Mother of Isabelle
Isabelle has Spina Bifida T 10 Level. Isabelle uses a RGO and crutches and walker. Isabelle is very independent and verbal. She loves to socialize and travels really well. She is very pleasant and gives us lots of joy and everyone she meets. She enjoys school, painting playing on the computer and swimming, she is now on level 3 in her swimming lessons and enjoys helping with her little brother Alx. Isabelle will be getting a new bike this summer and is looking forward to independence. We enjoy meeting all the parents and kids with Sb on our hospital apts. it makes our trips more bearable.

Anna has L3-4 myelomeningocele sb, hydrocephalus w/vp shunt, ACM II decompression, neurogenic bladder (she gets cathed 4x a day), seizures (she developed these at age 1), a syrinx & a nonverbal learning disorder.
We didn't know before Anna was born that she would have any problems, as I had no ultrasound until the day she was born. She was breech so that's when I had the ultrasound done.
Anna walks with HKAFOs & a reverse walker or uses AFOs & a wheelchair for long trips. She is mainstreamed in a regular public school. She takes Carbatrol for her seizures & Bactrim to keep away from infections.
Anna was born in Firelands Community Hospital in Sandusky, Ohio, & transported immediately to Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital, a part of the University Hospitals of Cleveland. She had her spine closed & shunt placed there. She has also had her chiari decompression there, PE tubes placed in both ears there, a syringostemy on the base of her spine there & an open reduction of her right hip done there as she was born with a dislocated hip.
We now go to Shriners Hospital & Doernbecher Hospital in Portland, Oregon, for all her care (neurosurgeon, urologist, orthopedics, pediatrician, dietician, physical therapist).
