[0.0] What does this FAQ cover?

This document attempts to answer Frequently Asked Questions related to the alt.binaries.cd.image.* Usenet newsgroups. A link to this document is periodically posted to the newsgroup to help educate new members on the desired operation of the groups.
There are several points this FAQ tries to cover. The 7 MOST basic points are:

  1. There is a discussion group -> alt.binaries.cd.image.tools.d
Alt.binaries.cd.image is 99% filtered and it is for FULL IMAGES ONLY.
No REQ's, parts/fills, RIPs, or discussion.
  2. There are ONLY two apps used here for image creation- CDRWIN and EZ CD Pro 95 2.11.
  3. We DO NOT do requests. Think about it- a full CD-image is, typically, around 600 MB. That's just not a reasonable request.
  4. Parts and parts requests go in alt.binaries.cd.image.parts, if your server(s) doesn't carry that group, you may make your requests in alt.binaries.cd.image.tools.d for parts to be posted in alt.binaries.misc.
  5. A full repost is typically put up in seven days. No parts should be requested (or posted!) until after the full repost!  Why should parts be posted 3-4-5 times? Just be patient and considerate, and you'll get your perfect CD.
  6. If it has been posted here before it is highly unlikely that you will see that version posted here again. The size of these things just precludes that sort of redundancy. When a new version is released, that is likely to be posted.
  7. Please read the rest of the FAQ for more useful information.

The information here has come from some of the most experienced people in ABCDI and the alt.binaries area in general. While not a code of law, it is highly recommended that you take the advice and suggestions here to heart. The purpose of this FAQ is to make the group run smoothly and efficiently, in direct contrast to ABWI.

[0.1] What is this group for?

First and foremost, this group was created by people with patience for people with patience. So, if you're not a patient person, LEAVE NOW.

This group was created for people who have CD-Recorders, and want to burn an entire CD instead of using a rip that is not always cracked correctly, and/or is still missing the movies, sound, examples, tutorials, or other things that warez distributors leave out to save room.

Of course, once you've tried the CD and have decided you will continue to use the game/program, you should go out and purchase it, thus supporting the software industry and encouraging more new products. You'll also get manuals, support, etc. The CD images provided in this group provide you with the ability to really test the program and not have to make a gamble based solely on packaging or reviews.

[0.2] What are the basic tenets of this group?

  • You understand the basics of the warez groups (read the Warez FAQ at http://www.warezfaq.com/).
  • You have read this FAQ and have asked for clarification if you have questions.
  • Nobody owes you anything. Everything you manage to acquire is gravy.
  • It is ALL RIGHT to lurk and leech!
  • Original posts and reposts belong in ABCDI, parts reposts belong in parts.
  • This is a group containing a lot of very experienced people. Learn what you're doing before posting here - this FAQ is intended to help you in this (let us know if it fails).
