In 1979 three young, enthusiastic teachers at Gananoque Secondary School - Jim McParland, a chemistry teacher, Paul Harding, a music teacher, and Brian Miller, a technical studies teacher - decided to join together and produce a musical, involving students from all grade levels, backgrounds and abilities. No one knew then what they were getting themselves into. Since then, these three incredibly talented and dedicated teachers have devoted a large portion of every school year - for the last *twenty* years - to a musical production, involving at least 100 members of the school and community. I was told recently that this 20-year record is unequaled in the province of Ontario. Nowhere else in this province have the same three teachers devoted 20 years to bringing quality theatrical productions to enrich the life and education of their students.
I went home this year for the production of G.S.S.’ 22nd musical (The Wizard of Oz) and was asked by several members of the audience if I missed being a part of it. I was able to answer without hesitation that the musical is the one part of high school I wish I could relive over and over.
