Futurama

Futurama is a totally funny look at the world of tomorrow. While a few intellectual purists noted at the inception of the show, people in the year 3000 probably wouldn't speak a language we understand. But that misses the important point: 3000 years of evolution won't make people any less self-absorbed or stupid.

Fry manages to fit in perfectly as a kind of dumb, unmotivated kid who'd rather lie around eating Bachelor Chow and watching "All My Circuits" than doing actual work. Leela's a tough taskmaster, but she's afully susceptible to emotional stimulus. Professor Farnsworth 's just mean and brilliant in a really fun for-the love-of-science kinda way. I love Zapp Brannigan for just being so wonderfully in love with himself and deluded about his place in the world. Amy is unabashedly snotty, Dr. Zoidberg is both incompetent and paranoid, and Hermes just has to limbo.

And it's the little things like the doop and slurm and Mom that make it even more fun to watch.

The truest truism ever from the episode When Aliens Attack:

"But that's _not_ why people watch TV! Clever things make people feel stupid and unexpected things make them feel scared!"
