Welcome to my Society Finch page!!

Basics

Society finches, also known as Bengalese Finches, are great. They are really nice and can be kept with many other finches. They are also really good foster parents when other finches don’t take care of their babies. They have good variations in their chocolate, fawn, and white colorings. I really like the little beeps that they make. They are calm and soothing to listen to. They are active which makes them fun to watch as well. I always crack up when I watch my finches take a bath. They blow water every where!! The only real problem with them is that there is no real way of knowing the girls from the boys. One last thing about these birds, please don't have just one. They are social creatures and NOT meant to be left alone.

Breeding

Society finches are relatively easy to breed, once you have a pair. You need to give them a nest of some sort, you can buy one at a feed store or make your own. The green strawberry baskets will work! If you are breeding in a cage with more then one pair then you need to provide extra nests. For every two pairs of birds you need to put up at least three nests. Once the birds make a nest and lay their eggs they will need to incubate for about twelve days. Then the babies will start to hatch. You need to provide the parents with proper food for the babies. Most bird books will give you a variety of recipes to use. The babies will be ready to leave the nest in another twenty-one days. I think that it is best to leave the nest alone as much as possible after the babies hatch.
