steve Young is still holding a clipboard, and maybe for quite a while, if not the entire season. On the bright side for CZ, Marshall Faulk scored 9 points for the second straight week.

Peil 35 Stroupe 26

DP box score STP box score
Rejuvenated Peil is looking good now that Jeff George has taken over at QB in Minnesota. He threw three TDs. In the last four weeks, Peil is 3-0-1, and is only a 1/2 game behind Barry for the division lead and tied record-wise 3-2-2 with 4-3 JK and Moha.

Stroupe has already started players in street clothes this year, but this week he might have started one in his pajamas. Adrian Murrell was on a bye this week. Break out the champagne... Ricky Williams scored a bonus point! His first non-zero in the score sheet this year. Perhaps it will trigger an incentive in his contract that will pay off Stroupe's BRFL bill this year.

Deitrich 43 Moskowski-Hale 39

BUD box score MOS box score
This battle of high powered second place teams lived up to its billing. They of course featured the top fantasy QBs of 1999, St Louis and Washington. Now let's examine that statement with what we knew back on August 29th... The top Fantasy QBs are St Louis and Washington? Amazing. However, on the field this week, it was St Louis that edged Washington 3 TDs to 2. However, Deitrich prevailed thanks to getting more TDs from the rest of his lineup including Antonio Freeman, Emmitt Smith and Albert Connell, where the Moha only got a TD from Issac Bruce.

Talbot 47 Best 19

BST box score TAL box score

Every dog has his day. This was Talbot's...even with his Arizona QBs off, Robert Smith and Bert Emmanuel injured. The New York Giants QBs accounted for three scores, and a sensation of Deja View for Best. In 1995, he forced the bye-strapped Outlaw to start the NY Giants and they also had a three score day. Terry Allen scored twice, and by god, Richard Huntley scored. Talk about reaching deep. Best feels he is owed a invitation to CZ and Talbot's Thanksgiving dinner as he has given each of those teams their only win in 99.

For Best the day was a study in frustration. Perhaps it began when he found a "Talbot's" catalog in the stack of mail on the kitchen counter. It definitely reached a peak when Carolina penetrated inside Detroit's three yard line five times, and each time attempted an unsuccessful Beurelein/Walls 12 point hook up.

Wallace 53 Jones-Klingman 45

WAL box score JK box score
Wallace continued his undefeated start and JK lost first place in the East in this shootout. Jones-Klingman started the fireworks early when Special Reserve Tony Gonzalesscored 12 points in the Thursday night KC/BAL game. Wallace countered with a score from Errict Rhett. On Sunday, it was a return to form for Favre with three touchdowns. Given those numbers, it is hard to believe that JK lost this game, but Wallace plugged way. Detroit QBs scored 12, Marvin Harrison 9, Raghib Ismail 6, Dorsey Levens 7 and Olindo Mare scored 12, his fourth consecutive double digit week.

Jackson 37 Outlaw 36

CJ box score OUT box score
Terrance Mathis waited until late in the game to save Jackson. He caught a TD pass with under 7 minutes left and then a couple minutes later, caught a 40 yard pass. The yardage was enough to generate and extra bonus point and give Jackson the edge in a 37-36 thriller. Outlaw led going in 28-23, and after Kordell Stewart threw for a score and Kris Brown's extra point, the game was tied at 29. Brown's two field goals, including a 51 yarder, gave Outlaw a 36-29 lead, but Mathis' late heroics rallied Jackson.

Outlaw tried to win this game without a QB as his New England combo failed to score. Edggerin James scored twice and recorded two more when he reached deep into his roster for the overlooked talents of Derrick Mayes.

Week 7 Preview

Some heavy weight matchups in Week 7. First Place Wallace vs First Place JK. However, the preception is that the teams lurking behind those two, MOS and Bud are actually the division powers. Coicidentally, those two teams also meet.

Mosakowski-Hale vs Deitrich

On paper, this looks like the shoot out of the century...High scoring BUD with his Washington QBs playing a rematch with Dallas... these teams combined for 76 points in week 1. The Mo-ha counter with St Louis at home against Cleveland. In a season where most BRFL teams can't score their way out of a paper bag, these guys have an embarrassment of riches.

The injury bug continues to nip a little at the Mo-ha. Eric Moulds is out four weeks with a hamstring injury, which means there's an opportunity to work in newly acquired Terrance Wilkins in to the lineup.

This one could be 55-54, Bud.

Jones-Klingman vs Wallace

Brett Favre stunk it up last week. JK crashed and burned as a result. Green Bay remains on the road, in San Diego, they of the tough D. That also bode ill for Wallace's Dorsey Levens. The theory here is Favre won't stink it up two straight weeks. Plus there's Ryan Longwell in case this is a field goal battle. Wallace will counter with Detroit QBs against weak D'ed Carolina. However, Eddie George is on a bye. Wallace has found a way to win every week. The thought here is that JK has a lot invested in a potential low scoring game, GB vs SD. The Bus rumbles in on Monday and Wallace pulls out another.

Peil vs Stroupe

Stroupe used to be the king of ties after scoring three in his first four BRFL games. He now has 7 lifetime. Peil came into the league a year later and he now has 9 lifetimes times. Two of those ties have come this year, as Peil threatens Stroupe's season tie record.

This came shouldn't be a tie. Peils Min QBs are expected to have a big week. Jeff George is at the helm, Robert Smith is injured and they face San Francisco, a team that has given up 9 TD in the last two games. Peil should win big as Stroupe is circling the drain.

Barry vs Czupryna

CZ continues to pick up the flavors of the week...This week was Patrick Jeffers, the Carolina WR that scored twice last week. Will Jeffers be consistent, or will he be another Lawerence Phillips, Germane Crowell or Az Hakim. One week wonders who never scored for CZ.

In week 1, AB's back up QBs, Dallas, scored 32 points vs Washington. AB, of course, went with Jacksonville, his starter. Jacksonville is off. Dallas looks a lot weaker this week than in week 1. CZ has come close to winning the last couple weeks. The guess here is that he upsets Barry.

Outlaw vs Jackson

Jackson scored 68 points last week. However 25 of that was attributable to special reserve QB Carolina. This week expect Jackson's point to total to drop like IBM stock after a poor third quarter. Terrell Owens is hobbled and Buffalo QBs face three straight road games without Eric Moulds.

Outlaw has scored three straight weeks in the 20s. His time for a bust out. New England should shake their funk with a home game against Denver, and Edggerin James should have a huge game against the Bengals. Outlaw should win big.

Talbot vs Best

At this point in the season, no one wants to play Talbot...No one wants to be the first to lose to him...He has to win sometime. However, is is probably not the week. Arizona is on a bye. This leaves the Giants as his starter. Robert Smith is out with his annual injury.

Looks like a good week for a bounce back for Best after two straight losses. New acquired QBs, Carolina, are on board to throw to Wesley Walls, who has scored every week. Best should keep Talbot winless.
