[ Security ] [ Fees ] [ Judging & Prizes ] [ Registration ]The Gathering 2000 offers a unique opportunity for artists of all calibers. We provide a forum into which you, the fan, can submit art work for display and sale. Our annual Art Show is held during the course of the convention and is open to all convention participants. This is a great way to share the Gargoyles experience with everyone. General Information
Art Show set-up takes place on the first day of the convention, Friday August 4, 2000. A room has been set aside for that purpose. The Gathering will provide boards approximately 4'x4' on which your art can be displayed. Please note the size of the boards when requesting space, to make sure you reserve enough panels for all the art you plan to bring. Art Show Setup & Displays
The display panels are made of peg board and utilize a special hanging system that eliminates the use of thumbtacks or nails, thus securing the art work from damage. If you attended G99 in Dallas, you will already be familiar with this display panel system, but if you did not, it will be explained in greater detail at the convention.
An area will also be provided in the Art Room for three-dimensional works. If another display device is needed, please bring that it our attention when registering. Once set-up is complete, the Art Room will be open for visitation by all convention members.
There is no requirement that an artist sell his or her work, but if the artist does wish to offer artwork for sale, we do provide a means. There are two ways you can sell your work at the Gathering 2000 Art Show. Art Sales
The first option is the traditional method. You can give the item a set sale price, for example, $20.00. In this case the item would be sold to the first buyer willing to pay your price.
The second option is a three-bid auction system. If you wish to participate in the auction system, your art will be given a bid sheet, which will be placed next to your art work. This works similar to a silent auction. The interested buyers would write their name, badge number, and bid on the auction sheet. Once you have three bids on your sheet, your item will proceed to a live auction.
The live auction will take place at the same time as the merchandise and charity auctions. Once there, it will be presented to the audience for bidding, with bidding starting at the price of the highest bid on the silent auction sheet. Once bought, all items will remain in the art room until paid for at the end of the convention.
Please see the section on Art Show Fees for additional information.
There is no restriction to what type of art may be entered. We welcome everything from computer generated art work to sculpture and jewelry. We will try to accommodate all your display needs, but we do ask that all art relate to Gargoyles. We also have no requirements on how you display your work, but we suggest that you mat and/or frame your work to make it more presentable. You may use your best judgment. We understand that it is sometimes difficult to transport framed pieces on planes and other modes of transportation. Presentation of Artwork
We have taken some security measures to ensure the safety of your work. The art room will be equipped with a security table at the entrance to the room. At this table all guests will be asked to check all bags. Also, no cameras or visual recording devices will be allowed in the room without the express written permission of the Gathering 2000, to protect the creative copyright of the artist. Only convention attendees and special guests will be allowed in the room during display times. At all other Art Show Security
times, the room will be locked and entrance restricted to convention staff.Disclaimer: Although we will do our best to keep the Art Room secure, The Gathering and its staff will not be responsible for any items lost, broken, stolen, or damaged during the course of the Art Show.
The Art Show has no entry fee, but there is a $5 per space charge to rent the display boards. Each display board is 4'x4' and there is a place on the Registration Form form to reserve and pay for them. Art Show Fees
Also, the Gathering will take a 10% commission fee on all art work sold during the course of the show. The Gathering will keep track of all buyers, will collect the money, and give the artist their money at the end of the convention. If the artist doesn't wish to sell their work, they are still subject to the display board rental fee, but are immune to the 10% commission.
The Gathering art show is also a judged competition. First, second, and third place awards will be given in these areas: Art Show Judging & Prizes
In addition, there will also be an award for Best in Show. The winner will receive a special prize.
