Baronh, the language of Abh, is not just an eye-pleasing factor for screenplay.
Mr. Morioka, writer of the original novel, came up with a new language for the Abh.
Not just several words or sentences, but a whole new language! Because the origin
of the Abh can be traced back to Japan, Baronh is also loosely connected to
Japanese. However, sentence structure and pronunciation principles are far cry from
Japanese. Their connections can only be found by in depth research which requires
knowledge in Japanese and even a little bit of linguistic fundamentals.
In Japan, there are several sites that present Baronh-Japanese dictionary and
introduce Baronh grammar. Among them, Dadh Baronr
(the World of Baronh) has been a tremendous help building this site. There are also
sites that exchange information about spoken Baronh. Ath (the Letter of Baronh)
used in this site is created from a TrueType fonts set created by a fan.
I hope, by reading this corner, those who experienced only the anime or translated
novel (if there was English version at all) realize that an important part of the
whole story has been far less emphasized than it should have. As you can guess,
talking about a new language can't be helped from being boring. If you are
reluctant to read too bookish articles, I recommend starting with Nonchan's Language page. Browsing through all of the Nonchan's
pages is also a good idea if you want more basic background about the story.
Baronh in anime (Monshou, Senki 1) corners might also
be good choices, since familiar Baronh words actually appear in anime are
explained.
Since I am not an Abh myself either (^^), I can't say I have mastered Baronh.
Therefore, this corner has to in no doubt undergo continuing modification. Please
leave a note on Board or send me an e-mail if you have any suggestion or difficulty
in understanding.
