Our daughterNelli died three years ago, at the age of six.   Nelli had a neurogenic bladder, and had a bladder augmentation at age four.   Over the next two years the end of her shunt became entangled in scar tissue around her bowel and the end of the shunt penetrated into her colon.   This allowed bacteria direct access to her brain.   The chronic antibiotics she was on for urinary tract prophyllaxis masked the severity of her infection until it was too late.   It's a good idea, anytime someone has shunt series x-rays to check and see where the end of the shunt is.
