Welcome to my Cockatiel page!!
I didn’t like cockatiels for a long time. I thought that they were boring. But, a couple of
months ago my husband talked me into buying, Trenna, our hand fed cockatiel. Now I
can’t imagine living without her in the house. She is a cinnamon cockatiel and she is
really sweet. She likes to perch on the cabinets while I do the dishes. Whenever we let
her out of the cage she wanders all around and checks on the other birds. Since she is a
girl the chances of her taking aren’t real good, but oh well!!!
The Basics of Cockatiels
First of all cockatiels are VERY social. If you get one while they are young they
will bond to you if you spend quite a bit of time with them. This can be great if you love
to have them around. But, beware, they will want to be with you a lot, just like a little
kid. And they pout if they don’t get there way! If they bond with another bird then they
will still be your friend, just not as dependent on you. They live for about twelve years,
so they are a major time investment. They like to chew on things, like a puppy except
they can get anywhere in the house. This means that you need to look out for dangers for
them. Also, they are curious and adventure seeking, so give them fun stuff to play with!!
Don’t just buy a cockatiel, stick it in a cage and forget about it!! They won’t let you
anyways!! I haven’t bred any yet, so I won’t have a section on breeding until later. So,
that’s it for now.
